posted a message on Today is the last day of the Beta
Thanks to Diablofans, I've been playing the beta for the last 8 months, and I must admit that I had a blast.
I played the same quests over and over and over, almost every day since last october, and I can't get enough of it.

Never went power gaming on it, never tried to get the highest dps, or the best and incredible super loot, or the highes magic find, or anything like that. Never tried to overpower my friends, or to fill my pockets with AH gold.

I've been playing over and over, patch after patch, because the gameplay mechanics of this game is god damn addictive.

First Barb was a Dual Wielder, with Cleave and Leap, and tried to erradicate the monsters as fast as possible.
Today, I play a slow Barb, with two handed weap, Bash and Ancient Spear, no Leap.
It's not a effective combination, but it makes me feel strong, heavy and powerful.

First Demon Hunter was a mess, Slow weapons, Chakram and Bola Shot. Skills were too expensive and it was hard to whipe out enemies.
Later on I went for a faster DH, with dual xbows, hungering arrow and rapid fire. Effective, but way too effective.
Today, a slower DH again. Heavy slow weapons, entangling and bola shot. Crowd control and vault away.
Again, not effective, but god damn fun to play.

Monk has been pretty much the same.
There's not many options in the first part of the game. You get the most fun when killing things like a lightning.
Fist of Thunder and Deadly Reach, main and secondary. I barely use any spirit spender strike, it slows you down an there's not a real powerful skill to choose.
Two generators, very effective, very fun. Will try with other combinations later on.

Witch doctor, since the beggining of the beta I've had a hard time enjoying it.
Rotting things to the ground with damage over time skills it's not really my thing.
Early on I just tried to spam as many frogs, bombs and haunts and possible. Not much fun on it.
Today I enjoy using some more tactical maneuvers, with Grasp of the dead, zombie dogs and darts.
Will have to try it later, with the full set of skills available.

    Wizard.
Early on the Beta, I didn't enjoyed the wizard at all! It was waaaaay too powerful. Almost every skill whiped all monsters on screen.
Later on, with skills based off weapon damage and free signature spells, it was pretty much the same XD
Today the Wizard is a little bit weaker, monsters are quite more powerful, and this makes the gameplay more challenging.
As it is now, it's more enjoyable to play the Wiz, but on the first few levels most skills feel pretty much the same. I end up using magic missil on everything, for it is the most satisfying skill around. Fast, precise and with no arcane cost.
Will need to try it later, with the full set of skills and more challenging monsters.

In the end, being allmighty and erasing all monsters on screen with one click it's not fun, at all.
In my Beta experience, it was not fun to be invincible, or to have the most effective power build possible. What was real fun, was to play against the odds, with strange challenging combinations, and to give the game a chance to defeat me.

It was a fun ride, and even with the game coming in two weeks, I'll sorely miss this Beta experience.

    Quote from Diablo-Fiend

Herein lies my point: I'm a big Barbarian fan and it'll be the class I spend the most time with in Diablo III. Don't get me wrong, I want him to look like a juggernaut, but some of the shoulderguards on those armours are mental. As long as they have nice stats, I won't mind much though. ;)

    I feel you man.
But trust me, items were designed to be seen from an isometric camera, it will look way better ingame.
Just look how cool the barbarian looks with the Archon armor in this little video here:

Some of those armour sets remind me of the armour design of some of the tiered stuff in World of Warcraft. By that I mean way over the top with big shoulderguards etc. What's wrong with minimalistic designs? Anyhow, that's just me. B)

Making big and stilyzed figures has been one of Blizzard's main art designing cornerstones for the past 10 years or so.
They've done a great job trying to make the characters look as far away possible from the Warcraft universe. If you check the barbarian armor designs from 08, you'll find out that it looks way more WoW than the current ones.

And hey, the Barb is the only class with kind of over the top shoulder/armor parts, the other ones are not all that massive :P

    It's a problem with Agent.exe.

I had the same issue, and solved it doing this:

First, open your task manager and close Agent.exe, if it is running.
Go to C:/ProgramData/Battle.net/Agent/Agent.868, then execute the Agent.exe that lies inside, and a black screen will openm with some numbers and codes and stuff.

With the Agent.exe running, go and start the Launcher (it works the same for Diablo 3 launcher and Mists of Pandaria Launcher). It will start updating, and will get stuck close to the 65%. You'll see some codes running like crazy on the Agent.exe window while the launcher is stuck on 65%, and after 5-10 mintues, the launcher will be done updating, and the game will start downloading or patching.

If some of this doesn't work, try closing the Agent.exe and start again.
If not, delete the C:/ProgramData/Battle.net folder and try again.
The folder will be re-downloaded when you restart the launcher.
    you are fucking awesome

    Did it work then?

Closing the agent will close the updater/downloader/launcher/patchen curretnly running.
But the Agent.exe is only giving problems when you're on the "Updating setup files" part of the download, which comes before than the actual client download.

Well I'm sorry, but the art on Book of Cain is underwhelming.
I mean, honestly, there's only one or two pieces that are actually well composed, but that doens't save the rest of the book's art from being mediocre.

Yes, I call it mediocre, for the people who worked on it are geniuses of the arts, and their underperformance on this book is outrageous.
Maybe they had a very short deadline, maybe they were under paid, or maybe the project itself was uninspiring, call it whatever you like.
Sure, it's supposed to be text book and not an "Art of Diablo 3" full quality compendium, but that still doesn't make the inside art any better.

Maybe I'm being somewhat rude? yeah, totally.
I just dislike when someone uses it's free creative time for almost a year to make a perpetuous, free, selfless gift to the community (much more important and crative than the paid, underperformed artists on the book), and get's gratuitely insulted for no reason.

Especially when he's a friend of mine.

    Hey there guys!

I'm having a very strange problem with the beta launcher. It just won't work!

It opened the "updating" screen, like when downloading a new patch, but it got stuck at 0%
I tried a few times, but nothing happened, so I uninstalled the beta, and re-downloaded the client downloader.

The things is that the client downloader doesn't work either!
There's some other people here having the same issue http://us.battle.net...opic/4138439370

Plus, my D3 Beta profile has dissapeared from the battle.net forums, and I can't post my problem in the Techincal Support forum!
I've checked the games I have available on my battle.net account, and D3Beta is still there.

    Any idea?

I don't know if anyone has found this guy before, but I'm playing the beta and just found a unique monster on a Defiled Crypt that was named DATAMINER.
It was one of those ghostly miners, only that it had that "Jailer" spell thingy that locks you on the ground.

The monster had a subtitle, but I didn't got to read it for it died rather quickly. It had something to do with "spoils".

    Cool stuff.

The evolution of Blizzard games, especially with D3, has demonstrated a great tendency to develop a powerful graphics design experiences.
I don't know what you consider "art", but turning a regular hack-and-slash-loot-hunting-dungeon-crawler into a fast paced visceral adventure it's pretty artistic to me.

You need to see the whole picture, wrap it together, and compare it with games like skyrim, a game with zero artistic appeal, from design to gameplay.

Sure, they want to blast your pockets more than anything in the world, I give you that, but they have changed things, endured the fanbase rage, and struggled against adversity to keep the goal on sight. The goal of creating a unique and perfect piece of gaming experience.

Panel 3 works perfectly, but only because of the previous panels.
It's a sequence of motions carefully planned. Let me explain you how it works.

The first panel displays action happening "in the middle", were both actors collide in the action. A chat bubble appears as the result of this clash.

Second panel separates the actors, taking the action to different places of the frame. One of the characters (ferret) remains the same, nothing happens there, so we're drawn to the other side of the panel. Far away a new action happens (Bosom inspection), that will keep the attention of the reader on the right side of the panel. Hopefully, if a male is reading the comic, he will be staring at the cleavage for a while..

Then we get to the third panel, where a big strong red heart appears in the other side of the frame. We're forced to look at the red dot, for our eyes and brain are normally stimulated by this color, and we tend to stare at it immediately.
That stimulus and reaction event was placed intentionally, so the reader would feel the same urge as the character to quickly gaze at the other side of the panel.
We see it's a heart, we recognize what it stands for, and then we look down at the lustful roguish grin of the Demon hunter.

In that moment, if your moral codes are working correctly, you will feel the urge to kick the demons hunter ass!
That leads us to the final panel, were our previous idea has already happened.

Now, why does the third panel works? Because it's the triggering pivotal point were the reader synchronizes with the main actor of the motion script.

There is no delay when the game isn't ready yet. (...) Get over yourselves and go outside. I don't care if it takes another year for release.

I'm just gonna go outside and wait for another year then, but can you please fetch me a blanket? it's gonna get cold in winter

But hey!I totally agree with you man! there's some of the dumbest people commenting on this issue, right here! ;P

Forget them Calavera, you've made another great comic, keep it up!

Don't you even worry about it! Forums were made to discuss about things things, it's perfectly fine if they want to do it. As long as they admit that I am right and they are wrong, obviously.

Oh, Hoboman, the Wizard is winning, she is pretending to be asleep while casting clairvoyance.

    BTW, what does diabolesque mean?

"Diabolesque: adj. Devilish, of the Devil, relative to it"

    It's a frenchified neologism.

Oh Philosoraptor, you're gonna make me blush!

You better get used to this, because for as long as we have Diablo around, I'll keep making crappy comics.

We need at least two more card players to get this thing going.

But just two more, servers won't support a party of five ;P
