I had my laptop hard drive replaced a couple of weeks ago and the sales person told me clicking and scratching sounds
are the primary indicator for a dying or dead hard drive :S So that may well be your performance problem...

hmm not good news lol i better look into that then soon. at least theres nothing important on that drive, i have windows installed on a seperate one. im fairly sure i know which drive it is.

Yeah very smooth FPS for me except for the one instance right before the SK when the 4 pillars are summoning skellies. That part slows to a crawl for me every time. Not sure if it's PC FPS or server lag, but there's a lot going on.

fps is solely reliant on your pc, if it was lag you would have the stuff like rubber banding, standing still while trying to run, etc

I ran the beta with outdated drivers (I got a screen saying my drivers were outdated - Geforce 8800 GT) and a E6500 duo @ 3Ghz. Although I was scared for performance issues, the game ran as smooth as a baby behind on its first day.... I did set the physics on low, but thats all. I did not have a single stutter, freez or glitch and that is very rare, more so with an unoptimized beta! I am extremely in awe with blizzard atm....

i also got this message when i tried to install the beta on XP, thats why i had to change to windows 7, then i didnt get the message. interesting that regardless of drivers people are having different results. also, the 8800 is a fairly old card at this point (although it has always kicked ass, played crysis on max at release iirc), while the 560 i have i only bought a few months ago. i highly doubt the difference in fps between my game and yours is due to the difference between 2.6ghz and 3ghz, so im at a loss :( maybe its my hard drive dying or something. it does make loud scratching noises, which can probably be interpreted as writing on the wall.. but i dont know how that would affect fps

But what kind of dual core ?
All dual core aren't the same. Core I3 are MUCH more powerfull than core 2 duo even though the number of Mhz is smaller (a core i3 2.5ghz >>>>>> core 2 duo E8500 3+ ghz).
And if it's an AMD platform it's worse, AMD CPU's are one generation behind Intel...

i didn't know that an i3 was still a dual core honestly, i have a e6600 core 2 duo 2.6ghz , i could overclock it to 3ghz which i have done before but i think i turned it back because of overheating. i sort of know that intel>amd in raw power and efficiency, while a lot of people talk up AMD saying its great value for money, or whatever, i generally just go by benchmarks on tomshardware or hardwarekanuks for that stuff. i feel no shame for my old cpu, it has gotten me by xD

+2 on those things. except number 1. Im getting 120+ FPS,

Have you updated your Direct X or graphics drivers? That sounds like an odd problem.

i mentioned i bought windows 7, i did a fresh install of that before installing the beta, first thing i did was grab the latest drivers (even mentions diablo3 in the info for the drivers), and i beleive directx11 comes preinstalled with win7, but to be sure i did google directx and downloaded the launcher/downloader thing, along with the other stuff i always download after a format (utorrent, winrar etc). so i am fairly certain the comp is as prepared as it can be for d3.

Lol it's not crazy dat ur FPS sucks in the beta.
You realize that it's a beta without any optimization.
But did you also know you'll atleast need a 2.8ghz dual core to run diablo properly?
So yeah ur stats are a bit on the low side.
And i can run arround the beta with 60/100/120 fps no lag or anything.
So it's not totally the beta's fault

its impossible to tell *exactly* what you need to run the game well, its not like anything under 2.8ghz is fail, what if i had a crazy good video card and 1600+fsb RAM, that would help out. but i do realise the cpu is fairly old, however i don't think thats whats bottlenecking my fps, because the fps drops are consistently when video /particle effects fill the screen. I have read plenty of threads where people are saying they are getting 100+fps on systems not too disimilar from mine, which is annoying lol. also, i did mention in my post that i understand the problem with the beta being unoptimised, or perhaps you were quoting what i said. anyway, i will still wait and see, i don't want to have to buy a new cpu if i dont absolutely have to, shits expensive man. also, in my experience, buying something new for my pc leads to buying 3 other new things just to get that 1 thing running -.-

these are just some things i noticed while killing sk with every class, i havent hit 13 with everyone yet, probably won't get to before open beta ends, but thats ok im just happy to have played it.

    1- FPS is shit.
i am aware its an unoptimised beta, so i'm hoping the retail adds at least 10fps or more to what i'm currently getting. i just dont see how my laptop (which runs mass effect 2 on medium ish settings fine, and WoW on ulta at 60fps) cant handle the beta AT ALL on minimum settings, i couldnt get to town, the 5fps was just too bad. I had to buy windows 7 and upgrade my XP desktop just for the open beta, and even on that computer i only get maybe 20 fps at best, much worse in large fights (running nvidia 560 SE, 3.5gb useable ram, 32bit windows 7, 2.6ghz dual core). i am holding out on upgrading my tower until the retail copy comes out and i can do some proper testing, but i was expecting a little smoother fps. we shall see.

    2-Playing is not watching.
having watched many many youtube videos of beta, various patches etc, i can safely say that until you play the game, you shouldn't bitch about certain game mechanics. Like stat allocation for one, i did not even think about stat allocation while playing, i was too busy HAVING FUN. everything from the ui to the skill distribution seems very nice, and makes the game very easy on the eyes. I can't really explain what i mean very well lol, but i'll just say that those of you who might be boycotting the game for whatever reason, (ITS NOT DIABLO 2, OMG ITS LIKE WoW, BLIZZ RUINED THE FRANCHISE, whatever the fuck else), try the game first, you will be surprised how amazing it is.

3- no idea which class i'm going to play
every class has a unique feel, all feeling super powerful with their own strengths and weaknesses and quirks. I played every class to at least lvl 8, and i still havent decided who i will play at retail, its just too hard lol. leaning towards WD or barb or DH, but thats still 3 to choose from..

    4- items are perfect.
from the amount that drop, to the stats on them, the look, i love it all. couldnt be happier with itemisation, can't wait to see what its like late game.

    5-graphics/tone/theme
the feeling of the game is awesome, its gory, its dark, but its colourful in the right ways, its got fog, but its not silent hill, its got explosions but rather than fire its energy and gore. everything is just awesome.

d3 feels like the evolution of d2, rather than a carbon copy sequel (think CoD). the things they changed i think they changed for the better. if i have one complaint, or thing that i would change, and its only small, is that the skill ui is trash lol. i remember seeing a thread semi-recently where somebody threw up a mock screenshot of what the skill ui could look like, with a spellbook style tab on the left half of the screen, and a list showing every skill all on one screen, and an extendable tab with runes next to it. it looked sexy, and much better than the current ui which fills up the whole screen for no reason. Yeah they didnt want people running around with the skill tab open, but there are plenty of other ways around that. I hope they change it up before or shortly after release, but even if they don't, meh, your only in the menu for a few seconds at a time.

no idea if anyone bothered to read this, i just thought i was post my thoughts to contribute.
    /end horrible wall of text.

i have a vaio E series laptop, 1.7gh (sony douchebags masterlock the BIOS, i cant overclock in any way (fml)) quad core, 4gigs of ram, video is apparently ati radeon 5000 series, i can play mass effect 2 on medium-low settings at 30 fps, i can play minecraft at 50fps, i can play WoW at 60fps smoothly. i just turned the beta on for the first time, it runs like shit, im getting 5 fps, any idea why? very disappointing

    You don't get it people.

The guy has a lot of time, when people in general don't, so he asks for a system that rewards gear through time spent so he will be able to claim himself better than others simply by having a lot of free time.

A system that allows to buy from people who have time (or insane luck) will put him back to a random unknown guy state, which he doesn't like much.

TL/DR : he asks for a system that allows him to shine thanks to the only thing he has over others : free time

i shouldnt dignify this with a response, but i have been sucked in to it. You don't know me, you can't presume shit about me. I wouldn't play any more than any other diablo fan, i can't beleive you are even making that argument, what a dickhead. You completely ignore my points and go straight to insulting me in a condescending way. these forums are for presenting opinions, if all you have to say is opinion bashing, then you are cancer, and should go jump off a bridge. thanks.

i will probably pick wizard, then upon my first death, rage at being a squishy and build a barb. Then i'll get sick of melee and try dh. I will get bored because its not flashy enough and pick witch doctor. I will die because the mechanics are weird and i will try monk. i will like the aoe damage so much i go back to my wizard. !!!!! this is seriously what i will do i know it

tbh the only reason i buy game guides is for the pretty pictures, the smell of a new book, and the look of it on my cupboard, i cant think of any reason to buy one unless you are new at gaming in general, the tips are usually useless except for complete noobs :/ this isnt true for games that require guides obviously, like an rpg, or game filled with secrets, but guides for things like WoW are generally shit, you can get all the info u need on the net. SO in conclusion i would like to see lots of pretty pictures, well formatted tables containing useless but interesting information that u can read while you are on the toilet.

Except you farm money IRL. It's called a job. It's just as monotonous as continually slaying monsters over and over.

How is it cheating? The items aren't in circulation until they're found. A person has an option to

    I) Keep the item
II) Give it to a friend
    III) Sell it for gold
    IV) Sell it for money
    V) Destroy it

None of those are in any way cheating. Cheating is acting dishonorably or doing something unfair to give you an advantage.

Everybody has access to real money. If you can't afford it - don't bitch at others. It's not our fault you landed the job you're in, knocked up a woman and had 4 kids sucking child support from you, etc. It's asinine logic.

im 20, and i have a job, i could pay for it. that's got nothing to do with my opinion on the RMAH lol. Also i never personally attacked anyone, i was arguing my opinion without going all ad hominem, which everyone has done to me. I hear what you are saying about item circulation and how the item has to go somewhere, like i said earlier, im all for trading, i just think real money shouldnt be brought into it. it gives an unfair advantage to the person who buys it. unfair because another person (not saying its me...) might not be able to afford to buy any good items, and a rich guy can. In my mind, buying it for money is cheating. i know some people agree with me, i dont care if there arent, and i dont care that people disagree with my opinion either, im posting this to produce discussion on D3 and provide the forums with another opinion. im not mad at anyone for anything they have said at me either, just saying. I like that conversation can get so heated over such a trivial topic, says a lot for Diablo lol

posted a message on To those of you saying Inferno was nerfed!!
this is awesome news, the harder the better, anyone complaining about it being too hard can just drop back to an easier difficulty until they can handle it, if it was too easy it would plateau and then there would be nowhere to go. I plan on hitting a high level with every character, then picking one to max out and working towards getting the best gear i can with that toon, grinding my way through inferno pack by pack. i love hard games im a sucker for dark souls atm too, still playing through that. i had forgotten what its like to play a hard game. We have all been spoiled with 'games' like uncharted. Great game, zero difficulty.

How are people not understanding this.

    etc.

White knight mode activated much? its my personal feelings and nothing you said changes my mind, if you think its an ego problem, then maybe it is, i dont really care lol. The way i see it, if you buy an item off the RMAH, you didnt earn it. you could make the argument that the money they spent, they probably earned, and by extension they earned the item, but its too disconnected IMO, whats in the game is in the game, bringing real money into it gives people advantages that they normally wouldnt have. Ding you hit 60, you pay 30 bucks, have full gear. that is just shit IMO lol.
I frequent this site a lot, i have read pretty much every blue post worth linking since D3 was announced, i have an (i would say) intimate understanding of the philosophies behind D3's development. I get that if the RMAH didnt exist, third party sites would crop up just like D2jsp and it would happen like in D2, which i don't want. i do understand that its pretty much required that Blizz added the RMAH to counter this. What i am saying is that IN. MY. OPINION. the people who are going to use the RMAH (buying or selling, but im talking about buying atm) aren't earning those items. The same way it was shit that people bought off D2jsp, its shit that they are going to buy off this. Its a pointless argument in that nothing can stop the greed and impatience of people, they will find a way to cheat items. I am all for trading items for other items, or gold, because its artbitrary, you can go farm items and gold. not everyone has RL money to spend on digital items.

i suppose it's one of those things that will be better in retail than in beta, they have mentioned that the build they are running in shop is not the same as what's in beta, so maybe that's part of it. Blizzard usually has pretty good sound design, and they clearly are making an effort to make the sound great (they bothered to bring back Matt Uelmen for the music).
