I'm starting law school this month and even if D3 came out this year, I wouldn't purchase it until next summer. I know full well what would happen if I got into D3 during law school, and let's just say it would turn law school.... <puts on sunglasses>

Blizzard has decided that they want the cooperative PvM experience to be the defining focus of this game. That's the game they want to make. It seems that they have a very clear vision of D3 as a co-op, rather than competitive, game.

And you can understand their decision. Diablo was never meant to be about PVP, though they have allowed it as a diversion.

But, I for one commend Blizzard for their clear vision and uncompromising stance on this game. Trying to make everyone happy often times makes no one happy.

TL;DR: Fuck PVP, if I want that I'll play a different game. I like where they're going with D3.

But that's what Diablo is. Playing for the sake of loot. That's ALL Diablo has ever been. People tried to superimpose other meaning onto it... but in the end it really is just playing for the sake of loot.

In the end the game is essentially a PvE co-op game and while it may be true to say things like D2 only lasted 10 years because of the PvP craze it's still a co-op game. If you've watched all the interviews and read all the comments made they do intend on making more features for PvP just not at release and of course the solution to the grind-fest is the new auction house feature so that you don't need to do things like Baal runs to get super geared up for the arena.

I say... stop worrying so much about it before the game is even out and if it's THAT big of a deal to quote clockworkbeast "...if I want that [PvP] I'll play a different game. I like where they're going with D3."
So much complaining about this game and it's not even out... jeeze.

Can't have offline play without storing everything client-side. A lot more has to be changed to allow offline play; it's not as simple as just saying "Characters are stored on your computer instead of ours."

Since everything is on Blizzard's servers, not only is it harder to hack, it's harder to test too. This means hackers either have to:

1. Create their own emulation of Diablo 3, which is very hard to do since it's an online game. WoW for example is 7 years old, and still struggles to have anybody "truly" emulate the game without being ridden with bugs, lag issues, etc.

2. Test it on Blizzard's servers, which is very easy for Blizzard to detect and ban.

So yes, it does make hackers have a much more difficult time to mess up the game.

I also still think that the reason they made these changes was a quick way out of balancing, instead of saying everyone is taking arcane orb over arcane missle maybe we should make arcane missle more attractive, they just say "OK lets just make it easier to respec to skip this ability".

I'm not sure if this new system will be good as I havent played the game, but it sounds like it will make the game really shallow when making each character.

The point is it's no more shallow then the other systems when it comes to the depth it gives characters. If anything it provides more depth to your character then the other systems because now you have more meaningful options. If you think this system is going to make shallow characters then you have to think the same thing about the old system - period.
