posted a message on Environmental Mechanics
One of the biggest features of D3 that I am looking forward to is the new environmental mechanics. Playing through Diablo 1 and 2 always felt like there was something missing. In other games, including pen/paper rpgs, there have been options to use your environment to your advantage. Diablo so far has only been able to do that with well timed trap triggers or bottlenecks in dungeons. There were plenty of opportunities to do more. Now D3 offers that with the trap and world object mechanics in the environment. I can't wait to pull a bookshelf down on something's head or drop boulders on a horde of baddies.

What are other's thoughts on the new mechanics?

posted a message on You play for the lore or for the action?
I like to play games that have a good balance of game play and story/lore. A game can have a great story but poor system. Or it can have a great system and a poor story. Either of those will make me not want to continue torturing myself or I'll trudge through it just to experience one side or the other. It is hard to find a good balance. The first Diablo had a good beginning but eventually lost its appeal for repeated play. D2 did a better job and I enjoyed it but the repetition still got to me. D3 thought looks to bring story and game play together. I'm looking forward to seeing it first hand.

posted a message on Discussion on multiplayer "ethics" and good team play
One of key factors that I have found when playing any online game has been communication. Talk with the people you group with. If they don't mind that you lag a little behind the pack in damage but can help with MF or other benefits, they might still be willing to take you along. Not everyone plays at the same level and those that are strict on who they group with will also have to keep to a smaller gathering of players at their speed and level or play. As for getting to bosses/events before others, that should be an automatic. It's not cool to progress the game/story while the rest of the party is still hacking through the mobs while you leap attack across the map.

posted a message on To co-op or not to co-op?
Unfortunately, my options are limited for co-op with my friends. Due to my work schedule, I'm usually getting on when most of them are heading to bed or already asleep. I plan to play through at least once on Solo and then try to meet up (and possibly make new friends) with other people who might be in a similar stuation online. My only real hope is that I am able to find more subdued players than I had found in D2 online. It always seemed that you either had to be completely hardcore or just not bother. Maybe things will have changed a bit. Well anyway, I will see you all online when D3 hits in Q2.
