posted a message on What Should D4 Look Like? (when it comes out 15+ years from now)

So, I've seen a lot of people talking (by which I mean whining) about how D3 hasn't had any huge expansions recently, and these folks often talk about wanting D4. I want to know what people want from a new Diablo.

I've seen one ask for an MMORPG with Dark Souls-esque combat (which I think doesn't seem very Diablo-y, but that's me), and another ask for a more Borderlands approach (not even sure what all was meant by that, to be honest). And, of course, there have been many, many requests that the next Diablo take a more Skyrim style approach.

Personally, i don't like any of these, because it seems every RPG is either becoming Dark Souls, Skyrim, or something along the lines of Shadow of Mordor or Witcher. While I do like these games, I don't want the same five games in my library, all with slightly different skins. So, how best to keep what makes Diablo Diablo, while still progressing the franchise and being fresh? (and no, being fresh does not mean being D2. Again, great game, but we have it, we need not make it again and say it's new).

Personally, I like the idea of expanding the follower dynamic of D3. Not making it a party based game, but introducing some new aspects that will make having companions like the Templar or Scoundrel more interesting. Perhaps have them capable of equipping more stuff, having more abilities, and being more active in the story line itself.

Anyway, thoughts? What should D4 be?

posted a message on Let's try this again..making Diablo 3 competitive

So, a lot of these posts are focusing on leader boards, and comparing grift stats, and all of the sort of faff that makes me feel like my life has become exactly as terribly sad as my full chest with every DH set seems to indicate it is. I like the idea of D3 being more competitive, but leader boards just aren't satisfying, especially when compared to, say, the visceral joy of wrecking your friend's day by reducing them to a pile of red goo.

Honestly, I think some variation on the existent PvP to make it more than a match of "who can press the button fastest to get the first insta kill" would vastly improve D3 in terms of competitiveness. Perhaps have PvP focused gear, or directly change the stats so that defense exists (and considering it's still possible to insta kill a fully decked out barb or crusader as a dh with a well placed impale, defense buffs would be needed).

Just saying, I don't care about leader boards (scandal, I know). If I want to compete, I want the satisfaction of carving up little bits of my opponent, and serving it to them.

I've been wanting to work on a DH build that focuses on rapid shot, preferably with as many missle adding/augmenting peices as possible, but I haven't been able to play recently. What would be the best items to have in such a build?

posted a message on D3 Needs Custom Games- Photoshopped!

I like this idea. It could also be kinda cool when making a custom game to have the option of asking for certain roles/classes, so that the more hardcore people can have a balanced roster of support/tank/dps characters (like a WoW raid), or one could try to get varied classes, or all one class (running a full on Crusade can be fun, ater all).

posted a message on D3 duration and price

    I'm just gonna drop this here mostly as a reply to everyone saying the game is dead;

It's 5 years old, and still getting new content and regular updates. If you don't like the game anymore, then stop playing and leave the forums alone. If you think it's dead, then bury it and move on.

Now, on to whether or not you should buy it; yes. With expansion.

It's easy to find yourself playing hundreds of hours with a single class, even after the campaign, and moving on to other classes/building sets makes the game all the more replayable. Then there are a number of "secrets" that I found a lot of fun to track down, such as hidden levels, Easter egg items, and lore bits.

Further, the new Necromancer update is going to provide yet more content to massacre through, and bears the implication that D3 is not done yet, nor does it want to be. A number of people (myself included) theorize that this will be merely the first character pack, and that we'll be seeing new classes in the future.

All in all, it's a great game with prodigious longevity, and a lot of promise for the future. Well worth the cost.

posted a message on So much focus on item/skills used...why not so much when you use them

This is just something I've noticed as I've payed more attention to the D3 community; we spend hours discussing the sets, legendaries, and skill buffs, but we don't talk about how much order of use of skills can effect a build.

I wonder how much it might actually help a build. I've already found that a monk can get an Inna-like effect without the full set with a well timed lashing tail kick and a few other items, and I managed a near-constant RoA with DH with two bits of Nat's and the right quiver and a quick rotation of resourse spenders/builders

Has anyone else found some fun, powerful builds that rely on timing? I feel like these sorts of builds can lead to much more active, less mindless gameplay.

posted a message on What Your Most and Least Favorite Class?

I honestly haven't found a class that I couldn't have fun with once I founds some abilities I really liked. That being said, Demon Hunter is my favorite. I find it has some of the best ways to combo attacks (like using Vault to get into the middle of a group, then using Fan of Knives to kill them all at once).

There are so many ways to play each of the classes that it's hard not to find a set that suits your play style. I, for instance, love insta-kills and rapid movement. In DH I can do that with the above mentioned abilities, with the Wizard I can do it with a number of Archon builds, and I've been able to find ways to do it with just about every class I've played.

Anyway, that's just a long way to say, there are no bad classes. It's pretty easy to figure out ways to have fun with all of them.

posted a message on D3 Club for Xbox One

With the addition of Clubs to Xbox Live, there is (finally) an opportunity for D3 players on the One to group up and have the sort of community such as that which surrounds the game for the PC. I was wondering if such a club already exists, or, if it doesn't, then if there's enough interest to start one.

As one could assume, this would allow for meeting of like-minded Diablo fans who want to play with others for the sake of better loot drops or to power level a character. It'd also create a better sense of unity for the Console based D3 fan group. With the forums filled mostly with PC players, it's easy to feel a bit isolated. This would be a good way for us to actually become a more observable part of the community.

If you use the Xbox for your Diablo needs, please respond to the poll, and if there is enough interest and a club not already formed, I'll see what needs to be done to form a club, and post details on this thread.

posted a message on D3 on console better than PC?

I guess WoW fans are totally insane then? XD

In case you haven't noticed, it's not totally unprecedented to keep adding on to what should, in a traditional sense, be an old game. That's what they do for just about every current Blizzard game, it's what Valve does for TF2 and Dota, it's how Minecraft keeps me logging back on every few months, and it's what GTA was going to do until they realized they have enough money without expansions. At this point, that's just how the industry works.

More games that people would deem "old" are actually still fairly fresh in relation to other games that are still widely played. They've just fallen out of favor, or have a sequel come out that's taken precedent.

posted a message on D3 on console better than PC?

I agree, though some of the PvP exclusive things are going to have to be more focused on defense. I've played around with it a bit, and have noticed that the majority of the time, it's mutually assured destruction more than an actual battle. For instance, I use the full DH Shadow's Set, and my brother uses the Crusader Invoker set, which focuses on thorn damage, so I can kill him in a second, but more often than not his thorns damage will kill me, and if that doesn't then the haunt effect from the Band of Hollow Whispers will. Even if neither of us attack, we generally have enough passive damage dealers that we both die pretty quickly.

Either skill need to be nerfed, or defense buffed for PvP to work properly. Not sure whether this would be better done through PvP items that focus on balancing it, or direct stat changes (much like how they balance things out for apprentice mode).

posted a message on D3 on console better than PC?

I play console, and know a lot of other people that do, and we aren't what one would call "laid back", nor "casual". We spend a huge amount of time in rifts, working on completing builds and sets, and experimenting with our own strategies. In short; we play just like the PC crowd, only without seasons.

I agree, however, that console gamers are happier with D3, but not because they're casual. I bet it's partially linked to the same reason so many people love Halo 3; it was the first of the franchise they had played. While a lot of PC gamers remember with nostalgia the first two, most people playing on consoles have never played a Diablo game before, so they don't have terribly high expectations for it.

We also don't get a lot of great RPGs on console. We've got the Bethesda games, sure and Darksouls, but we've nothing that really gives the feeling of "I am a god, tremble thou foul demons before me" like Diablo does. It's really the only game we've got where we can just slaughter anything, and that's enough for us I guess.

There's also the fact that console RPG gamers just aren't as social. Our favored platform is filled with FPS's and sportsball games, which aren't super conducive to communities like Blizzard has for pretty much all of its games, so console gamers aren't very often motivated to use forums for most of the other games we play. Because we don't use forums as much, we don't think of going there when we have a complaint about a game. We just stop playing it.

I may be wrong, but this is what I've seen more often than not with console gamers.
