I don't think level really factors into it at all. Being low level doesn't mean your character isn't already a badass. From act 1 you're taking on some pretty awesome monsters in large groups... the number next to your name doesn't change that. Having to wait until level 60 to use them is just a pointless delay, and wouldn't help anyways; the bad players who have them will still be bad.

They are clearly refering to storage space, not the number of database requests.
Not necessarily true. They evaluated the storage we'd be likely to need per account, and reduced it such that the number and complexity of database queries resulting from that stored data would be more managable.

And besides, it Twitter can solve that, shouldn't Blizz be able to? ;-)
The better question here is "does it make sense from a financial standpoint for them to do so?" For Twitter, that's all they do, so it's fix it or die. For Blizzard, it probably makes a lot more sense to give us a good compromise between storage space for users and cost to them, both in development and hardware.

Also, I'd be shocked if they didn't want to have "More stash space!" as a feature of their expansions, so they have to set the eventual goal and scale back from it for initial release, to have room for the future expansion.

It does exactly what it's intended to do.
...which is cause threads like this to come up, and cause disagreement in them.

Therefore, I disagree. It's not doing what it's intended to do!

    Which means... my head hurts.

I dunno, him and I just have a different theory of what deserves to be spotlighted. It appears to me that he sees anything and everything as being frontpage-worthy (the classic Flux-style!) whereas I didn't like that approach. To me, anything and everything is what belongs in our forums, the frontpage should only be used for important/big announcements and editorials... Just a different style is all, not that either one of us is "right" or "wrong," ;).
I for one appreciate the "highlight everything" approach. It used to be that I'd visit the site once every few days, see the same front page post, and that was the end of my visit. Forums tend to be a mixed bag on most internet sites, this one included, so I rarely visit them (though I clearly have today!). It's nice to have something fresh on the front page as often as possible- it makes the site seem like an up-to-the-minute news source rather than a mostly static lump of text.

No offense Magistrate, but you really come across here as not knowing what you're talking about. You claim characters should be level 11-13 when they fight the skeleton king? Try 6-7. The only reason anyone higher than that is fighting him in the beta is cause there's nothing else to do.

And yes, a level 1 character wearing level 13 gear is going to outclass a level 7 fight. Duh. The only thing opened up by levels now is different skills to use, and a fight this simple requires no more strategy than "run away when he's gonna spin". Gear is everything.

I dont ask open-beta for millions, but if there is no 20-50k active players, there is not much public/infrastructure testing going on.
And if there's not much public/infrastructure testing going on, that means that they're not ready for it yet. No point in inviting a ton of people if useful testing can't start until the new hardware is in. This isn't some advertising campaign- it's a test. When they're ready for large numbers of people, large numbers will get in.
