There is a variety of spells in GW2. It just depends what weapon you choose for your "spec." Thief for example can combine different weapons for different combinations of abilities. (i.e. Gun + Dagger). Who's to say what combination is best? It's sort of preference based at first, but eventually I'm sure there will be a "best" combination. Then you have utility abilities to unlock with Trait points on top of that.
Maybe they're a bit clunky, but they're a lot more fluid than previous MMOs I've played (Star Wars, Rift, countless F2P). And so what that you "max" out your weapons fairly quickly. It would be boring beyond belief if it took too long to level up each weapon. Like spamming Sinister Strike building up useless combo points until you could learn Eviscerate level of boring.
Character depth is also not only about your abilities, but also the character themselves. They're actually pretty interesting to follow in the main storyline (which is unique depending on race, and on what choices you made during the character creation.) But I forget that storyline doesn't matter when there's stuff to kill and buttons to smash on the keyboard.
There are fun activities to participate in, as I briefly went over in my previous post. If you don't enjoy anything in the game then it's not the games fault that it doesn't meet your expectations. Because they must be ridiculously high if you can't find anything fun in a game as open and diverse as GW2. If the content doesn't interest you, then you're looking into the wrong game genre, I'd presume.
This is my 2 cents on the game, showing people the "light" from my perspective.

The world is gorgeous and gigantic. I've never played another game with such huge cities to run around in. I've discovered there are a lot of people that roleplay on my server as well, which is pretty awesome. I've stumbled across a few pretty good RP's and just sat around and read what was happening.
I realize the game isn't for everyone. No game is, really. But as a game without a subscription fee, I can see myself playing quite a bit of it, returning to it from time to time if I ever get bored. Much like Diablo 3, which I still enjoy; just have other games I'd rater spend my time in.
Sucks you didn't enjoy it, good luck finding something you do like.

I started up a Thief and like it so far. I've been trying out the different weapons they can use and so far my favorite is the double pistols!

Thinking about trying out the level 30 dungeon. Maybe tomorrow, though.

The hat on my outfit makes me laugh, though, since the feather on there is about the size of my Asuran.
Standing next to a Norn. Lol. Asuran are ridiculously small!
P.S. - The Puzzle in Queensdale is absolutely awful. Had to get a party for the 2 king slimes in there. Ha ha.

I was working on the Goemm's Lab Puzzle Achievement, which is pretty tedious. I was on the Chilly section of the puzzle and noticed a dead character waiting to be resurrected. Started to resurrect him as another player hopped up behind me. The player on the ground says "Wait!" right as I start to resurrect, and all of a sudden I get blasted by a chunk of ice. I noticed the Ice Elemental elite up on the platform ahead and jump my way over to kill it.
I did all these crazy jumps and had a dodge that almost sent me off the edge, and the player that was behind me resurrected the guy on the ground and we're all about to kill it, then all of a sudden I'm flying off the platform. Turns out the monster had a knock back. I felt SO cool managing all that, then it didn't matter anyway. Ha ha!
I've been having such a blast with this game. My Elementalist is level 25. I've been going through all of the starter areas and only have the Charr area left. Then I'll move onto the level 15 zones.
I also played around with the Black Lion Trading Company, which is the cash shop. It turns out you can trade gold (in-game currency) for the diamonds (what real money becomes) or vice-versa, which I thought was pretty cool. I spent the $50 for the 4000 diamonds and spent the majority of it expanding the amount of bags I could carry (think WoW bags). The most of my diamonds went towards dyes and to turn my Asura into a little pirate.
I don't normally spend $$ in cash shops. But I decided to spend as much as I would have to purchase the game. Since I received my copy as a gift.

I'm about level 12 now and my character still looks awesome thanks to being able to dye your gear whenever. It seems to keep the colors you picked at the character creation by default.
The combat stance is so adorable too. XD I love her ears stand up during combat.

Post a picture of your character and maybe some people will end up on the same server!

I've been watching more of these videos, they're all so enjoyable and funny. Loved this one, the part with the girl coughing and sniffling made me laugh so much.
