Quote from garnokReligion. Starting (flame)wars since dawn of time.
That's a pretty unsophisticated and even prejudiced meme.
I think people in general do this "since the dawn of time", whatever you mean by that. Proof? Look around: it's only rarely that a religious topic comes about, even on these forums, and yet you see people flaming each other all the time.
Likewise, pretty much any war that comes about doesn't have a strictly religious nature to it, but it's simply a part of the cultural differences among peoples that makes them perceive others as enemies. Catholicism in particular, however politicized it was allowed or forced to become in the past, actually believes in the universal brotherhood of men and the Pope acts extremely often, especially these days, as a mediator of dialogue and peace.
Different and deeply held convictions about the world, our place in it and how we are to live, are just a very meaningful basis for people to disagree about, but more often, even daily, they fight about pointless stuff that doesn't really matter.
I think religion matters and you have no right to pin wars on religions just because you think otherwise (because that isn't an accurate historical and anthropological understand of humankind's past). And because I refuse to stop caring about religion, like you apparently, you'll accuse me of making wars over it. Sorry, that just sounds like bullying and stigmatization and doesn't really stick.
