At best, we know they are working on things, because of hires. That's it. But we always knew they were working on things. That's what people do at work. lol If that were not the case, Wyatt, Travis, Kevin Martens would have moved on long ago.

posted a message on Shock and Disappointment

I don't think Blizzard has a lot of incentive to add to this game because they'd rather have people playing their other franchises. Especially the e-sport variety. Even Wyatt Cheng himself has expressed that it's okay if people leave it for a long time then come back. So it'll never be that constant updated game people wish it were. And seemingly even less often updated than I expected. By the time we get real content (zone + necro) it'll be nearly two agonizing years after patch 2.4.

Unless they've got something bigger in the works to show at a later event. A possibility, but don't hold your breath.

The positive is that this character pack may generate revenue for them, and if it goes well, we may get more content, or maybe this is simply to keep the status quo, and stop the bleeding, since the game hasn't made a constant stream of revenue like their other games.

posted a message on Necromancer post by J. Mueller

They hired a new art director 11 months ago. He's on the 45 minute panel to help discuss new content for Diablo 3.

Why? Art director's do the heavy lifting, like world design, telling the artists how everything should feel and look, the colors, the mood, high level shit. So he'll probably be up there to say, "Look at this cathedral! Or this entirely new area! This is the feel we went after when creating Skovos."

So D3 is getting something, and it may be as huge as an expansion. Because you don't put your art director on stage to talk about transmogs and season resets, which I keep hearing is the expectation and is getting ridiculous.

This is a very well done poll, I must say. Would be nice to have a larger sample size.

One thing not on the list: pushing GRs. I like the rush of that, the focus it requires. But maybe to some that's just grind, hah

But I dunno, man. Pushing GRs gets me excited in ways no other ARPG can, where most just devolve into drooling while you collect loot, at least D3 offers those rare moments of a genuine rush.

As for my vote, I favored loot and build diversity, which probably contradicts my preference for pushing GRs. I don't mind the pigeon hole, but I would like them to work on making more of the sets fun to play. A lot are quite mundane.

There's still a lot of people working on D3. Travis Day, Wyatt, Andrew Chambers, Don Vu, these are important guys on the team. John Yang mostly designed items and did balance for classes, so he'll be missed, but doesn't mean production grinds to a halt. Boyarsky was in charge of setting, so I'd imagine his work is mostly in early parts of development, (he left in April) and Mosqueira left only three months ago. I'm thinking they had wrapped up the biggest parts of development, which made it a good time to move on. At this stage it could mostly be graphics and art that needs to get done.

I assume if we haven't heard of them leaving, then they're probably still there.

I'm mostly basing this on how I hear other companies work. You finish a project, take a few months off, then get back to work on the next big thing. I don't see how Blizz would be any different. You don't finish something then spend 2 years twiddling your thumbs. That just seems absurd.

It's likely they've been working on an expansion the last two years.

Think of it this way. Even looking at the updates we've had there's no way that's enough work to fill all the hours of a 9 to 5 job for a group of five or so designers. Why would you keep that many people on the payroll, paying their salary and healthcare, if they're just going to dink around with balance? If that were the case, then Wyatt et. al has the easiest job in the world. In other words, if you're paying people, you better be planning a return on that investment. I know Blizzard has more money than god, but I don't see them as a charity.

posted a message on Firebird 6pc bugged?

Here is an amusing, but helpful guide I came across:

Firebird refresher tips, in case anyone doesn't remember the good old days:

    - Be aggressive. always be kiting into new parts of the map, never backwards. The more enemies there are burning, the more damage you deal to each of them, and you need to have AT LEAST like 20 at a time to be doing it right.

    - Be aggressive. You've got a potion and two cheat death effects, so you're actually really tanky if you think about it.

    - Seriously, if at any time you don't have at least one of your three cheat deaths on cooldown, you're being a bad firebird. If the "You died" screen pops up and your purple bar is higher than the little yellow line, that means you're doing a good job. Come to think of it, since the first death doesn't make you sit through a countdown, that's basically a fourth cheat death effect. The key to the 'bird is to go deep and do whatever you want so long as 20 monsters and an elite are on fire.

    - Even while you're dead, they still burn.

    - They burn even when you're dead.

    - It doesn't matter if you're dead, if everyone else is dead.

    - You are not burning enough enemies. You are never burning enough enemies.

    - Die.

It doesn't matter if you're dead, if everyone else is dead.

Just hit GR73, (74 now!) so the set is very solid. The dying thing is more of a joke, I'm actually quite tanky, but it speaks to the mindset required. It's a role playing game, you must become the Firebird.

The stacks are counted for every enemy burning. This will clear things up nicely: https://gfycat.com/SecondUnrealisticFlamingo Apparently all you need is a 4k resolution to see that god awful buff.

So, 24 stacks for an elite plus however many regular monsters you can get burning. As you'd expect it to work.

When enemies are "burning" based on the set's meaning of the word, you'll see a flame above their heads signifying this. It's a sort of spiky flame, so it's hard to miss. Enemies tend to have a fire effect on their bodies when hit by any fire spell, but that's just aesthetic.

This will become easier to notice at higher difficulty levels.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#RQYSfj!dhZi!aacZZa

It's purely damage from Disintegrate. Spin your beam, light em' up quick, and get it over with. Usually I'll tag an elite, then wipe the rest of the screen with the buff. No fussing with procs or spells missing. Just you and your big laser beam.

That being said, I've had a fair bit success with Apocalypse. It covers a nice area, and you get more enemies burning quicker, for TX rifts, at least. So you get more buff = more damage. Twister has a chance to miss, covers a smaller area, and you really want to light as much on fire as possible. Which is why I prefer a straightforward laser beam.

Firebird's burn damage also benefits highly from modifiers like +Fire damage, which the FB source has.

This is more to my liking, more reminiscent of the Monk dashing strike farm build I ran last season. Running around rolling your face on the keyboard for EBs isn't my idea of fun, and relying on In-Geom procs is super limiting. Plus finding one of them, AND a Woh? Ha! Also, Explosive Blast going off non-stop gets really tiring to listen to.

Evidence I've seen for good T6 clears shows it's definitely worth it, (4 legs an hour) if you can clear it fast, which is totally fine. Why should this come as a shock that hard modes require good gear to do efficiently? T6 just isn't the gimme free plz mode people expect it to be. "I killed four elites in T6 and got no legendaries! WTF!!!"
Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion

posted a message on t1>t6 wtf
Making T6 drop rates too high would actually suck. Since the compulsion to run something you can barely survive in or take forever to clear would be too great, which leads to boring game play. (Remember most players don't care about fun, just doing what is most efficient. If T6 gave you the best items even while taking 20 minutes to kill an elite, people would do it.) It's like Act 2 pre nerf Inferno. You didn't like it, but if you wanted items, it was the only choice.

Torment levels are only meant as a reasonable way to continue to challenge yourself while also giving incetive to having the gear in the first place. If all we had was T1, getting better gear wouldn't feel as great. It's similar to the issue D2 had. (Yay, I can kill Baal 3 seconds faster!)

It's one item. And a bug fix at that. There still exists a lot of very powerful items in this game, though that isn't to say SoH isn't still a powerful item, just not 4m damage per second to everything in 20 yards powerful. If a weapon were that powerful, it'd have to be a damn sight rarer than it even is now.

SoH should be good, but when used with other pieces of gear, such as several lightning boosting items. This is actually good balance. Because right now there are way more fire enhancing pieces of armor, but no great fire proc weapons, while lightning is a bit behind, but you've got great lightning proc weapons.

posted a message on Upcoming Loot Hotfixes soon 25% to 100%
I'm not worried about drop rate increases. I would say Blizzard is aware of the problem of people gearing up too quickly, and I imagine they have things planned to mitigate this issue. Such as adding new items to the game. Really, all it comes down to is getting a point where loot is rewarding vs. how often they can add new stuff. I think tiered rifts are going to be where the "real" loot is at, with higher tiers featuring truly godly items, and all the stuff we find now just being introductory gear to get us into the higher rifts. This sort of progression makes me think of gearing in WoW. You'd run normal dungeons until you hit a certain gear level, then you'd do the heroics for the nicer gear, then you'd be ready for raids, where you get the truly godly stuff. Travis having years of experience with this sort of progression, I won't be surprised to see D3 follow a similar model. It works.

Not that any of this will come to pass, I'm just thinking out loud here, based on the information they've revealed. Either way, we know they're adding more items. They've mentioned it dozens of times, so I'm not worried about gearing up too quickly. I'd rather have as much fun as possible finding awesome loot, and not worry about, "Oh no, the game will get boring in 300 hours!"

I just find it funny people are so upset over this. It's a blue bar that moves right. Now it moves slightly slower. Cannot fathom how this got blown so far out of proportion, since XP grinding is such a small part of what makes this game worth playing. Now, if they halve legendary drop rates, we'd have something to talk about.

I couldn't begin to guess. I expect it to be a lot more diverse and interesting than a typical grind to the top that's for sure.

All I know is that Wyatt prefers seasons (so it may be less competition based) and also that he likes season specific items. :/

I think a good way to do ladder exclusive items, is to introduce the items for the season, and then when the season is over, add them to the base game. That way you still have incentive to join the ladder and go after them, but people who have no interest in ladders, could just wait a bit, and get the same access.

It's not ladders, and if it is, it's not just grinding EXP. Blizz could implement an XP grinding mode overnight.

Read this nifty thread. It should clear up the mystery of why 2h are rolling so badly.

posted a message on 2h Weapon Fix
There's been some huge misunderstanding between the CM and the community.

The bug fix he was referring to was this: http://i.imgur.com/B6ox8FI.png

The top range should be 1111. Sometimes you'd get well below that, in other words, 1hand damage affix. I had never even got this bug myself.

No, it doesn't make DPS massive, but it doesn't need to because 2handers function differently, and are still better in certain situations for various reasons.

Blizzard has created this problem themselves however with their sheet damage stat and the largest stat on weapons being it's DPS. Even if you could reason that taking a 2h would be better for you build, no one is going to do it, because it just feels better to take something where the game tells you in bright green happy numbers it's without a doubt better. There's also the issue that resource generation favors fast weapons.

Yeah, enjoying the loot hunt, but starting to get that same feeling I had on PTR: "Argh, this is all getting wiped soon!"

    It's torture.

I actually sold all my gear to fund RoS, so I got at least a bit more enjoyment out of the patch than most.

posted a message on What's the point of two handers?
2handers are for builds that don't rely so much on attack speed. While the upcoming change to 2h will make the DPS go up, and make everyone cheer, what it also means is that it will further improve their role in skills that do not consider attack speed. Because right now, there's a very small difference between using a 2h and a 1h with skills like Overpower and Rend, like 200 more base damage, which isn't that much, and for many is not worth the trade off.

You can't get worse than Loot 1.0. It was the worst itemization in the history of ARPGs. Just terribly, horribly bad. Complete trash.

Not to take away from Loot 2.0, which is quite awesome. But if you prefer that garbage 1.0, I have to question your sanity.

The skill system is every bit as complex as D2's. D2 you just put your points into the obvious skill (ones that did most damage) in D3, you have to think about synergy between skills (without a tool-tip!) There's a lot of trial and error that goes into fine tuning a build, you just don't have to re-roll every time you choose a skill. Rerolling isn't complex, but it is a nice waste of the player's time.

I wouldn't say either system is exactly complex, though. Just different ways of reaching the same conclusion. Being: Which skills will you use to kill monsters?

    Pre: WizardPost: Barb

I love the changes to the wizard, but the barb really feels like new territory now that the solution is no longer spin2win. The last two years, any time I played him, I felt bad because I wasn't running this build, but I am now liberated from this guilt!

There are definitely certain skills that are just flat better with dual wield, Ancient Spear being one of them. But I think Seismic Slam is a very two handed centric skill due to how it feels to use. You're creating a massive earthquake, and that swing. He only uses one weapon to do it, so might as well make it count, eh?

HotA kind of can go either way. I think WW is better with dual wield, especially if you can get procs on both weapons. It's weapon damage is also small enough that you're not seeing much difference between a two hand and one hand. There is some benefit to slower resource depletion with a 2h, but there's easy ways around that.

I think a lot of the WD DoTs benefit from two handers too, since there is no benefit to recasting it on enemies who already have a DoT.
