posted a message on Is Beta too hard for grandma?
Another thing to keep in mind is- SK isn't the boss of Act 1. He's a mini boss, a stepping stone, he isn't intended to make people weep. Especially not on normal. As it was stated, normal is the introduction to the game. Is it intended to be boringly easy for every player? Probably not, but it's only a fraction of the first Act out of 4. The beta is not what you should judge the difficulty by. Wait until retail.

I do honestly agree with nearly everything you said. But, why wouldn't you judge a game by today's standard if you haven't played it before? If something new comes out, I'm not going to judge it on the standards of its genre a decade ago. Standards are subject and they change as the industry changes. Would I have loved D2 years ago, almost certainly. But currently, I can't really enjoy it. A large part of why is that I don't have any nostalgic memories.

I don't judge games only on graphics, but I would be lying if I said I missed blocky and pixilated faces from games 5 or 6 years ago.

I don't dislike games because they're old, I dislike the limitations they had years ago.

Well just consider this. Any new game you can compare Diablo to. Would it exist in it's current form without Diablo setting a precedent? Sure you can't KNOW the answer to the question. But you can see where I'm coming from. When a game sets the standards, you don't judge it against the same standards just polished and improved. You judge them, WHEN and IF new standards emerge, by a game good enough to join the "pantheon" and re-set them sort of saying. Diablo, I believe fits in that category. Can't compare FF against new games, not if they are based on the same basis and they just improve on that cause the technology allows them to. Innovation goes a long way for me, as I believe it should.

A valid point, but as technology improves, so do the expectations of the industry and the players. Diablo 1 and 2 were great games, that have a huge following and a great number of games inspired because of them. (Torchlight 1 & 2, Path of Exile (currently in beta)...) The list could go on if I wanted to open up another tab for google.

I can only speak for myself, but I imagine I'm not the only one whose taste and expectations have changed in games over the years. If I play an older game, I do try to take into consideration the time when it was created. But I can't simply make design flaws or limitations disappear. Also, older games aren't even meant to run on current hardware, so they can't really be running as intended. I imagine the reason I have mouse issues in D2 is because my monitor resolution is likely 4 times the size of D2's max.

*edit* The beta is finally up again. May not be very quick to respond... Not that I ever was.
*edit 2* The beta is down again... :/

I wasn't speaking of graphics. Sure, they're not impressive, but neither are D3's.

I'm entitled to my opinion, just as you are yours. As is anyone who reads this thread to decide which opinions coincide with theirs.

There is no reason to define a gamer of any type, games have one purpose; to distract and entertain.
It will either do that, or it wont.

You and I are within a year of the same age, according to your profile. What is a "new age" gamer to you? I take "new age" gamer to mean someone not blinded by nostalgia.

As I said, it truly is subjective, but to a measure. Some games are great no matter what. Some games are great and I don't even like them, but I can still acknowledge the fact that they are great (ex civilization). My definition of new age gamer is one that rates graphics higher than innovation. Popularity higher than gameplay. Saying the Diablo games "were great a decade ago, and would be bad today if judged by today's standards" that for me was the foul. A game that redefined it's genre means it can't be judged by today's standards, for those standards in a huge way were set by said game itself.

Hell no... D1 and D2 are pretty bad by today's standards if you don't have any nostalgia for them.

I did buy D2 a month ago, and I've only played it a couple hours. I found a lot of aspects to be frustrating and was unable to get into it. Without nostalgia, all you have is a game that was great- a decade ago.

Seriously, it really is subjective but come on. I really sometimes can't stand new age gamers. Great games are great no matter what. Pong is still great, the Mario games are still great. Grim Fantago is still great and so are the Leisure Suit Larry games. Metal Gear Solid is still an awesome game and so is Legend of Zelda. The same goes for a number of titles and specific installments of them. Graphics never did and never will make or break a game...

Very much looking forward to D3.

At least we didn't see a three hour delay this time.

    There's still time, :P.

Yeah. Pretty sure the usual routine is to wait an hour before mentioning said delay. The obviousness softens the blow...

    I got my key! ./gloats!

Still, they did try to do it a fair way. And it's much better than one of the dozens of contests that wants do some facebook thing and waits 2 weeks to draw winners.

    Thank you OP!

Can you guys please tell me, how do I know, at what time I have re-tweeted. I have spotted this post on forums, when there was about 6 replies. Straight after I have created new acc on twitter (never used it before). Re-tweeted their tweet + followed and still have not got anything.

So I am just wondering If I was too late, or got missed? Would be nice to check it somehow so I know my chances.

I think You have a good chance. They still have about 200 more to send out. But they have stopped distributing them for the night.

Same for me, Sylvian. Others in the thread have mentioned getting one after retweeting a couple hours after it started. They compile a list and send them out in random order. Hopefully no one early on get screwed.

WOOOT Got my key! Guess if you posted before 2 hours or so you should be getting a key soon! Didn't show up online but came through my android app. Good luck guys! I'm off to betaland.

Hmm. No iPhone or Android (or other smartphone) with twitter. Will it not show up at all in your browser, or is it just slow? Retweeted around the 1 hour~ mark, so I'm very curious.

It will show up in your browser, if you are worried, click on your dms and check it anyways. Or test by sending yourself a dm to make sure you are getting them.

Good idea, don't know why that didn't occur to me.
