posted a message on Runic Revision?
A thought for the grey unattuned rune that would roll a random color when inserted (if that was what JW was talking about.) Would that mean there is only one kind of level 7 rune able to drop? Let's say the droprate is 0.1%. Would not the droprate be 0.1%/5 if there were 5 kinds of level 7 runes (crimson, alabaster, indigo etc.) and the chance for you to get the level 7 crimson rune for your skill be the same regardless of system?

I like the way PantheraOnca compared runes to charms or rings in D2. The major difference here is you chosing what skill it will be attuned to.

Have to admit I too am a gambler and like stuff to be random. Makes for a larger satisfaction when I get the combo I want. Alot more fun than knowing exactly what to get and where to get it like bosses in WoW. Having a boss with supposedly 20% droprate not drop a certain loot 20 times in a row is extremely frustrating. In diablo however you never have such hopes but instead get overjoyed when something cool DOES drop. I still remember having a smile on my face for a whole day first time I found that unidentified swirling crystal in the early D2 days ;)

    A bit offtopic there, soz

@Simply7 I suppose that real name for attuned rune is "Magic Missile indigo rune" that means, that skill has 2/3/.../8 missiles. And so on.

So what we’re thinking about doing is essentially having runes dropped Unattuned, which means they’re kind of grey and generic, they don’t actually have a type. And then you pop them into a skill, and when you do that, the rune attunes to that skill; you can still remove the rune freely whenever you want, but now that rune is not an Indigo rune, it is a Magic Missile splitting rune

It sounds to me that he looted an indigo rune that was unattuned but when you put it into the skill magic missiles it became "magic missile splitting indigo rune".

Furthermore when he says that you have plenty of lvl 1 runes to "experiment on" that makes really no sense if it would be completely random. Because no matter how much you experiment on lvl 1 runes you will never know which of the 5 "rune-classes" you will get with a higher level rune. On the other hand if he means that "grey and generic" means no tooltip, no affixes you could learn that an indigo rune into magic missiles will always give you the magic missile splitting effect.

@Simpy7 example number 1 is exactly what Jay Wilson was trying to describe, no doubts.

I guess you are right. Maybe I just read too much into "indigo rune became magic missile splitting rune" ... I mean when did it become indigo rune ? Wasn't it the grey and generic rune from the start?

Concerning the AH-system I have to say it's so much better than the previous ones (D2-trade and WoW) especially since you now have a shared stash with all your characters and can post on AH directly from that. With the RMAH free listings there will probably be ALOT of items listed there and since everyone will want RM they will post their best items. With that many auctions up the prices will go down. I guess many players has some kind of threshold where buying a really rare item for a low amount of RM is ok = more buyers on RMAH. If Blizz will earn money or player will be able to have D3 as a full-time job or not depends on the prices players are willing to pay. It's purely player-driven which I think is great.

I feel that the real money AH is a bad move, as it completely undermines the security of a blizzard fan's account if they do not already play WoW. Now hackers would have arguably much more to gain from hacking Diablo3 than WoW, and will lead to a ton of grief from a number of players.

Correct me if I'm wrong but D3 won't have any addons making it less likely for keyloggers etc. Shouldn't you be LESS likely to get hacked playing D3?

Rune system: I'm not sure Jay explained it very well. First he says
runes dropped unattuned, which means they’re kind of grey and generic ... they don’t actually have a type
    and then he says
And then you pop them into a skill ... rune is not an Indigo rune, it is a Magic Missile splitting rune
Is "type" the same as "class" (indigo, obsidian, alabaster etc.) or is it the skill specific rune ("magic missile splitting rune") With this I can see 2 (maybe 3) different systems

    1) You loot "Grey rune" --> put into skill ==> random class with random stats skill specific rune

    2) You loot "Grey rune [unidentified]" --> ID to Obsidian rune --> put in skill ==> random stats skill specific obsidian rune

    3) You loot "Obsidian rune" (there will then be a total of 35 different runes able to drop) --> put in skill ==> random stats skill specific obsidian rune

Example 2 & 3 looks better too me and I'm uncomfortable with example 1 since it seems a bit too random. On the other hand that might be really fun too. Like in D2 when you found an unique amu and MIGHT get a mara but won't know until you ID it.

sorry for wall of text :P
