posted a message on super ancient idea

It would fit in perfectly with all the other RNG systems already in play. Why not add one more.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of it. When it works for you, it makes you feel awesome and super powered, but when it doesn't, you feel like you're behind everyone else who got lucky. Like rolling the perfect Ancient weapon with ideal stats, high base damage and max affix. You either get lucky or your progress gets soft capped. That's what this looks like to me.

posted a message on Removal of order on bounties

The system isn't broken so it doesn't need fixing. It's working as intended, aside from lacking misclick prevention. It's a pointless grind, but so are many things in the game, like requiring low grift runs to level up gems or running a rift solely for the grift key at the end.

The order system is in place to randomize the feature and get people doing the content without mindlessly grinding one act over and over. If they remove the order, then people would go back to farming one act. A better solution is to implement bounty counts on the UI, maybe a big indicator with completion status in the top middle so everyone knows where they should be progressing instead of checking the map. Have the UI only appear If you join a bounty run through the adventure mode option, or pop up after the first bounty in a zone is completed. If a bounty is done in the non-bonus zone, it should clearly state on your screen where the bonus is.

Make the progress checker only appear in town. Make it big, noticeable and in your face; annoying enough that if you want to get rid of that screen clutter you need to complete the bounty.

posted a message on Keep the traditional isometric perspective or try something new?

I don't see a reason to. Blizzard does what works, but the change has to be warranted.

World of Warcraft was made because Everquest was something they thought had potential and they could do a better version of, not because Warcraft RTS needed to be evolved. If Diablo has to evolve its camera positioning, then it has to be to support some core game design element, not just because it looks cool or different.

Kinda like Resident Evil games, how it changed from being static positioned horror genre into more action gameplay controlled by a character; the change was made to support the gameplay. I don't think Diablo necessarily needs that kind of change unless they really want to bring back the original atmospheric horror style. They risk giving up practically everything else by doing that. The fast-frantic powergaming aspects wouldn't translate in a 3rd person over-the-shoulder view. This view is best for a slower paced action game that doesn't clutter the screen with spell effects and hundreds of enemies/pets at a time.

posted a message on Expansion, possibly new game in the works...

Like I said, they could reply to a different tweet that didn't imply a huge announcement. They shouldn't have responded to that particular question with a message that undoubtedly hypes things. The criticism of devs not talking to the community has nothing to do with Community Managers teasing new content.

Again, I'm perfectly happy with the Necro reveal. I'm just pointing out that the reason people are underwhelmed (not disappointed) is because it was overhyped. As cool as the Necro pack will be, no one expected it to be anything less than an Expansion or Sequel.

To be fair, I think they hyped it up too much through their ambiguous responses.

When someone tweets 'I really hope this year Diablo gets a huge announcement at Blizzcon' and the official Diablo twitter replies "Blizzcon will be really cool this year :-)", a Necro pack and D1-inspired dungeon isn't exactly what people expected.

Then it loops into people overhyping things.

The tweet said "cool" not OVER THE TOP FUCKING AWESOME WORLD BREAKING CONTENT!!!!

Yes, which I think Blizzard shouldn't have responded. If there's any tweet to reply to, don't ambiguously confirm the one assuming a 'huge announcement' .

Oh no doubt. I'm totally looking forward to the Necro and I thought the announcements are awesome. Generally speaking though, not a lot of people would consider this a 'huge' announcement, especially when people were already pining for an expansion or sequel. Realistically speaking, many already expected it wasn't going to be that big, but that doesn't mean they weren't hoping for it, especially if Blizzard was confirming 'something cool' and keeping those hopes high.

posted a message on [Suggestion] Optimistic idea for Paragon update.

Well it also snapshots that character and build, so it means you aren't really doing any progression on your own character. I really don't know how challenge rifts will work in the long run, because I can see it being a fun distraction but ultimately I want to work on my own character, not just play random builds that get picked out of Blizzard's system.

posted a message on [Suggestion] Optimistic idea for Paragon update.

I think Paragon should stray away from well rounded stat boosts and focus in on character/build flavouring instead. It can still revolve around stats, but don't allow all stats to be maxed out. Gate them like a talent tree system, forcing you to dedicate in one branch of specialization. Reward unique 'Perks' for having certain stat combinations.

Resists are separate categories; Fire, Lightning, Arc/Holy, Frost and Poison. Other stats include Dodge, Armor, Block, Life Regen, etc. Perks (unique bonuses) can be awarded after reaching certain stat requirements. Some powerful perks might come with a pt cost. There may be a limit on the number or total value of perks you can get as well, like only 1 Immunity or only 5 Perks max.

    * None of these examples are balanced in any way *

50pts Poison Resist - 5-second Poison Absorb proc when you take over 30% health damage from Poison.

75pts into Poison Resist - Full immunity from Poison (limit 1 Immunity) - or - Provide a Poison Resist aura

50pts Life Regen 75 Poison resist - Heal when taking damage from Poison

25 resist in each element - Bonus 10% to all resists, 10pt Perk cost to unlock

50 block 50 Lit Res - Doubles block amount of Lightning element -or- release Charged Bolts every time you block

Perks would be like a mini Talent system that would make stat allocation a bit more interesting and help support builds as well. If you are a ZDPS build, Resist Aura perks helps ally survivability. If you are a gimmick build that uses element procs, then you want more proc perks. If you just really hate one type of Element without wanting to use the immunity amulets, then feel free to specialize your Paragon Perks to have it. There will be some obvious overlaps with some Legendary effects, but stacking immunities and stacking proc effects is part of the min-maxing that makes Diablo fun anyways.

posted a message on Future Character Packs

I doubt any story content will be made. It makes it difficult to tie in any DLC singleplayer content with the multiplayer.

I mean do you make a singleplayer only act that gets played only once? Do you unlock a new DLC act for multiplay that only paying customers get access to? Do you make the multiplayer aspect free and only charge for the singleplayer (which begs the question - why not just make a new expansion). I think what we get now moving forward is only character packs and more multiplayer stages, minimal story content if any.

posted a message on Perspective from Diablo fan at Blizzcon

Hype expectations are very hard to meet. It's kind of a double edged sword whenever that happens, and I prefer it when Blizzard surprises us rather than try to hint at something that will never be as big as what people expect it to be. But if they never hype things up, people end up overlooking the announcements too. Look at Starcraft, very little attention was given to it and even my Starcraft friends didn't know of the new Co-op commander and 3rd Nova pack mission. It all goes under the radar.

I think something like D3 expansion would have been great, but we kinda knew it wasn't going to happen considering how long its been and with the loss of a couple key D3 developers. D4 announcement would have been fabulous, but it also signs the death certificate on D3 if announced this early. Even if D4 was years away and only in pre-development, people would be focused on that and overlook a lot of D3 anyways knowing where the Dev's focus is on. I think they're working on D4, but keeping it a secret prevents people from jumping to conclusions. It prevents spoiling a movie by talking about its sequel. They want people to stay invested in D3 and not just sit and wait for D4; and some of this content they revealed is indicative of that. Of course it's not D3 expansion worthy of an announcement, but like I said it's probably because they're actively working on D4 early development.

posted a message on So, how do you feel?

it's 75% of 125 people on an enthusiast forum, where expectations and hype run wild. I don't think it's indicative of the playerbase as a whole at all, considering most D3 players I know don't go to discussion forums, rather they use sites like these to find optimal builds and play.

An expansion would've been cool. D4 would've been cool. I don't think we should downplay what we're getting just because neither of them were announced. D4 especially, since they could easily be working on that while these minor class updates are just filler content to keep D3 running. By all means, we could have had nothing for D3 at all and have it left in maintenance mode.

posted a message on Not Flame but....the Diablo stuff isn't over yet @ Blizzcon2016

    Lackluster for who though?

Most D3 players don't have overhyped expectations over the game. It's been slowly crawling into maintenance mode, and the announcement of Diablo 4 would only kill it further. On top of that, a D3 expansion would still be years away if announced, and I don't think people can last that long here if what you said about Twitch viewership means anything.

Diablo 1 revamp hits this year, Necro next year. Even if you aren't gonna play the new hero, it's going to revitalize the community without a stupidly long wait.

posted a message on New Class DLC - Necro just the beginning?

Well how much is an expansion pack that adds a new character? $50? And how much content would we consider that, since the campaign is usually something you just do once or twice for the story?

$15-20 to me is reasonable for a discounted 'Expansion Pack' that cuts out the story content and new enemies. The latter seems to be given to us for free over time anyways. Of course, I'd prefer a full expansion pack, but it doesn't seem like Blizzard thinks sales will be lucrative enough to push out another package product. This DLC fits way better to hitting their demographic who wants the content without having to wait years for a full expansion pack to be made.
