I think the negatives (map on the far right, chat on the far left, action only in the middle) outweigh any potential benefits that this gives. Peripheral vision isn't really necessary in a diablo game, as enemies at long ranges aren't very dangerous.
Where do you get the idea that you have any say in what "is Diablo" and what isn't? Diablo 3 is a commercial venture by Blizzard Entertainment in order to generate profit, they own the IP they own all of the previous generations and therefore it is entirely up to them to decide what "is Diablo". If you don't like it then don't use it, it's just a game mechanic, but one I'm sure people will generally approve of.
You've got to be kidding us . . . the GeForce 200 series was released over three years ago. The problem here isn't with the game or its coding, the problem is with your *seriously* outdated hardware.
