The way the Talisman was introduced did seem rather shallow, and since you weren't sacrificing inventory space for extra buffs, it just became a requirement.
It's as much of a requirement as other gear slots. I don't get this argument. Why were charms held to a higher standard than other pieces of gear?
A better description would be: more features like the legendary potions and less things like D2 charms.

That thing about the Talisman can be said about any gear slot. Why have a bracers slot, for example? They just add the same stats as the other pieces of gear.
As with everything, the line exists. There aren't ear slots either and there are only two rings for 10 fingers. Diablo 2 had a lot fewer gear slots than DIablo 3, but had charms. Diablo 3 has more gear slots (legs, shoulders, bracers) which gives the player customization over not only their stats, but their otward appearance as well and allows the designers to have more item slot specific stats rather than "Big Charm--->Big Chunk of a stat".

They probably figured the purpose of talismans is covered by creating more actual gear options, which to me is a good tradeoff in a pure RPG sense. Maybe the Talisman reappears down the line as something more than stats, maybe it doesn't.

Once again, to protect the people with OP gear, to stop them ruining their own fun ("People with high-end MP10 vanilla gear WILL use their gear for considerable time after RoS is released" -your words), they're screwing with the people that just want to go into RoS and tinker a bit with their middle-of-the-road gear.
I can't think of a scenario where anyone would be "screwed" by this change. Worst case scenario is a player has to play on a lower difficulty than he/she expected they would be able to play.
"Screwed" was poetic license, it's notthat big of a deal. I just think that, for the majority of 'normal' players, a lot of the fun would be to go into RoS and tinkering with their current gear, not necessarily to make it OP, but just because it's fun to tinker. It's more fun than just outright replace it (to me, at least).
The normal players (likely MP0-MP1 at the very best) will be able to tinker sooner since most drops early on in Act V will be upgrades. This change seems to be like the easiest/cheapest/straight-forward to a solution that impacts a handful of well-rolled high-end legendaries. Doing a bunch of rebalancing and power boosting at the high end is just a lot of work to solve a pretty simple problem.

    "Itseemed super cool"

I've highlighted the operative word. In game development, a lot of thingsseem cool when written down. Even to the point where they have full documents explaining their functionality. However, a lot of the times they just don't work out for any number of reasons (hard to balance, no meaningful gameplay addition, not fun to manage, etc). As Bashiok once said:

It was a cool idea at its core, but right now it's just really too basic and doesn't provide anything you can't get from the armor and weapons you're equipping. It requires a lot of the player to invest time and energy into finding and storing yet another type of item just to add player stats. When they do all that, it's just to do something pretty boring that they can already do with awesome things like armor and weapons.Originally the Talisman had a much deeper design, but it proved very ambitious and it got whittled down over the years to a very basic +stat per single square. We like simplicity in our designs, but charms became superfluous in their purpose'. We really like the core idea, but we don't want to stop everything and spend a large amount of time trying to fix the Talisman, although we do have some great ideas already. So, it'll very likely come back in some form or another after the game ships.

The line at the end is just dev speak for "it's not off the table", like how they couch a lot of statements with "no plans at this time for X".

Come on now seriously they asked..we asked...we wanted it..they gave it..people negative about something we asked for?
Exactly. And I wish people would keep that in mind. Blizzard has been trying to make D3 a newer and better experience for the franchise, and while many of their decisions have been hard-and-fast, without a lot of leeway, they're slowly but surely admitting many of their mistakes and rectifying them, while still staying true to the vision they set out
Just found some links, thought I'd share them from another thread
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR1LTYsGM9U#t=09m50s

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwrfKzMN-hY
They are certainly staying true to their vision

And Yes, I understand *subject to change*
Just, well, a bit disappointing - can that be somewhat understandable without being labeled some term aka whiner, qq, ect

Edit: Some of those youtube videos showcasing pvp and charms are dating back to 2010. Four years ago. Lets keep waiting and have our fingers crossed *subject to change*

Thanks Acti-Blizz for the additional inventory space (although clearly 5 tabs would easily fit graphically).
Those videos you posted just prove the point that they are trying to stick to the vision they repeat often: Concentrated Coolnes. Too many mediocre features is bad.

    Full reset. Fuck everyone.
I actually wish there was a "Reset" button on your account that removes all characters and returns vendors, stash, etc to level 1. Would be cool to build all that up again. Working under constraints while leveling lets you get creative (especially on HC).

Edit: Re, "credit card warrriors", I wonder if anyone was ever called a credit card warrior when they bought a game with the Brady Strategy Guide.

    Quote from Bagstone

Keep the effing trolling out of this thread, will ya.BTT: No word on open beta yet, and might not happen just because stress testing seems to have been done in December already. It's also just an expansion, so not quite rocket science. I'd love to see an open beta though, new people on 70 to play with... right now beta is dead and solo play just isn't fun with the (still broken) wizard right now. I hope there's another big wave after the next patch, and that said patch hits soon...
Word from the blues is a new patch soon. The current build of the game is pretty old according to the blues, so there are likely a mountain of undocumented and documentated changes on the way: http://www.diablofans.com/blizz-tracker/topic/52019-maghda-is-dropping-des-at-level-70

Obviously will be applied to both. But, Blue has confirmed it.
After the multiple and repeated missteps Blizzard has taken over the last few weeks...I don't think "obviously" is a label that should be applied to any decisions they make. But anyway, thanks. Had to do some digging in the blue tracker to find it.
    "Multiple and repeated missteps"

Care to elaborate? It is a game in beta afterall.

Here is the thing, they made drop rates too high initially and got the feedback on it. Then they drastically lowered the drop rates and got the feedback on it. Maybe they did this intentionally as to paint a better picture of the middle ground, which is maybe what "doubling it" means in this case. I know it's hard to not be entirely cynical at this point, and it isn't unjustified, but here is hoping. My feelings about this game are akin to a roller coaster ride. I'm hoping Reaper of Souls turns out to be something really great. ^_^
If you follow a game closely while it is in development, that's what happens. The designers mess with numbers a lot to see what works.

The addition of the first kill legendaries and loot 2.0 in general have addressed this issue I think.

posted a message on A little Heart to Heart about RoS...

All I said was that it wouldn't surprise me if it really were 1 legendary : 2.47 hours and it got rounded down to make it seem that the observed drop rate is more in line with what the community wants while they silently go in and alter the numbers in the next patch/hotfix rather than admit they had to buff the drop rates.

There is really no benefit to him doing that. He wrote the post and laid everything out voluntarily. If he pulled those numbers out after a random fan question at Blizzcon or something I would be more skeptical.

So I guess the question is, what drives Blizzard, who isn't going to get anything after the sales, to really polish this game up the way we hope it will be? Cookies?

They've (likely, since I don't work for Blizzard, but have done game projects) already budgeted out how much money/time they are going to spend on every system and feature. Rolled into that budget is time for testing and polish (aka beta, balancing, feedback, etc). That total amount of money spent to make and polish the game ensures that they will make money when the game is released.

Also, a polished game that is popular brings attention to blizzard and it's other titles, Community is the #1 way to generate game revenue.

I am so glad I am not a poor soul that pre-ordered. Lost interest in this game a long time ago. There is so much more to life then being at the mercy of a gaming company.

posted a message on A little Heart to Heart about RoS...

It looks like that was a lot of words just to say "I'm pretty happy with RoS and most of its features, but drop rates and rewards need to be tweaked/improved." The next beta patch could tweak legendary drop rates (that before some said were way too high) up.Or not. Who knows. What we do know is that everyone seems pretty happy with the improvements to the game and all the complaints are centered around some numbers tweaking.

By all means, express your concerns and give lots of feedback, but making assumptions like:

You guys need to look at the whole picture with your changes. If you keep changing 1091823098 variables at once without seeing how each one interacts with each other, you’re not gathering any meaningful data. With all of these changes happening at once, it’s like all of the time spent researching droprates was wasted.

...is really silly and just conjecture that isn't necessary.
