posted a message on New Potential Build
    Quote from Cykoe

It's been quite a while since I've built my last rig (since 2007 actually) and I could really use some advice. I'm going to be starting from scratch besides the HDD since I have a spare 1TB from my last rig laying around somewhere. I'm aiming for something that will pretty much play D3 as maxed out as I can get it, and just a few others like SCII and maybe Skyrim, but with the potential to be future-proof for a bit. Besides the cost, my only worry is getting the wife to actually say "yes". :P

    COOLER MASTER HAF 932 case
    ASUS M5A99X EVO
    Radeon HD 6950
    OCZ ZT Series 750W
    AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz
    CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Any criticism is much appreciated. Like I said, I haven't built a new rig in quite a while, so your guys help is much appreciated!

I think going for a sandy bridge processor like an i5 - 2500k for overclocks will be very nice....of course you mobo will need to change with that and there are plenty to choose from. I have the MSI p67-gd65 and this rig rocks. I have a 6950 and it rocks...did not unlock to a 6970 tho :(. I think 16gb of ram is overkill unless you are doing video editing. 8gb will save you money and be more than enough and you can always add later if you find out you really need it. I built a rig for the same reason, to play d3 and now its almost a year old :( However, I can run any game max settings and get a stable 60 fps, cause thats all i really want, as my monitor is only 60hz...I hate screen tearing so I always use vsync. I can post my build as well:

I built my system for recently for the exact same reason....D3! My parts are as follows and what I paid (after rebates in the US):

    CPU - i5 2500k - $230
    Ram - 8GB PNY Optima - $47
    MB - MSI P67A - GD65 - $180 (more than i wanted to spend...supply and demand)
    PSU - XFX 850W Black Edition - $90
    HD - OCZ SSD 90GB and 2TB Hitachi - $160
    Case - Antec 902 - $75
    GPU - 6950

so about $900 right now, and I have about the same budget as you. I have monitor and I did buy a 3pack of windows for machines in my house. I did get an aftermarket cooler, the Corsair A50, but was only $10 so nothing big there. You can find the Cooler Master 212 for around $20 -$25 at times, so if you want to overclock, wait for a good deal on that, as it does real well with the Sandy Bridge.

What's wrong is their real motive is to increase WoW activity and subscriptions, not to promote Diablo 3. This promotion is definitely not intended for the active WoW subscribers already plugged into the system. The people who came up with this idea could not possibly care less about the current reliable revenue sources (aka humans paying monthly for WoW).

People are going to have a year's worth of WoW time, which will divide the community, not create a smooth transition from WoW to Diablo 3, which is how they are masquerading this move.

In reality, a transition from WoW to Diablo 3 is the exact opposite of what they want. They want potential Diablo 3 customers to subscribe to a year of WoW.

    See it now?

    Why do you even care?

I don't get it. If people play Diablo 3 and it's good, they'll keep playing it. Who cares if they get it discounted through WoW or not?

Good lord man, you act like they are taking a shot at your manhood or something. It's a freaking video game. If it is fun, people will play it. The people doing this likely would have bought D3 and/or WoW anyways... now they just get both.

So really, who cares? It's totally irrelevant.

My contention is that it's NOT totally irrelevant. My objection comes down to this: I want Blizzard to let WoW die, because
    1. It will strengthen in numbers and longevity the Diablo 3 player base
    2. In the long run they will be able to focus more resources on their future releases, and not an IP which is dead to me and a growing number of gamers.

So yeah, PLEASE EXCUSE ME for objecting to something on principle. My opinion doesn't match yours, but why are you so offended by that? Blizzard's not gonna change their policy, but I'm practicing my right to free speech.

Read the following carefully: I am not trying to change your mind. I am expressing my opinion. If you want to try and change my opinion, give me sound logical arguments or rebuttals of my premises, without the personal attacks. Your lack of meaningful rebuttal lead you to the tired ad-hominem implication that I'm having some kind of e-peen problem, when actually it's you who seem to have a butt full of hurting.

tell the 9 million+ people still subscribing it is dead! the numbers dont lie and your opinion does not matter to blizzard to be honest. They HAVE to have money and if WoW fails, so be it...but I assure you that ALL Blizzard games have the potential to be the cash cow they need it to be if the issue arises. They take their time cause they can and it creates better games. Think back to other hurried failed attempts to steal Blizz thunder. Age of Conan, Hellgate London, Aion.....SWTOR??? we shall see on that one. There will be plenty playing D3 and if will get the support it needs, they just need to make sure that their products are designed, supported and prepared for longevity as all their titles have that allure about them. To me, non-issue...lets move on as this is the ONLY move they could have done to protect themselves from themselves.

Really, I'm indifferent about how Blizzard approaches there fan-base and market strategies, as long as I get the game I want. =)
    Same here B)

Third that. I will be using the auction house and proud of it. I am THRILLED they are internalizing this. I have used D2items.com many times and always felt shady for doing so...now, its in the game and the market will be a little better IMO as there will be WAY more cash sellers than just a few legit shops. Also, WoW is a product they want to keep alive and thriving so why not offer this promotion? Its no different than videocard companies throwing in free games with new graphics cards...incentive to choose this over that...really simple. I also want the community to be as large as possible and this is a great way to do so....believe me, being a 30yr old Diablo fan since the first offering, I can say that the younger crowd will get hooked to the loot and gambling feel to this game...its seriously like crack...the good kind, not that hood shit. :)

I have done a lot of research to find the best mouse for my "grip style" and ended up getting the Logitech G9X. I tried the Cooler Master Sentinel and HATED it! I like this mouse as it has decent amount of buttons and fits my grip rather nicely...plus it has different faces you can add to make it more adjustuble to other grips as well. From what I hear, the RAT 7 is very customizable and nice as well....not sure why I posted all this but yeah...fingertip grip for me! :)

Please post more items or full sets spec'ing certain affixes, etc. (Like the precision build) This is the best reading I have done all morning and realized its not a new post. God this makes we want the beta so hard..lets hope there is some validity to the 1/17/12 release date on that blog image regarding BlizzCon or has that been confirmed fake?

Its a 33,33333333 procent chance they are right.. Thats really good odds!

Edit: Sorry 25% chance ;) Still its a good shot!
That's IF it doesn't get pushed back again. Because, lets be honest, that's totally possible (especially with Blizzard we're talking about here). My brother keeps insisting June/July release and I'm going with March. Loser has to buy the other their copy of Diablo 3 :P
