Its rather old but I guess the mechanic is still the same :) so you can teleport around until you run out of AP.

    I think Vanishing Dye will be my biggest gold sink. <_< almost all the helmets are ugly... and quite a few shoulders look strange too. i think its mostly due to the fact that the monk armor looks really flat (or 2d)... because of that the helmets and shoulders look kinda out of place. almost="" all="" the="" helmets="" are="" ugly...="" and="" quite="" a="" few="" shoulders="" look="" strange="" too.="" i="" think="" its="" mostly="" due="" to="" the="" fact="" that="" the="" monk="" armor="" looks="" really="" flat="" (or="" 2d)...="" because="" of="" that="" the="" helmets="" and="" shoulders="" look="" kinda="" out="" of="">

Patch 13? Not 14? Hmm not that it changes the fact that its all just old values... was just wondering.

Uhm its basically reverted back to Patch 14. Monk Mantras cost 25 Spirit, Exploding Palm is a Generator again...

Overall (at least for the Monk) its all the old Patch 14 numbers. So imho it looks more like something went wrong and they had to reload a backup of their Database...

Edit: Sweeping Winds is a Generator again... all the categories are back to Patch 14... with 3 Generators as Techniques etc.

Even the damage numbers are back to Patch 14 values... Generators back to 100%wpndmg vs. 110%dmg for Patch 15. Serenity is back to 45sec CD... again Patch 14 value.

Oh and Exploding Palms runes changed back to the Patch 14 runes... we have the 2 Targets rune again. With all that I would assume its the Patch 14 Skillcalc... so no "new" values :)

Well let's put it this way.
    This is Spinning Flame Kick:

    This is Wave of Light:

    ----------
    o---------
    ----------

Well I would say its more like:

    Spinning Flame Kick:

    _______________________
    o------------------------------------

Then again we only have a Video to look at... and just from trying the skill in Beta WoL's path isnt that wide... whats rather sad. Oh one "pro" we all forget is that WoL hobbles your enemies (like Tempest Rush). Not that it matter much in Beta but in higher difficulties it could save your ass because it slows enemies.

The other points... targets in melee range dont take more damage from WoL... they might if you go with a "per cast" basis... but if you go "per Spirit spend" SFK still wins... 240%dmg to the targets in melee range for every cast... ~3.33*240%dmg vs 1*390% (Wall of Light rune)...

About the healing. Well we could argue about the casting time of WoL vs. LTK... but that doesnt change the fact that you dont heal "faster" with WoL. You heal in large chunks. Yes in the moment of the cast you heal "faster"... but thats logical because you spend more spirit per cast. But that doesnt make the heal better. It also all depends on spirit generation and tons of external factors... if you need 30sec to generate 100 Spirit it could be very dangerous to rely on the the heal... then its better to use LTK/Transcendence... if you generate the Spirit too fast and you spend larger and larger amounts of your time spamming LTK than WoL would get better (you also avoide capping your Spirit). But from the Beta it looks like having too much Spirit wont be a concern xD

Overall its just that LTK with Transcendence heals you more steady vs a spikey heal from WoL. Because its from a "per Spirit spend" basis both heal the same amount in the long run... just in diffrent ways.

And the thing with the ranged damage... if you really want ranged damage as a Monk (I guess to snipe caster/ranged mobs?) then SFK is better. Even if we agree that WoL isnt completely horrible its just that we have a rune that does the same thing (ranged damage) just better... making WoL useless.

Wave of Light is (partially) a ranged AoE skill, unlike Lashing Tail Kick. There aren't many other ranged attacks for the Monk, and none of them are as powerful as Wave of Light.

Also, don't forget about Transcendence. Wave of Light spends spirit faster than any other skill, therefore healing you much faster with it.

Spinning Flame Kick (Lashing Tail Kick rune) is ranged... it does 240%dmg and it only costs 30 Spirit. Even with runes WoL is worse. So I dont see the point. If you rune WoL it will still only do its 150% at range... you can only increase the first part that is a melee range AoE.

Same with Transcendence... it doesnt matter if you spend your Spirit in huge chunks or more frequently in small chunks, at the end of the day you heal the same amount. Also it wont heal you faster... it will heal you in spikes... I would say that WoLs heal is way riskie than Lashing Tail Kicks Heal. Oh and if you want to argue that one WoL cast is faster than casting 3 LTKs... well that could be... but the animation for WoL is pretty long compared to LTKs animation. So I guess you can cast 2-3 LTKs in the time you need to finish one WoL Oo

Overall WoL just isnt balanced right. You get almost the same effect if you use Spinng Flame Kick... only cheaper and with more damage <_

i dont know if someone else posted it but there is a blue (quite old) claiming they really regret not having the (weapon-)skill animations done yet though together with some other things it would just delay release.
    sure you can find it...

It was never implemented, and never actually worked without someone sitting there typing in a bunch of commands to get it all to fire off properly. It's still something we'd like to do, though.

All things considered there are just higher priority tasks sometimes. We'd love, for example, to have the monk display his weapons during all of his skill animations. But it's an enormous animation and effects investment to get it done, and we have to weigh all of these things against other features and polish. A lot of the skills we could improve have multiple animation sets, multiplied twice for each gender, and then multiplied by each weapon type he can equip. That can be 40 or more unique animations, and then there's a full FX pass, approvals, QA testing, etc. etc. and that'd just be for 1 skill.

We have our wish lists, but it's a balancing act of resources. Ideally our choices when balancing go toward setting realistic limitations, and producing the best game possible.

This. Couldnt find the link... but thats the post^^

Oh and talking about weapons... even his Fist Weapons vanish... and thats something I really cant understand <_

    Please try and stay mature.
And what do you mean by "Why can't a skill called 'Deadly Reach' use a staff instead of a fist?", Because this class is a martial artist, that uses his body as a weapon, punches, kicks, exploding palms, didn't you ever watch a ninja movie? I think of him as a Shaolin monk. Sure they can a use a weapon, but they don't need it, they just kick you in the face.
And that's what (I think) Blizzard went for here. Don't be close minded to think that every class in the history of games should follow the same patterns. I for one, am glad they went astray from the normal conventions of a melee class.

Talking about martial artists and escpecially about ones that know how to use weapons (shaolin monks?). Why WOULDNT you use your weapon if you know how to use it? Isnt fighting with a weapon as a martial artist always better then fighting bare handed if you know how to do both? Just imagine a shaolin with a staff... they know how to use it... so why wouldnt he? It gives him better reach for the fight...

So I dont see that argument as valid. Also if Blizzard really wants us to fight barehanded they could simply give the Monk no weapons... but they give him the weapons... so yeah I guess they want him to use them.

Also if you look at the animation right now the Monk isnt a Monk but a Wizard with the teleport skill... he frequently teleports his weapons out of his hand xD It just looks dumb as is.

Overall I would be satisfied with an animation that just lets the weapons stay at his back/waist... it would look way better then what we have right now <_

Splendid!I been meaning to refine my build with the new changes. My CDO has been acting up with the lack of updates. ( CDO is OCD in alphabetical order AS IT SHOULD BE! )

You obviously have no idea how abbreviations are made... Putting the letters in alphabetical order is never the way to do it lol, at least I can't think of ever seeing a abbreviation where the letters were in alphabetical order in the sake of just being in that order :P

    Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Edit: Not sure if what you were saying was some kind of joke, in case it was then nevermind me.

I think his disorder is to change things to alphabetical order.... so its a joke ;)

We don't know the Spirit regeneration speed at high levels, so ATM we can't say nothing about "high cost", but we can say about efficiency:
    • Spinning Flame Kick 1 Spirit = 8% dmg
    • Empowered Wave 1 Spirit = 5% dmg
    • Pillar of the Ancients 1 Spirit = 4,8% dmg

While that is true you have to look at the AoE. If you can hit more enemies with WoL then it becomes more efficient.

The thing is from trying the skill in Beta it looks like you wont be able to hit that many enemies... also you have to note that the first 150%dmg are only in a very small radius where you drop the bell... so you will only hit ~4-6 enemies for 300%dmg. The rest is only hit by the 2nd part that deals 150%dmg.

Oh and looking at some Vids it looks like Spinning Flame Kick has the same area of effect as WoL. Its a straight line. The only difference is that WoL's path looks a bit wider.

Overall it looks like Spinning Flame Kick > WoL (with every rune choice :().

PS: Talking about the beta... atm it looks like the first hit doesnt deal 150%dmg... it should deal the same amount that is dealt to the enemies in the 2nd part... but it always deals less damage. I only tested it for a short time because you cant really spam WoL so it takes a very long time to try that <_

Edit: Also from trying the skill in beta it looks like it often gets "stuck" on debris/barrels etc... so the 2nd line part ends there <_< sometimes you wont get the 2nd part at all? at least it looks like that. overall the spell just doesnt feel right. its very expensive and feels clunky... sometimes="" you="" wont="" get="" the="" 2nd="" part="" at="" all?="" at="" least="" it="" looks="" like="" that.="" overall="" the="" spell="" just="" doesnt="" feel="" right.="" its="" very="" expensive="" and="" feels="">
