That thorns reflect is seriously making me rethink my build a tad.. Stack thorns on WD and use the passive that gives it to summons. I mean if a trash mob in inferno hits for 17k and you reflect 2000% thats well over 300k (this is rough estimate). Hopefully stacking thorns is a viable way to make summons inferno useful.

I'm pretty sure they're meant to be a solid number. 2000% thorns would be ridiculous.

2000 seems too low though. if you look at it 2000% is only the most elite of gear so maybe its not so farfetched. If you look it starts off pretty low and ramps up quickly through the last three tiers (the inferno ones). I know in the beta it was a flat amount (reflects 4-6 damage) but I know that you could also solo SK wearing only thorns gear so I am not sure if it means your/their dps + 4-6 or just 4-6. Guess we'll find out in 3 days.

EDIT: rethinking I think since the way it is worded (Attackers take +x damage) That it takes their damage and adds on however much then reflects that. So endgame it would take that 17k + 2000 making it 19k. Still a decent way to make your dogs/garg do more than the 9% or 15% of weapon damage (unless your damage is so high that 9% is 19k).

    Thanks for your response

    1) I choose firebats over those two for a few reasons, one is the mana cost, two is the range. Firebats is my main damage and spam ability so the lower the cost for the damage it does the better. Zombie charger (besides bears) does less damage and has a much shorter range. Acid cloud costs a ton of mana and does significantly less damage. although it has a decent aoe.

    2) Haunt vs Locust I've looked into. Haunt, 575% over 12 seconds = 48% dps. Locust swarm 360% over 8 seconds = 45% dps. Not much but still. I also prefer the rune choices on haunt over locust. I also highly doubt we will have thousands and thousands of mana to spend. If you look at the soul harvest runes, the life rerturn is 2171 per affected enemy while the mana is 39. Obviously mana will not reach into the thousands otherwise I would take Spiritual Attunement passive and be golden.

    3) I do not like horrify because I do not want enemies running away and potentially into my team. Also if you look at effectiveness Horrify and Mass Confusion are equally effective. Horrify 20 second cd, 4 second duration. 20/4 = 5. Mass confusion 60 second cooldown, 12 second duration. 60/12 = 5. I also prefer the rune choices on mc over horrify. CDs will hopefully be of little issue with grave injustice + items.

4&5) I really want my dogs to stay alive without me having to spam them when off cd. Pierce the Veil is great but I already am using lots of mana and soul harvest is granting me plenty of dps.

Thanks for your input I really like to see my build through fresh eyes and all your points were well thought out

Just looking for constructive feedback on my potential build.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#ceYdjT!TdZ!accZbZ

Basic ideas: Survivability and decent aoe/single target damage. Stay close to monsters and tank as much damage as I can for my team.

Firebats-Dire bats: Love it in the beta, and although vampire bats does more damage, I really like the line nuke aspect of it making it more of a controllable "aoe",

Haunt-Draining Spirit: I have no primary skill so mana will be very valuable to me. Also does great single target damage and spreads on its own. Throw about 3 out into a fight and let them work their magic while spamming bats.

Summon Dogs-Leeching Beasts: Great distractions and little bits oh health regen to keep me sustained.

Soul Harvest-Siphon: Great damage buff and a great heal since I have to get close to use it (and for one of my passives). Keeps me alive and my damage worthwhile.

Mass Confusion-Mass Hysteria: My oh shit button and also my CC. Distracts and stuns enemies and keeps them occupied if I get too focused. With Grave Injustice passive should be up quite often.

Gargantuan-Unsure of rune: Another tank distraction with decent damage. Mostly there to peel for me and teammates.

Passives: Zombie Handler + Jungle Fortitude: Used in combination to keep me and my pets alive since I plan on being in the fray.

Grave injustice: Provides everything I need to stay close and do damage.

Don't rage at any terms I use please. I just call things how I see them

Anyone notice how below the unlockes on the reveal site mainpage there is fire coming from the background. It looks like the demon statues are holding a chain to hold up the banner in front of the fire. It also looks like the top of a circle that you can see in the fire. Maybe its just part of the design but maybe its another secret reveal?

    Hmm

Edit Developer Diary 2 is up

Witch Doctor Summons build. Includes multiple types of damage and also offers lots of damage mitigation with plenty of life and mana regen. Not very good at single target but should excel at tanking mobs.

He is not talking to Leah she is having a vision.. I do not think he can actually see her there. She obviously did not just teleport to him. If so that thing really needs a longer cooldown.

"you thought you were so clever" is singular.. he is not referring to the heroes. "one by one our brethren fell into your trap" humans are not his brethren. He is definitely talking to Belial.

posted a message on Who are the other Lesser Evils?
    Prime evils: Diablo, Mephisto, Baal
Lesser evils: Andariel, Duriel, Azmodan, Belial

These seven evil represent the seven heads of Tathamet (or however you spell it).
As for the figures seen in the video, they are probably Azmodan's personal captains (or whatever ranks demons follow), which more than likely represent the seven deadly sins in and of themselves, since Azmodan is the Lord of Sin. This does not have to be true though, he can obviously command whoever the Hell he pleases :)

Azmodan also appears to be talking about Belial and how (the Lord of Lies) has found a way to deceive and destroy the prime evils + andariel and duriel. Since the heroes of Diablo 2 were the ones to do this, the person Azmodan is talking to had to be manipulating those heroes and also have a connection with Leah. All signs currently point to Cain but there are also other possibilities.

    POSSIBLE SPOILERS SO BE CAREFUL

In regards to my previous post of the demon being Belial and Leah being face to face with him (it).

    http://www.blizzplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/diablo-iii-book-of-cain-DiabloIII_01.jpg

From Blizzard's own site.. Maybe Cain is not so friendly after all.
Also I realize this book is supposedly from Cain so it may be conflicting.. it does confirm the demon though.

posted a message on Are WD's gonna be good at Soloing or PvP?
    Quote from xxX Tr0pHiC Xxx

    Quote from PancakesDF

From the looks of things the WD will be very good at PvE while sort of lacking in PvP. As for soloing, every class can solo in Diablo.. it is Diablo. Witch doctor is underwhelming at the start for sure but I am sure he will pick up later on. His strong points include multi damage (poison, fire, physical, arcane) and AoE/DoT. He lacks some good single target snares/stuns/slows and damage so will probably be a weaker pick for PvP. Just my opinions.

Also WD is my favorite so far so I am biased :).

Hmmm...ok. So it sounds like you have definitely played the beta then. What makes the WD ur favorite class to play so far? Just asking this bc I have been getting mixed reviews, seems like a lot of ppl really like the WD and a lot also hate him. So...

My lips are sealed but Witch Doctor is my favorite for a few reasons. One is the obligatory I played summoner necro in d2 and I got that itch. Also because I personally like to play cooperatively as opposed to PvP for the most part so he appeals to me in that sense. I also like to be able to sit in the back lines but still be a force that matters for the team. With AoE/DoTs and summons to tank, I can have lot going on while still sitting in the back row.

All in all Witch Doctor seems to be a love it or hate it class. He fits my personal playstyle, so I like him.
