posted a message on Magic find averaged
A lot of things that I have posted before have been said already in this thread.

I will touch one topic that I didn't see come up here yet, and that's the "sweet spots" for MF.

If MF behaves the same way that it did in D2, then certain amounts result in different general drops. If you're in a certain window of MF, items become more likely to be Set rather than Unique. That's a spot that most people intentionally avoid.

If MF is split and shared, you're going to be getting drops that you no longer want anymore, and you'll be forced to solo in the end so that you can force the specific quality you're searching for to drop.

I'd hope they changed that mechanic if they want this coop MFing to work. If not, then there's no reason to stay in a group. Sure, you'll kill monsters x times faster and get x more drops.. but none of them will be in the range you want unless the group happens to have a combined average of x MF.

I'm sorry that you're too stupid to understand the problems here.

I'd visit the doctor because there might be something wrong with your brain.

If you want to leave an emergency contact number of your family, I will contact them and inform them that you're no longer able to make informed decisions on your own and you need help.

#3 makes no sense. You're looking at your own equipped item so no need to hover over it to see details.

When you find new gear, You can always look at the item's itself that shows gains and losses...

Excuse me? You must be joking. I have xxx in whatever stat, and I want to see how much it will drop down if i don't have the current weapon on. That's not relevant?

Dude, even if the item is in your inventory and not equipped and it has a large window of information it's going to cover a lot of those stats unless you move it to the right side of your inventory (which is a HUGE hassle that no one should have to deal with) just so it doesn't block the stats.

I thought the entire point of them adding it to the inventory window was so you could easily see how your stats change when you switch gear around? If you can't even see the full window when you're actually looking at gear though, what exactly is the point?

Edit: Let's even build a little scenario. Let's say you found a sweet spot for MF, similar to how D2 worked, and you want to get exactly (or close to) a certain MF margin. You hover over an item in your inventory, and want to see how much you'll get once you equip it. But no! It's blocking the window and then you have to move off the item to see what you currently have, then back on to see what it'll give. Sounds like a great system to me.

Doesn't make any difference to me one way or another.

But hey, keep it in, and keep the crybabies from crying. I want to see them go and make their stupid builds that require basic attack now.

All the relevant info was offset to the B key. Short of personal preference, there's really no reason to still include a character screen.

    1) The B hotkey does not save the preference to show all the Details. The C key did.

    2) If all of the same information was already on the character screen, your argument becomes completely invalid since there's no reason to include it somewhere else (but they did that anyway).

    3) http://jprizament.com/convenient.jpg If this were on the character screen, on the left, I wouldn't have half of my vital detailed information blocked. And this is just a silly magical item with 3 lines.

posted a message on It looks like the skill UI is here to stay
It is a sad day indeed. I really don't understand why even in Elective mode why all the skills can't be listed on one screen, and instead you get a huge window with 80% dead space being unused, forcing you to click left and right to get to the *right section.

    * The section names are very inaccurate, and while they have the correct skills you were searching for, they are in no way the right sections.

I'm surprised that they don't have an automatic skill placement system when you gain new skill slots, which would build up to a general cookie cutter build. They seem to be moving in the idiot-proof direction afterall.

Esc -> Options -> Key Bindings

That is probably the least relevant and helpful response you could have possibly posted.

If you bothered to read the post, the main issue is not with the lack of anything being attached to the button. It's the loss of the character screen. Thanks for trying though (not)

A few comments on why I feel this should never have been removed and why it should be brought back.

Aside from the very obvious reason that it doesn't feel like a Diablo game, or even an action/rpg game at ALL without that button bringing up your character's stats, I will skip to the next reasons.

    1) It occurs to me that currently the only way to actually see how much exp you have and what level you are is by hovering over the tiny little exp bar at the bottom. Now okay, this is a minor issue since it's not exactly information you need access to all the time. But what if you want to see exactly how much exp monsters are giving you so you can know which is the best place to level up? Try targeting and killing some monsters and then moving the mouse back in time to the exp bar to see how much exp you're getting. Instead of being able to press C and watch that change as you kill.

    2) You can't get your extended and full stats with a single key press with it being linked to your inventory. You have to open the inventory, and then click for more detailed information. Every time. Those stats used to stay open all the time if you toggled the detailed info button on the Char Screen. It's annoying and sure, it's just 1 more click, but it's DOUBLE the work that it should be. Why should it have to be this way?

    3) I can imagine that there will be a time when an item has so many mods on it that when you hover over it, it will actually cover up the stats because it's right next to it in your inventory or equipped to you. That'll be obnoxious.

I thought Blizzard had an "if it's not broken, don't fix it" attitude. So I really can't wrap my head around why they felt the need to destroy that page and put it somewhere else. It's not like they were making way for something new.. I can't even count how many times I've pressed C and forgotten that there's no char screen anymore.

I guess they're adapting a new attitude -- the "change it just for the hell of it" attitude.

The only conceivable reason I can see for this change would be so you can view your follower's stats and yours at the same time, to see changes on their gear and how it affects your own stats. But if this is the case, why not just have both? Is it harmful or something? I don't get it..

    Quote from arkaith

If each character could choose one ability of the following:

    1) Increase all damage by 50% for 60 seconds, 5 minute cooldown
    2) Decrease all damage taken by 50% for 60 seconds, 5 minute cooldown

Which would you choose and why?

Mathematically speaking, you should choose the second option. With option number 2, you take half as much damage, so it actually doubles your "defensive power". Option number 1 doesn't double your "offensive power", it just multiplies it by 1.5. I'm assuming you wanted to make the 2 option equally as viable, so I'd suggest the following options:

    1) Doubles your damage for 1 minute. 5 minute cooldown.
    2) Halves any damage taken for 1 minute. 5 minute cooldown.

Sorry for going all math police on you.

If you didn't understand my reasoning, there's an illustrative example in the spoiler.
The two percentages shouldn't be the same, here's an example.

    1) Increase all damage by 100%
    2) Decrease all damage taken by 100%

Clearly number 2 is much better than number 1, since it makes you immortal. Another way to think of it is: What would be the matching option to "Increase damage by 150%"? "Decrease damage taken by 150%"? That doesn't make sense.

The way to create "matching options" in this case, is to make sure the rate your damage goes up, multiplied by the rate the damage taken goes down, equals 1.
    In the OP's example, 1.50 (damage rate) x 0.50 (defense rate) = 0.75, not 1.
    In my example 2.00 x 0.50 = 1.

EDIT: This isn't taking into account that the wizard shouldn't get hit, or possible lifesteal, or any gameplay mechanic, it's just pure math.

Everything you have said is true and correct. Option #1 should in fact be +100% damage. Thank you for pointing this out.

Ya know, we have a poll system in place if you want to do a poll.

I know. But the poll system does not work. I can't add a second option. The poll system doesn't seem to like Chrome, so I tried to on IE and it didn't seem to want to work there either. If you can edit my post for me and add the poll, by all means go ahead. :P

I would personally choose #1, because I feel that regardless of how hard they promise Inferno will be, I get the feeling that eventually we will be geared up so extremely well that we won't need to be as careful with our defense and will instead want to exchange it for more offense so that we can clear things faster.

I would have said the opposite, and here is why:

    - Your offensive capabilities like DPS etc. will always be fairly high, even in inferno, if all the skills are based on weapon damage. A level X sword that you find within the first 5-10 mins of inferno will probably be comparable or maybe even superior to what you currently have equipped. That new sword = the damage level they want you to be at.

    - Your defensive capabilities, although equally matched to items, will most likely be no match to any enemy on inferno since they are all the same level if not higher than you.

    - So your best bet (since they will have massive hit points and can take a beating) is for you to increase your defense as much as possible to offset the absolute destruction they will be dishing out.

In fact, it was even said by the Bliz employees in the official Inferno vid that we will want to increase our defensive stats and resistances as much as possible.

This is a good point, but I suppose my gameplay style is similar to what Sloth said; I myself will be playing a wizard, and I don't plan on absorbing the damage -- I'll be trying to avoid it altogether when possible.

Besides, once I start to collect gear I think I'd find the defense boost to be unnecessary and then I'd be begging to get the damage instead. :)

The poll options don't seem to be cooperating, so I can't make a poll, which sucks.

    Elective mode.

    Problem solved.

Elective mode doesn't really change the fact that a flaming ball of fire that does Fire damage (shocking! [not literally, it's still fire]) isn't Arcane and should not be categorized as such. :P
