I'm not sure i follow what you mean, what does cold skill/rune do? What is frost affix?

There are currently alot of useless affixes, if they are all replaced by spell buff affixes then its not really 100's more affixes. There would be a higher chance of getting an affix that is useful

You just listed 38 affixes for wizard skills. If I assume an equal number of affixes for the other classes, that's 190 new affixes BEFORE the expansion introduces 1 or 2 new classes. I don't know how many item affixes are in the game, but I don't think it's anywhere close to 190. Furthermore, of the affixes in the game, only some percentage of them are so useless or redundant that they should be removed.

Conclusion: In fact you are actually suggesting introducing hundreds of new affixes, which would make it even more impossible for something to drop with what you actually wanted on it.

D3X1 will premiere at gamescom, just like D3 premiered at the WWI 2008, and not at BlizzCon 2008.

WWI was the BlizzCon equivalent for Europe/Asia. It was a Blizzard event and was appropriate for such an announcement. A generic gaming convention... I don't know. :)

Generally speaking, gamescom > BlizzCon, because gamescom is the world’s largest trade fair and event highlight for interactive games and entertainment. ;)

And lets not forget that Blizzard needs to keep the interest in the game afloat, because that "Loot 2.0" blog is still some time away imo. I expect the D3X1 announcement, a cinematic trailer featuring the 6th class, and a press conference about the class and the main features with "more details and a hands-on demo coming at BlizzCon".

I'm thinking something along these lines is more and more likely. Interest and activity in the game has plummeted over the last few months, and I think Blizzard wants to do something to remind everybody that the game still exists and there are cool things coming. All of the fansite events, interviews, etc. aren't enough to reach the casual gamers that don't visit fansites so have never seen or heard of any of these interviews. An announcement followed by a cool trailer will get just enough press coverage to re-ignite some interest in the game, which is exactly what Blizzard needs.

posted a message on Blizzard's "special announcement" for Gamescom
I was pretty sure it was something minor that I wouldn't care about, likely something to do with consoles. But diablo.incgamers is speculating that it is indeed the expansion, and they have a pretty convincing argument. Who knows - don't really care when it's actually announced, since I probably won't end my D3 break until it launches, and that's certainly a long way off still.

    Quote from Laevus

Blizzard's silence seems strange. I know they're enthusing on the console side of things, but they're supposed to have separate teams for that, so what are the PC devs doing? I'm half expecting there to be a big announcement in the next 2-4 weeks and *BANG* patch with some crazy new things in we never saw coming.

    Quote from Ashy_Larry

They're probably putting all hands on deck to bang out the console version... once that's out and blizzcon is over they'll most likely start up (or continue) 1.0.9.... otherwise the legendary dyes are eating up all of the devs time ;P

If you actually look at what the fansites are all jointly reporting from that mixer they held on Friday, it's pretty clear what's going on. They never intended for content patches to be as frequent as they have been, but they were necessary because the game was released in a rather poor state. Moving forward, instead of dropping patches every few months, they are instead focusing on major new content (new itemization, expansion content [new class(es), new act(s), etc.]). They are not actively working on a patch 1.0.9, there are no plans on the table for what will go in the next patch, and they don't anticipate any patches before Blizzcon.

Internally, they are probably focused on working on the expansion and associated item revamp, which may or may not come as a free patch before the expansion drops (they have never officially stated one way or the other on this point). 1.0.9 was never referenced specifically by Blizzard, it was something fans invented. I think it's pretty clear that the PC and console teams are separate, as they keep insisting, so I don't think the push to launch the console has any bearing whatsoever on the patches (or lack thereof) for the PC version.

Yeah, it's not really that surprising though, honestly.

No developer has ever mentioned that patch or mentioned more content coming soon. This is one of those things that the community invented and then spread around and Blizzard just didn't feel like going out and flat-out rejecting in case they pulled a 180 and needed/decided to Patch before Blizzcon or D3X.

Oh yeah, completely agree that's it's not really big news except to people who invented dream patches (and dream timetables) in their heads. Wasn't meant as an indictment of Dfan's coverage at all - I just meant it as an explanation for why people posting in these forums might not have been aware of it.

Go for it. I can't tell you how many times I lost all my D2 characters due to inactivity (those were the days when characters were deleted if you didn't log in every so often). Starting over and leveling up was a giant part of the long-term replayability of that game, although the fact that you also had so many choices on the type of character you wanted to build also helped greatly.

They are not working on any content patches at the moment. They are working on new content, but not patches. See lengthy explanations at the following, which are summaries from attendees at the fansite mixer Blizzard held on Friday:

posted a message on High MP - Hellfire Ring or No
My hellfire is 100% total and complete garbage - I can boost my dps by something like 15-20k just switching back to a cheap rare. But I still use it when I'm farming mp8, in both solo and public games, because my dps is already high enough without it, and the experience gain is spectacular.

My last comment probably came off much snottier and critical than I intended. I consider this site a valuable resource for my Diablo news, and commend the staff of this site for the work they do so that lazy people like me can get all our news from one place! :)

I have to admit I don't really understand how the arguments over on the official forums over moderation actions qualify as news worthy of the front page of a fansite. Those arguments happen on an almost daily basis.

posted a message on Lookin for Chill People to Kill Monsters With!
You more or less described the way I play exactly. All of my real-life friends, and most of my in-game friends, have quit, so I'm always looking for more people to team up with on farming runs. My main is a wizard, high 60s paragon at the moment. I can run MP10 solo with CM/WW spec, but elites take forever to actually kill, and I'm still building up my gearset. I'm much more comfortable at MP6-8.

    Here's a novel idea:

Use that 4cc mempo on your own character, or sell it on the gold auction house and use that gold to buy new items for your character.

Never mind, sorry, I forgot for a moment that people are still interested in profiting off a video game that is supposed to be about fun and entertainment.

    Quote from Orni

    Quote from wushu1878

i see people sell so much packs of unid, where do thy get all those items?

my guess is that the drops change quite a bit once you cap out magic find and still kill everything quite fast

also, it's simply a matter of time. if you play for 10 hours a day - and do so for a week - you'll naturally end up with a shitload of legendaries of all kinds

if you're (like me and most people) only play for about 12 hours a week or less, and "only" have average equip and dps (I'm having 230k selfbuffed) and only one or two magic-find items + monster power 5-7, you simply won't cap out magic-find, not even close - and therefore don't see that amount of legendaries

I feel the need to point out that "most people" don't play for 12 hours a week or have 230k dps. Don't use these forums as a guide to defining the "normal" player, because the "normal" player doesn't post on these forums. I'd be willing to bet that the average player is something more like a buddy of mine, who has a job and a kid, and also plays WoW, so generally only hops on 1 or 2 nights a week for 1-2 hours per night. I think his best character is paragon 9 or 10, and I think he does around 50k dps.

Of those 3 million active users per month Blizzard recently claimed, I'd bet more are like him than like you.

Otherwise, I agree completely with your sentiment.
