Oct 22, 2014Abstract_Chaos posted a message on Metallica at Blizzcon 2014, Enchanting Hotfix Live on Consoles, Fanart Concept by NouraGK, High Level HC 3 Player GRI'm surprised nobody has commented yet about how the hotfix has been affecting many people across all consoles. Basically most items show up backwards, stats are completely unexplainable (-10% damage to all skills? stats not showing correctly on many items etc) and many other things are bugged besides the graphics. Legendary gems are all Level 0 and show up in the items tab now instead of the gems tab. It's kind of an interesting experience to go out there and see just how screwed up the entire game is now...but hopefully this is how the "software" is interpreting the rest of the code and not something like a corrupted save. The game is completely unplayable in this state however. I do know that the bug report (console) section of the forums has a lot of posts going off about it nowPosted in: News
but I haven't seen acknowledgement from Blizz just yet.EDIT: blue tracker has an update...
[UPDATE] – We are currently investigating issues affecting Ultimate Evil Edition games in which this hotfix was applied. One of these of these issues includes, but is not limited to, a reported loss of Legendary Gem progress.
Until further notice, this particular hotfix has been reverted across all the console platforms. To help ensure the hotfix has been removed and will not impact your gameplay, power cycle your console platform (turn it off and then back on) before starting a game. Additionally, please note that joining an online game which was created with the hotfix active may cause players within the party to be affected by the reported issues. As a result, we advise using caution when playing online for the next 24 – 48 hours.
We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and will be sure to provide updates as they become available. Thank you for your patience! -
Mar 10, 2014Abstract_Chaos posted a message on Josh Mosqueira Promises Players Will Be "Happy" Soon, Class Builds Collection - Part 4, Curse Weekly RoundupDeadlinberg...if you "never said anything against PvE" then why are you saying it's pointless? Also, apparently it's for pussies? The reason there are so many difficulties available is to challenge the ever-changing and growing player. Some people don't see gearing up as a sole purpose of conquering the "same AI" a little faster next time with "no further purpose". Achieving an ideal complete gear set is among one of the ways to distinguish yourself as a veteran player.Posted in: News
PvP was always an interest in the development on Diablo 3 whether anyone likes it or not. I personally wouldn't mind there being an option for it, as there already is with brawling. From what I saw in the development days of this game, I think it could definitely work. Sure, there is a lot of math and tuning involved, which is why a lot of people speculate it could still be far off from RoS launch. However, you never know just how hard they've been working...it could be it.
As for my idea of what the announcement could be...well...I don't have a damn clue. I'll just wait and let it surprise me -

I'm especially excited to try the Wizard and Monk builds. I am usually playing barb 90% of the time and looking forward to experiencing the Crusader. That monk build looks like something I really wanted to make work while leveling, but wouldn't be viable endgame (pre-2.01). -

I know this must be asked on the battle net forums a lot but what is the news for a patch update on consoles? I suppose worst case scenario, we can expect the PS4 version will be similarly patched?
Anyway this is an amazing update. I hear there are a lot of bugs but not anything to freak out about, considering the size of the update. And hey, it's free content. Good stuff -

I'm glad you said this, as it had crossed my mind as well. I wasn't sure if I was over-analyzing it xD It would be nice to see a central location for displaying the Paragon level on the character selection screen.Quote from z3rodown
I feel they missed an opportunity to display the paragon levels better. No need for the character screen to show the same level for each character right?
I'm very excited for Paragon 2.0; a great example of a way to add a little diversity and more "leveling" to what D3 already is.
Stebo88 I think that's an excellent question but I'm not sure myself where development stands with the ladder system. To my knowledge I figured we weren't going to see it for a little while after RoS launch. But I do believe it will be a fresh start (your question certainly does make sense, btw...) so my guess is that once you reach level cap, you will begin paragon again. So yeah, that pretty much means it won't carry over from non-ladder characters because it's always been separate.
And I totally would have multi-quoted all this but admittedly I don't know how to properly -_-' -

Interesting distinctions on MOBA's...I'd ultimately have to agree with overneathe and orcjmr, in the way that it will always be a "DotA" to me (just like a square looks like a square) and that "MOBA" is quite broad in terms of what designates a game to be considered a mobile online battle arena. By definition it doesn't seem like it is enough on its own to be a "genre".
Anyway, Nintendrag0n that's a great idea about adding some D2 exclusive heroes and I'm sure it might already be a popular idea within development. They have perfect skills for such a game too.
I'd also like to say that I'm hoping for this to actually be a little more casual, or at least offer a match option that doesn't take 30-45 minutes + to finish. I've played DotA2 the most out of its predecessor and LoL, though I've seriously not played anywhere near the average player. That being said, that may be why I am favoring a more casual approach but again it is a little stressful (to me) to have to dedicate 30-45 minutes of constant attention to a competitive PvP arena-type match or whatever you'd like to call it. -

Yes because then people feel like they can "let their friends finish the last 15 mins of the run while they warm their dinner" or just having people wait in town to reap the rewards. Your friends may not be as inclined to do this, but for those players who like to jump in a lot of public games, they are affected more.

"Just to clarify, I was quoting what was requested in the original post, not listing all of those as upcoming changes. The only change I mentioned at the time is that players not in the area when a bounty is completed won't be rewarded. Want to be clear on that for those who only read Blue Trackers and not full threads. ;)"Quote from Mike JezZ
"6. Bounties
- progressive bounty rewards for subsequent bounties (staying in the game)
- require monster kills to complete all bounties
- require direct player participation in completing a bounty just like it was required to get NV stacks
- make rift key tiers related to the difficulty they were farmed in
- allow rift keys to be combineable into a higher tier key" Can anyone tell me what they mean with "direct player participation in completing a bounty" ? Just that you have to have been active during the event?
So basically it appears that you must be present during the completion of the bounty, at least, and I'd imagine you must have been active a little time before the completion. -

If anyone here has ever made a game before, you immediately know the difficulty of balancing abundant innovation. The more complex/rich in dynamic features your game is, the more likely it is that it will be hard to tune to that "feels right" setting.
That being said, Blizzard is essentially the best benefactor you could ask for on a game like Diablo 3. We should be able to make a drop system work. I'm not sure if anyone has ever played the game Phantasy Star Online (my favorite item hunting game next to D2, it's a must play for ppl who enjoy Diablo) but that's the closest game I've played where the item hunting is extremely difficult, though it feels perfect. The vast quantity of items in PSO is both diverse and practical. There definitely are those few items everyone seeks out that are "the best" but there are plenty of viable choices that with the right character, are just as lethal. Also, there were a lot of exclusive items dependent on race/gender.
I believe Diablo 3 is trying to achieve certain comparable values in their item model. However, do realize how many people will be playing this game (how many will be playing ~6-10 hours at any given time, among more extremists) versus the quantity of people currently participating in the beta. I've read a lot of posts on Battle net about how it was no fun to find all their gear so quickly and easily and be done with the game. With the elimination of the Auction House (and apparently, limited form of trading) we can hope to face a great challenge for finding gear in RoS.
So the drop rates for the legendaries with more powerful effects are dropped considerably. I'm not sure of the precise drop rate, though I think if they are making it even a slight possibility you can gamble for said legendaries, that such a change makes sense. Again, think of the many people who will be playing simultaneously. We don't want a game to launch where after the first week, someone has cleaned it out. Now you might be thinking, "So what if the drops come rolling in? Even if it's 'powerful' gear, you can only trade to your friends playing with you so it's not like they'll be in circulation!". I would say to those of you thinking along those lines to consider at this point what makes certain items so valuable. Is it because of their raw stats? Is it how they look? Is it because they're impossible to find? Does it just look cool? Itemization is arguably all of Diablo 3 (if you take out the fighting :P) so why wouldn't it be the greatest challenge of the game? We want low drop rates for the good stuff. I don't want to join a public match and see the same 3 douche bag classes with the same build and the same glowy sword everyone has (transmog aside, i'm talking cookie cutter item standardization)...
I'm sure there can still be great ideas implemented into the drop/trade system, but I agree with the direction they are taking it. It might not be pleasing everyone, but I'm all for what's in the best interest for the balance of the game because everyone is just out there to exploit the mechanics and ruin it for everyone else. -

So true. People are so dead set that a 12+ year old model will work so magically and well if directly translated into the game. I always felt you'd wade through spam and non-serious traders, only to find someone who actually flashed your ebotd or cta that you wanted...and then wanted the ultimate price for it. Either that, or they were just teasing you with it and didn't want to trade at all xDQuote from Timesink
This is why Blizzard can't win. I played D2 for years and years and I absolutely hated the trading system. Thousands of channels and private games. People spamming endlessly. Gold being useless and having to know how many SOJs something was worth. The only people getting gear was by duping or getting crazy lucky. Ugh no thanks. If you want trading then it has to be something like the AH. And we all saw how that turned out. Personally I'm excited for all good gear being BoA. If you want to trade with your "bros" then play with them. Actually playing the game to get gear sounds awesome to me. Spending all my time in chat channels, dealing with scam artists, etc does not sound awesome. They do have to adjust drop rates to make this a reality but there's enough time between now and Mar 25 for rates to be adjusted.Quote from KillerCactus
I liked the trading system in d2. Made a game looking for an item, mf-ed while waiting, then traded (if they ever came). Even annie and torch were tradable. D2 trading is the reason I know to type. The need for fast communication was a must, and, with time, i learned how to type at decent speeds. Mavis Beacon is a joke, people should just play d2 to learn how to type Anyways, if I find an item, I should do with it whatever I want. I play this game with my bro and 2 other friends. With BoA, we wont be able to help each other with handmedowns or items we dont want. If 3rd parties selling items is the problem (like in d2, which is still a freaken awesome game) then greed is what is holding this game back. Im still buying the 80 dollar collector's edition, BoA or not, just hope it doesnt turn into World of Diablocraft.
Still it was pretty much about persistance and time. Diablo 2 was my first online game ever at 11 years old. I had AOL dial up and didn't really know shit about computers. Got curious about online mode so one day, I fired up my (dial-up) AOL service and tried to run D2 in the background and connect online; didn't work. Learning how to troubleshoot, I opened an Internet Explorer window after opening AOL...and Diablo 2 magic stated happening in my life. Now, an ignorant 11 year old me, just took about a year of playing to get a 99 frenzy barb (2 ebotd + enigma + etc) and a ~80 hammerdin (cta + shako + mf gear etc) from knowing nothing about the game and just playing online. So, the people who think D2 was "so complex and required genius"...well lemme tell you...it's not some puzzle lol
So fun to look back at that annoying SOJ system though and be done with it! Looking with Blizzard and everyone else here to find a new system that works for everyone. -

Also, does anyone have a link pointing to details on how BoA is currently supposed to function?
Personally, I believe it should be something similar to WoW (forgive me for saying that...) and by that I mean it should be BoAonly if you choose to equip it. Perhaps this is not Blizzard's intention. I understand that Legendaries are meant to be salvaged as well, but it still is a little disheartening to know you can't trade them at all. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Personally I enjoy leveling because it helps me explore different skill builds more inconsequentially and at a steady rate. That way when I reach max level, I have a better feel for what kind of build I want to strive for.

So basically in my case, it's in my best interest to keep my gf's character on my PS profile as well. That would mean she would sign in as my guest when we play and be able to simultaneously use one of my characters on the account? I will be messing with it when I get the PS3 copy on Thursday. Thanks for helping me clarify a bit
It is a shame to hear that the items won't simply be BoP without the timer. I think it kind of hurts the trading system, but in turn it does make MF and item hunting all that much more important. Ultimately, I think that leaves more motivation to keep playing. Is it a necessary evil? I'm not so sure, but I guess we will see the experience for ourselves soon enough!

It's a shame that duping is as easy as Baldur's Gate (import char/ export char) but I do very much hope it's not going to be so simple on the PS4 RoS. One can only hope but I plan on keeping it exclusive to split screen so I won't worry too much. I hear items will be bound on account now anyway, at least for PC version...still nobody was able to clarify for me if it was bind on equip or bind on pickup. I think I did read somewhere you are given a "trade timer" and allowed to only trade with people who were in your game when you found it...one of the things I am confused about.

My reasoning fails according to someone who is only capable of run-on-sentences, but alright. Why does my argument not hold water? Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you failing to define power leveling yourself? Are you asking questions that somehow constitute as automatically refuting my argument?
If someone is watching all of the cinematics and taking a slow stroll through the game, of course it is likely they may take twice as long or more than a player who is mashing ESC and running to the next mob. However, I don't believe developers would consider "rushing" an exploit as opposed to gaining 40 levels in way under 10 minutes doing effortless nonsense. So just because someone who is taking their time takes half as long as someone (legitimately) "rushing" means that the latter is "power leveling" or questionably so? Compare that with whatever "method" is being used to gain 60 levels in 15 minutes if you feel lack of water in this argument. By the way, exponential XP gain is definitely quantifiable; you can measure it.
I somewhat agree with your 3rd sentence, final paragraph (example of an exploit). It is a more clear cut example of something clearly not intended in the game. Explain to me why a glitch like that should be removed if a player can use an even more efficient leveling method (i.e. the one that started this post) to achieve the same results. If you can level every class to 60 in one day using mentioned method, then IMHO that isabusing. If anything, I think the hardcore community should be concerned the most because it's more difficult by far to get a HC character from 1-60. Remember a lot of players make a defensive build to be able to more easily survive. Yes, people can die "power leveling" but as I'm sure you know there are various forms and ideas of "power leveling" and it sounds to me like 1-60 in 15 mins is generally risk free with low time investment.
And TK, I truly did read your post, I just didn't agree with the premise

I don't believe that people will want to rush through the game or find it such a drag on their first few playthroughs, though a veteran may wish to get other classes to higher levels. Think of choosing a main or first class as some kind of commitment; it will take time to max level other mew characters. At least with Paragon 2.0, that won't be as true now.

I already have the PC version of D3 (oooo collector's baby!) but I plan to continue my journey on Playstation. My main reason for this is because now my girlfriend lives with me and this is practically the perfect casual/hardcore co-op game. I'm just getting her into the right stuff (she got me Phantasy Star Online for Valentine's day, a lost title of my collection) so having to not build her a gaming laptop (for one game) and be able to play on the same screen is what I want. I'm super excited for the PS4 version. However, there is currently no release date and my best guess for best-case scenario would be ~June. I'm getting that hype all over again...so now I bought the PS3 version to start preparing my character for RoS on console.
--Now aside from all my babbling, my question is, do D3 players on console have to prepare for the expansion any differently than players on PC?--
Also for the few of you who may know, I'm confused as to if I'll be able to transfer my D3 PS3 characters on non-PS+ accounts. My account is PS+ but I don't yet have the game (it's currently being shipped) and don't know if my gf can split-screen with a character from my Playstation profile or if I need to make her an offline profile to make her own character. Thanks to anyone who can clarify on that, as somehow I feel like I'm in the wrong place asking that kind of question

That being said, I'm sure something will be done about it. It's not terribly difficult to implement power-leveling barricades.
Also, keep in mind that it's good people are pushing exploits like this because these are obviously the ones nobody wants to see on release. Imagine how many people would be pressured to insta-level to 70 if they could if it was "breaking news" on release. Reminds me when Burning Crusade came out and there were videos about someone who had their clan boost them to lvl 70 in a few hours the day it came out.
EDIT: WoW has guilds, not clans. Yeah...lol
