The word 'splash' yields five results. My thread is one of them. 'modified splash' shows only my thread. And I wont even bother searching posts for "splash". Normally I would check first, but thats pretty impossible with all of the things that have gone on recently.
Perhaps someone will see it that hasn't yet. Otherwise, I dont really care.

Anyway, this is NOT official art. Someone did some edits to the splash image.
The last part still looks kinda cool tho, so I thought I'd post it here

You're quite welcome. Its hard to tell where the red actually is, as its hard to isolate it without isolating the white. Personally, I'm not so sure there is more red in the middle. I see alot of gray that could be interpreted as having a little bit of shade. What the shade is depends on the eyes that are looking at it. I'm speaking of the recent splash though. I dont have all of the other images.
When you stack them, its quite possible that most of the red is toward the center. I did see the figure in your image, I'd bet that it isnt intentional though. You never know with Blizzard though.

And because white has equal properties of color, it is displayed equally in all channels. In other words, when there is white on the screen, and you isolate the red channel, you aren't just seeing red, you are also seeing white.
There is red in the image, but no where near the amount that is suggested by the red channel.

wtf is that from? lmao
As for the image. I played around with it in Photoshop last night. Didnt save it, but it wasnt much better than what has been posted. The left character clearly *looks* like an A but the right one I would say is definitely not a B. It looks more like a G if anything. The bottom portion is curved at too much of an extreme to be a B. But I think this image might not display writing. Below the area that everyone is focusing on there is an element that is common in vine type designs. I think thats what everything is - artistic engravings. Something you may see on armor, helmet, or even just wall.
Point is, it most likely isnt a logo. Its probably just a highly magnified point, most likely on a significant image, but on an area that is certain to not give the topic away.

The actual trademark is the name that represents something. Artwork is only considered trademarked when it represents the name, otherwise it falls under copyright. As you said, colors can also be trademarked, as well as shapes/designs but its the word that these things represent that matters. And it doesnt matter what language the word is in, or what its true definition is.
It has everything to do with the reputation and knowledge of the word and its associated products within a given industry. In this case, it would be entertainment media. Being that Blizzard and its products are well known in the entertainment industry, including film, they have every right to claim ownership of that title in that realm, especially when its a high budged movie with a known action star.
If this were a brand of cereal, or a model of car, then they would have no claim, but it isnt.
Again, doesnt mean New Line or anyone else doesnt have a fight, but Blizzard certainly has one as well. And a strong one at that.

Not do drag this out, because its quite obvious they can sue, because they did... But I’m quite sure that’s incorrect. I’m not an expert on the issue, but I’m a graphic artist and work with companies on a regular basis that talk about it (I’m not envolved in that aspect however). Though I have done some browsing on the subject in the past.
The main issue is the consumer, not the company’s intentions (though intent can also be considered). If a company can prove that consumers will mistakenly assume the product is associated with something that its not, then that’s all they need. It doesn’t matter whether the offender intended this or not.
Granted the word is from a specific language with a slightly unrelated meaning (the actual word Diablo does not directly reference the game made my Blizzard) though as someone one else pointed out, that’s irrelevant. The word represents the game, regardless of its true meaning.
Being that this would be an American movie staring Vin Diesal (I think) and probubly have some action involved, its quite possible that people would mistakenly think it might have to do with the Diablo game, which means New Line could easily profit from Blizzards work, which would be un lawfull.
If this were a documentary or a religious movie made in Mexico, things may be different as the difference of topics would be more obvious.
New Line could also argue that the difference will be evident enough, but Blizzard certainly has grounds to take legal action.

Everything is speculation, and no matter what they say, we'll never know until an official announcement is made. But out of the three teams, the Starcraft one will be the first to decide whats next for Blizzard. The WoW team will have their hands full for a LONG time, and its safe to assume that the Starcraft team is further into development than Team 3, meaning their product will be released first, freeing them up, therefore allowing them to be first to decide on what to do next (most likely a Starcraft 2 expansion).
Anyway, by mentioning the Starcraft team with having the option of developing Warcraft (most likely due to what I said above) he has effectivley eliminated Team 3 from any possible Warcraft development...
Why? Because they are busy with something else...

If you watch the video, he seems a little surprised at the subject of the question. However, I dont think this has anything to do with what he may feel is a lack of activity, interest, or development. I think its just the fact that he is conducting a mostly Warcraft oriented interview, and when the interviewer said "all the fans keep emailing us, so I have to ask" I bet quite a few things went through his head about features that did or didnt make it into the expansion, and then he gets hit with a Diablo question. As obvious as the subject is to us, it may not have been to him at that moment, therefore surprised him.
Also, as 'closed doors' as Blizzard is, I doubt he would mention 'things in development', unless it was directly related to the question at hand, and he didnt have much choice but to mention it.
So this pretty much officially confirms, as officially as a confirmation will get before an announcement, that they are infact working on it. Blizzard is just the kind of company that does not publicly announce they are working on a game from day 1. They have a kick ass cinematic team that is recognized worldwide by the computer graphics industry, and their game development is obviously damn good as well. So when they do announce something, they dont want to just mention it and let the hype slowly roll along over the next few years. They want to hit you with an amazing short video that will hook you, and then rather than release a few trailers over the next few years during development, they immediately show you a working product, and let you see first hand what to expect. They like to start with a bang, and build ON TO IT, not start with nothing, and build up to it.
Cant blame them there. They'll announce it when they are ready.

Told ya...
Of course they have no comment... This is either a mistake (the kind of mistake that gets people fired), or a marketing ploy that they knew fans would pick up on and keep us talking until August.
This is just one more thing to throw into that large pile of hints and clues that Blizzard feeds us over time. Which is a good thing, because its one more thing that points toward a game. I dont think they would just be announcing a movie at a BlizCon (a gamers convention), and not a game...
