*Added armor names

Hello guys!

I've set up this list of armor sets for the easy browsing of the average Diablo Fan.

Big File Incoming!

It's a problem with Agent.exe.

I had the same issue, and solved it doing this:

First, open your task manager and close Agent.exe, if it is running.
Go to C:/ProgramData/Battle.net/Agent/Agent.868, then execute the Agent.exe that lies inside, and a black screen will openm with some numbers and codes and stuff.

With the Agent.exe running, go and start the Launcher (it works the same for Diablo 3 launcher and Mists of Pandaria Launcher). It will start updating, and will get stuck close to the 65%. You'll see some codes running like crazy on the Agent.exe window while the launcher is stuck on 65%, and after 5-10 mintues, the launcher will be done updating, and the game will start downloading or patching.

If some of this doesn't work, try closing the Agent.exe and start again.
If not, delete the C:/ProgramData/Battle.net folder and try again.
The folder will be re-downloaded when you restart the launcher.

Hello Ladyablos and Gentlebarbs!

I found this Moderators Recruitment pretty interesting, for I have been fond to this site and this community for quite a while. And for quite a while I mean since the good old 2008, when I first heard about this site.

I've found myself coming back every week to check for updates (artwork related mostly) for the first three years since 08, and then several times a day for the past year and a half.
This site has been there as our ever-faithful partner in those dark-very little information from Blizzard-years.
Oh my.. the desperation...

And of course, I would love to join the ranks!

There's not much I can offer from a web-designer/community-manager point of view, for my experience in that area it's non existent. But I have an iron will and strong dedication when it comes to organization and project planning, and I have a golden patience and a widely open mind, that comes in handy when dealing with people.

So, what can I bring to this site and this community?
I would love to lay my hands on the artistic side of the site, and revamp it as a whole!
It's not like there's not a good managing of fan art at the time, but I think we can power it up a notch.

There's a lof of great and dedicated artists around the web, and I think we should give them a proper harbourage here, at Dfans.

Other than that, once I was able to eat a whole potato in one bite.
And I'm willing to do it again, if that's what it takes to get this job.

One day, I was bored during school so I decided to look at the items in D3. Mostly the Legendaries. After paying attention to just the names, I noticed some WoW references. Looking further, I found some names even referencing popular media. These are just a few of the Legendaries, and the ones that I got the reference to.


WoW-related Legendaries

So one of the legendary swords in named Thunderfury. And it is no coincidence that it is WoW related when the description of the item is

This weapon, I believe, is more of a reference at the latest WoW Expansion. There is nothing really special about it at this moment but its description is

This sword, is almost an exact replica of another weapon from WoW. Both blades share the same name and looks so this is clearly a WoW reference.

These pants share a common name with a boss from the old raid, Molten Core. If you guessed Gehennas, then you are correct. But so far, that is the only connection I can find.
The description on these pants is

These pants are the result of an unfortunate bargain struck between the demon Skelon and an unwitting human.

Blizzard Legacy Games

This is a reference to one of Blizzard's ealier games, Blackthorne. In the game, you play as Kyle Blackthorne but he usually uses a shotgun. This being Diablo, a shotgun would be out of place. So instead, he gets a sword.

This spear is both a reference to history and a movie. Both are based upon the Battle of Thermopylae and the 300 Spartans, among about a thousand warriors, who defended the one way into Greek Territory for seven days against the vast Persian Army.

This is obviously a reference to the Dark Knight, AKA Batman. The previous owner was a man named Bayne. As a commenter on the page has stated, Bruce + Wayne = Bayne. And all of us who have played WoW know how Blizzard is with names. /cough Harrison Jones /cough

Nothing really points to this being a reference to Batman's Utility Belt but just the name, Vigilante Belt, has gotta reference it. The picture of it even looks a bit like the utility belt of Batman.

Nothing really appears special about this dagger. It's purple, looks to have spikes on it, but that is it in terms of the dagger. Until you look at the description. It is a quote that was made by the Joker in the Dark Knight. So with that in mind, the dagger being purple fits.

Hammer time! These little pants are obviously a reference to the famous pants worn by MC Hammer in the song, You Can't Touch This. The picture of the item looks pretty close to the actual pants and I'm expecting them to be very baggy when worn in game.

Reference to the Actress Kate Beckonsale whom is the star of the Underworld movies. While a vampire seems more of a target of the demon hunters, she prefers using ranged weapons, guns, and it fits that a cloak is named after her.

What is Best in Life? Barbarians of course. This belt is a reference to Conan the Barbarian. Conan was asked by a Mongol General, "What is best in life?" Conan responded with, "To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." And this Might Belts description is almost exactly the same.

Ideal for crushing your enemies and driving them before you.

A tale that never ends. That is what the warrior, whom last used this bow, felt. The name might also be a reference to the Neverending Story. In the book, there is a boy warrior by the name of Atreyu. So anyone can easily see the reference there.
The description for this bow is

The warrior surveyed the dead and dying arrayed about him. There would be more—many more. He felt as if he were trapped in a tale that would never end.

This fist weapon is a reference to the X-Men character, Wolverine. But he also goes by the name, Logan. If you don't know, Wolverine has three claws on each hand. Which is exactly like the picture on this weapon. The description also hints at releasing the beast.

Bearing this weapon can release the feral beast within.

This amulet is most likely a reference to boxer, Kimbo Slice. He wears a necklace that is a closed fist. This amulet's picture appears to have two hands on it that could reference the necklace.

This heavy amulet was originally crafted for the fiercest of all fighters. Only the strongest can claim the right to wear it.

This is a helmet with the picture of a samurai mask. A mempo is also a mask that samurais use so the connection fits. While I could not find evidence of a media reference, the description talks about how it was used by the last of honor-bound warriors.

The helmet of the last of the honor-bound warriors. He roamed the far east long ago and lived and died by his code of honor.

This sword has nothing really special involved with its name. But it's description is what is used as a reference. It is a quote by George Santayana who is a plilosopher.

This axe has two possible references. Both involve a wolf. One of those two is a reference to Harry Potter and the werewolf Fenrir Greyback. The other one, is a reference to Norse Mythology, whom Fenrir was a monstrous wolf.
There is currently no description for this axe.

This is a reference to the movie, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. In the movie, Max finds a place called Bartertown and has an arena in it called the Thunderdome. The description references a town that has an arena in it.

Used in the arena in the center of the city of Kalden, the famed "Barter Town."

This is Might Belt is a reference to famous boxer, Muhammad Ali. If you did not know, Muhammad Ali was born as Cassius Clay but then changed it when he joined the Nation of Islam, a Islamic group of African-Americans. This Mighty Belt even describes Muhammad Ali in its description.

He moved swiftly and he struck hard. Truly the greatest warrior to have walked the land.

This helmet appears to be referencing the first Star Wars movie, Episode IV: A New Hope. In the movie Ben Kenobi gives Luke Skywalker a helmet that doesn't allow him to see. Ben tells Luke, "Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them. Stretch out with your feelings!" And the description for this helmet is almost like that quote.

Do not trust your eyes; they can deceive you.

This Voodoo Mask is a reference to an Aztec Deity, who is the "feathered serpent" or Quetzacoatl. My guess is that ingame, the mask will resemble the face of a feathered serpent, much like the Aztec God.

This is most likely a reference to Thor, the Norse God of Thunder. Thor was the son of the god Odin, ruler of Asgard. Thor also weilded a one handed hammer called Mjölnir. While the names don't fit, the description of this hammer helps drive the point home.

PVP References

This is most likely a reference to the PvP system in D2. If you did not know, when you killed someone in D2, their ear would drop. And this belt is just MADE of ears. And the description helps reinforce the theory.

A proud fighter displays the ears of those he has slain in battle.

That is all of the interesting Legendary names that I noticed. Did I miss any? Most likely. And that's where I am asking ya'll to find more that I didn't really notice or didn't get a reference to. I intentionally left out the references to past Diablo games because it is expected that items will reference the past games.

Note - All items are not finalized and are subjected to change at anytime that Blizzard so chooses. None of the items have finalized stats yet and probably wont until close to or on release.

Diablo 3 - Beta Patch 6 Notes
The new beta patch will be available tonight and the official notes have been updated.

If anyone can be considered a fan of the Diablo franchise, perhaps we should look to the talented individuals bringing their own flair of creativity and ingenuity to a series loved by many since childhood. The first in a series of low-profile interviews, Interview with a (Fan) Artist will expose the creative minds of dedicated Diablo artists.

This week, we had a short interview with Calavera666 (Ismael Bergara) on his series of super-stylized comic entries, as well as his projected plans for his work. For even more of Ismael's work, check out his profile on DeviantArt.com.

Also, Ismael has recently uploaded his newest comic strip, a parody on the beta patch five updates. Stay tuned to through the interview for this latest piece of his unique comical style!

DF: Last weekend, you posted that you're working on an exciting new project: a comic strip series including some cynical takes on three Diablo III characters. Will your work be more comical shorts, or can we expect some kind of cohesive story for some, if not all, of these entries?

Ismael: I've been considering this project for a while now. I'm very passionate about web comics, and I spend most of my free time diving through them. There's something special, unique if you will, that I've always loved about free web comics, and it's the fact that artists work on them purely based on the desire to craft it, and to deliver it to the community. There's no money behind it, so there's no restrictions. You make comics because you want to, and you make it grow with your most pure and basic humor. In the end, you become your own boss. That means you can completely ruin a storyline, and don't give a f*ck about it!

But yeah, there will be some kind continuity in the strips. Some will be made in two, three, or four parts.

DF: The Diabolesques, as you've labeled them, are plays on controversial topics (such as player-named "moon physics.") Was it difficult coming up with these witticisms?

Ismael: Oh yeah, it's really hard to come up with a monk named "Pillar." I've gathered a council of experts on gaming culture and controversial silliness, just to craft the artful names you see on the characters.

I have to be honest, my one secret is to lurk through the Diablo III forums. The material writes itself!

DF: One of your comics, which plays on the handful of Azmodan's generals mentioned at this year's BlizzCon, plays on Monsters, Inc. to convey its silliness. Do you think that cultural references like this alienates potential reading audiences?

Ismael: There's always the possibility that some readers don't get the meaning of the strips. If you haven't seen Monsters, Inc., you probably wont get the Azmodan's strip. If you haven't been around for the last week, you wont get the "Pillar" strip, either.

I'll do my best to give some hints on the obscure references, yes, but I don't want to explain the jokes. That would kill the whole spirit of the thing.

Tip: If people don't get the reference, they'll ask around about it. Free advertising.

DF: It looks like basically everything you've posted on DiabloFans is comic work. Have you ever worked with other mediums?

Ismael: In fact, comics are the only thing I've never done before! I do illustrations, I do wall paintings, I make sculptures, I forge armor--I ruin lots of materials while forging armor because I suck at it--I do animation, I make 3D modeling, I cook, I write scripts for low budget movies, I do acting.

I do lots and lots of stuff, but comics are not on the list. Well, at least not on the everyday list.

DF: What drew you to comics in the first place? Do you happen to have any inspiration for your humor, or does it all just come naturally?

Ismael: As I've mentioned before, I'm fond of web comics. I've never hopped on the comic bandwagon before, because my work is oriented to illustration.

Making illustrations, like a book cover for example, takes a lot of time and effort, but you work on a very specific picture. You have take care of the lights, the design, the shapes of the figures. To make an illustration is to make a sculpture out of a painting.

Comics, in the other hand, are a completely different matter. Comics need humor, they need constant movement, and they need scripts and fresh ideas.

The process of making comic strips is very exciting to an artist. It forces you to break down your own traditional barriers in order to come up with a funny but graceful result. It's pretty much like dancing with a pencil.

But, just like dancing, comic making is a tricky art. Very difficult to master. That's why I've always wanted to give it a try. And you need humor. Humor has to come out of you like water. If you have to force it, then it's not gonna work. You'll end up working out of commitment and obligation, and not from the heart.

DF: The Lord of Terror tries to pass through airport security. What are your thoughts?

Ismael: Nothing happens. His family owns the company.

DF: Aside from some great entertainment, do you think there's something to be said for the messages of some of your comics? Do you hold strong opinions on some of the content of your work, such as a female Diablo (Diablette) or the Monk summoning pillars ex nihilo (Monk's Problematic Pillars)?

Ismael: I may have some opinions about this and that, but that will never show in the comics. If you look closely, I've never taken a stand to attack or defend any of the subjects. I try to make fun of things from a neutral point of view.

But in the end of the day, I must say that I love every single thing about Diablo III.

DF: Do you have anything you'd like to share with the Diablo community at large, besides more great humor and iconic artwork?

Ismael: Feel free to comment, rate, send suggestions, ask questions--all of those things that would make me feel like I'm important. Look, Ma! I'm on Diablofans!
