You could find a 1kish dps weapon for under a mil and it would absolutely make up for the loss in stats. The vitality might be a little bit of an issue if you're getting 2-shotted, but your health is much less an issue than is your various types damage reduction. Not sure what your build/playstyle is, but a lot of people are doing pretty well with attack speed and life on hit gear. Those are pretty huge factors for survival.
Yeah, A3 Hell is where it starts to be a good idea to group up... things might have 4x the health, but you do more than 4x the damage, plus there are the same amount of monsters so you get chased less than 1/4th the time =/
I didn't start sweating bullets until A3, that's when I decided it was time to skip to A1 inferno goblin farming where the only way to die is lag
lost my 38 DH, I ran around for 5 minutes, I think, then they got me. Haha. I Tried to teleport 3 times, once it was on 90%, but then I got hit. Elite pack mortars, got me and my friend. =) Dungeon in A2.

Gladly rerolling HC again, but here's my death story (not to QQ or anything).
I solo'd most of act 2 NM when I went across the bridge (you can see it on the map), then some big scary jailer + waller champions followed me from behind (which were off the screen). I ran around for like 3-4 minutes trying to find a way out, but I kept getting walled/jailed. Eventually all my stuff died, potions were on cooldown, etc. My screenshot makes me look like a tard for being backed into that corner, but the only reason I was there was because that was the only open space I could run to to get out of a wall spawned on top of me.
My fails:
-not having spirit walk (getting it really killed my damage output... but not getting it killed my character, ha)
-not checking the area around the bridge before crossing it to make sure I had an escape route
-going to sleep last night and having to go at it solo since my friends were 9 levels ahead of me when I woke up (now 52ish)
Hey, we killed Diablo on Norm. We started with 2 players (WD, Monk), picked up a Wizard in our mid 20's & killed Diablo in Norm @ 29/30 9hrs after we started our HC chars. We didn't do any farming or anything & just played the game straight through.
I'm just interested in hearing how everyone else is doing & what comps you're playing. Based on people I know it seems like smaller 2-3 man groups are doing a little better than 4, is that your experience? We're moving into NM when these servers come back up and hopefully we won't RIP
didn't they say that if you don't farm for equipments in Hell, you WILL die in inferno? if they rush through...heck i'd be surprised if they didn't die at hell, let alone inferno

That might be the safest way, but certainly not the most e-peen enhancing way.

- Played D2 (strictly HC) for 10+ years
- Been 99 on HC
- Been in first group to kill Hell Baal on HC after two ladder resets
- Have killed Uber Trist solo within 48 hours of a ladder reset, on Hardcore with only 1150 life
- Not a wuss (ie. I am not afraid to static field on day 1 ladder reset, go into Dury's chamber first, teleport to Baal with terrible gear, etc)
- Will have no real-life obligations (cell phone = off)
- Very focused and attentive
- Willing to play whatever class suits you
- Have played all classes to 13 on beta
- Will have healthy food pre-cooked and ready to eat at the computer
- Non-selfish/greedy, I thrive on doing the scary stuff that nobody else has done before, not on getting items
- I take risks but only when they're well-managed
- Have experience playing non-stop for 48 hours after a ladder reset
