Since they haven't announced it yet, I'm guessing it is still a ways down the road til they say something similar for this site.

posted a message on Lack of news makes this game feel ... Dead.

A natural lifecycle of game I suppose.

Every game has their finite x number of years (months even) before it starts to fade. Dwindling playerbase and sparsely added new content are all both the causes and symptoms.

Less news and content are inevitable.

Personally, I think the goal of the upcoming Necromancer DLC is a move to maintain brand name relevance and not aim to re-energize the franchise. A filler episode until Bliz can officially announce the next title of the franchise.

So one can expect the current status of lack of news to continue for the months to come after Necromancer DLC.

That's the theory that games dwindle with time, but then you look at D3 competition like PoE, and you see a game that has a growing playerbase with every new league, because they consistently add content. I still jump between ARPGs, but honestly, this season I didn't see much reason to play D3 past 1 day to get the 3 pets, then I peaced out. PoE kept me going for almost 2 months and now I'm messing with Grim Dawn, and will probably also play D2 before the next PoE league.

I think D3 is essentially in maintenance mode. Even the big reveals at Blizzcon were pretty underwhelming.

If you want to play an ARPG game that has changes and growth, I'd suggest either PoE (new leagues with different mechanics every 3 months and a fifth act coming in the middle of the year) or Grim Dawn (released last year, DLC last year, new expansion this year). I think Blizzard just has more franchise that keep bringing in new revenue like WoW, Overwatch, and Hearthstone, so Diablo gets the red headed stepchild treatment since the franchise isn't still bringing in big bucks.

posted a message on Factors that killed D3

They made an endgame that is dull, repetitive, and fairly unrewarding with +5 mainstat being the primary reward, and they needed new content every season to keep things interesting. Then they stopped providing new content.

It wasn't at all surprising to me that population plunged this year without new content since, what, season 5 or 6?

Your original character may not have been a waste of time if you had fun playing it, but its so easy to level up a new character and get geared now that it wouldn't take much time to make a better character in seasons.

Only the ones that drop in games with other players. You can give or trade them to the other players in game.

They will, but it will require you buying the Necro class pack later next year.

Is it official that the Necro pack will get you past 10 tabs? I know you get 2 when you buy it, but if you are already at cap do you still get more?

There are a couple transmorgs too, I think they call it the Conquerors Set. You see that on the intro to Season 9 page at PTR. A fresh copy in will bring it up if you skipped it eariler. Other than shifting to a new class, it is a sleeper Season.

The conquerors set is also at Ch 4, right? I suspect much of 2017 will be a sleeper year until Necs launch late in the year.

What are the chapter 4 rewards, as those have varied from pets to other things. Also, I assume if you already have 10 stash tabs that the only thing you get after Chapter 4 are portraits?

Edit: NVM, I saw the pet in Bagstone's link. Looks like a quick season just to farm the pets.

posted a message on Make solo bounties viable please!

Nice idea, but Blizzard has a history of making the game insanely easier/faster with 4 people than solo, so I doubt anything will change. They want to force people to play a 4 man game.

Personally, I'd rather just play solo or with rl friends, and never touch a pug queue in my perfect game. Pug games just are more irritation than fun to me.

I don't have to make a better game. Grim Dawn and Path of Exile are already there. I just love the diablo franchise and have put in my fair share of time into the game since launch.

For a company like blizzard to not put in the time for one of their keystone franchises is just... really sad to me. Whereas PoE gets major content updates incredibly frequently for a f2p game, diablo and its players get... very very little. It's not about entitlement, it's just an expectation for the biggest videogame company to actually pay attention to a playerbase that has been there for decades.

Yep, it's not surprising that PoE has received more Twitch views than D3 since Gamescom with Grinding Gear Games making dynamic changes to their game while Blizzard seems content to sit on a stale gameplay. This almost reminds me of how the original DoTA, Defense of the Ancients, was designed as a Warcraft 3 mod, and Blizzard pissed away the whole MoBA genre through their inactivity. GGG, Crate and others are hitting the genre hard, and Blizzard is sitting back, fat and lazy.
