I'm trying to understand what all the fuss is about, but it honestly just sounds like jealousy on the part of those who are complaining.

Quinn is a major contributor to not just the Diablofans community, but the entire Diablo Community at large. Sure he may get favored when it comes to things like this, but look at it this way. If you had a product, and you wanted to get as much attention on said product as possible, who would you go to first? I don't know about you, but I'd hands down choose the guy who has the biggest viewership and name recognition. It's all about driving numbers, and Diablofans needs to do what it has too to drive those numbers. And I think they do a pretty damn good job at being balanced when it comes to who they put spot lights on. I constantly see builds from a variety of people, streamers or not, being posted on the front page.

How can anyone honestly complain that the other fans of this site don't have an avenue to share "their" builds and guides. I mean, I can still click on the Build button up top, and it still takes me to a large selection of builds that I can peruse. Or I can even search the forums for more indepth guides if i so wish.

Also, dont expect people to take you seriously when you say that you aren't jealous and that you respect Quinn when the title of the thread is Quinnfans.

I actually haven't played a second of season 5. And Botting is a huge reason why. I see no point in sinking hundreds of hours into a Season, just to have a bot destroy any chance I have to compete for a leaderboard position.

I'm actually curious to see what becomes of this. I know they lost in Germany, but I wonder if the American courts will be more favorable towards Blizzards, even though a win won't stop the selling of BOTs a bit. At least it sends a message that Blizzard is trying to take some action on the matter.

I wonder if they have an actual leg to stand on, Blizzard that is. Because if I understand it correctly, the BOT doesn't interfere with the game software, it only reads and generates commands based on the retrieved data. Not sure if that would make a difference or not though, just pondering.

And by the way, I've spent at least a few thousand hours playing D3, reached the leaderboards in 2 of the 4 seasons, and will continue to play the game, even in its broken state.

I've been a fan of the diablo franchise for as long as I can remember and have very fond memories of playing D1 and D2.

The simple fact remains though, that Paragon leveling is mindless, easy and an absolute requirement to be on the leaderboards. It requires zero skill.

lol again.its not that simple to get on leaderbords even if you have high para ...its a must to have some skills too,for ex : i did go up on leaderboard with my low para (low i meant 1086 then) and did beat a friend of mine (diablo friend) with para 1400 so i quess even if you have high para you still can be a noob like ive seen it before.so again you dont have a clue what you talking about.

It's not skill bud. Its GRift Fishing.

You could complete a higher GRift with a lower Paragon than your buddy with the right Rift conditions.

SO, all that your statement tells me, is either your friend is inadequately fishing rifts for his PL or you got lucky with yours.

The fact still remains that the higher your Paragon, the easier it is to get through higher GR levels with less fishing.

posted a message on Against endless Paragon Level.

I'll never for the life of me understand these "WAH! WAH! TAKE AWAY PARAGONS!" kids.

I've literally never heard a one of them come up with a logical reason behind their opinion that didn't essentially come down to, "It's not fair cause people who play way more than others get further in the game". Yet these kids make sooooooo many posts about this crap. As if to make up for their complete lack of reason or rationality they just take to being really loud and insistent.

Let's say we remove paragons. Then what? You get your BiS gear...........then what? No paragons to farm, if you kept grifts you'd essentially reach a brickwall eventually where you'd never be able to progress any further and if you throw grifts out too, then what?

You people whine about "feeling like your on an endless wheel" but your solution to that is just to stop the wheel completely? Just end the game? Make it so that no one has any chance at progressing passed just beating the campaign and getting their best gear? Why?

In what world would that make sense or be preferable to how things are? Why can't these kids comprehend that in ANY game like this the people who spend craptons of hours into it are gonna have more and go further than those who don't? What's unfair about that? When you watch sports do you ever think "Uck, that's not fair. I want to be on the Yankees but I've never played baseball before! It's not fair that these guys who spend all their time playing baseball get to be on a major team and I as someone who doesn't play baseball don't! We should ban baseball!"

Why are we even putting this much weight on leaderboards? Such a teeeeny, tiny % of the playerbase even ever make it to the leaderboards yet we're willing to nerf, cap and destroy entire relevant aspects of the game that are open to a much larger % of the playerbase to give these kids the feeling that it's "more fair" for them. I've never been on the leaderboards and that's my own fault for not being as good or having the same amount of time to put into the game as those that do.

Do they not realize that removing/nerfing/capping paragons and grifts isn't gonna make it so that they can now magically be #1 on leaderboards? The same guys that spend 12 hours a day or whatever farming paragons and pushing grifts would just spend more time than you farming better gear, find more people to share gear with and get further on the boards than you anyway. Then what do we do? Remove RNG gear? Make all legs/sets have the same base stats? Put a cap on the time anyone can play on any given character? When does it end?

Can't we just make a pretend ladder for these kids and photoshop their names on it or jingle keys in front of their face while the rest of us enjoy the game?

I really, really hope Blizzard doesn't take posts like this seriously. These kind of posts make me worry about the future of the game more so than any inherent in-game flaw.

Have you even taken the time to read any of the posts in this thread?

There's plenty of logical reasons as to why people are unhappy with the end game being a mindless xp speed farm.

Do you know the current state of end game requires you to drop the difficulty and speed farm easier content to increase your Paragon levels?

It doesn't make any sense to me when you say only a tiny portion of the player base reaches the leader boards so people should stop complaining about the fact they can't compete. Why even have leaderboards then? What is the purpose of giving the 1% of people who can actually get on the leaderboards a leaderboard?

Why implement a system that at its very core forces players to BOT to achieve a spot on said leaderboards?

The new augmentation of acients should help to alleviate the initial need for Paragon grinding but there will still come a point when PL will be your ultimate end game. Which to me doesn't make sense in a game that is supposedly all about the gear.

I really don't think that's the reason to quit for a significant amount of players. Most people don't give a shit about the competition. They just play for themselves. Equip their char until they have everything, push grifts until they have to fish to beat it and then get bored because fishing for grifts is boring as hell. This is about 50 hours, maybe more with the augmentation of ancients. That's not good enough only for players who nolife the game...

The majority of players are quitting because of the Paragon meta. It forces you to BOT or quit your day job to remotely comptetive. Even streamers, those who sit in front of their computers for 10+ hours a day are quitting because they can't compete against the bots grinding xp.

It's a terrible end game mechanic and a false one at that.

If Blizzard and the majority of its player base is okay playing 50 hours each season then leave things the way they are. But by the looks of it, at least one of the two isn't.

I do think that the changes in 2.4 will help keep a chunk of players around for a bit longer, they still don't solve the long term issues facing the game.

The majority of players... The majority of players does not care about leaderboards. The majority of players does not care about paragon grind. The majority of players just plays the game every now and then and have their fun. Blizzard develops their games for the majority of players. That's why chars can be fully equipped after a short time. The majority only plays a short time.
What you are talking about is the loud minority. It's a common mistake to believe you are the majority just because forums are filled with people who have the same beliefs as you do. Fact is, only a teeny-tiny percentage of players uses the internet to talk about their games outside of said games. The silent majority just plays it and stops playing it because of a lot of different reasons, just to start playing it again later on.

I understand that the vast majority of players don't focalize their displeasures, and that the "loud minority" are the ones on the forum complaining, but how in the world is Blizzard supposed to address the issues if they don't know why people are leaving?

There's a reason this "loud minority" is being heard. They see an issue, that not only they, but the others they play with are experiencing and voice their opinions on fan sites and the official forums.
Take me for an example. A large portion of the players on my friends list, have left this season because of the xp grind being the end game meta. For other seasons it was exploits that caused them to leave.

When season were announced my friends list became more active than I've ever seen it. People from different games were popping into D3 to get prep'd for the new ladder/season system. And with the season one launch, I swear, out of the 100 people I have on it, 99 of them were on at any given time.

Then the exploit was found, which clearly gave people a large advantage PL wise. So, people started dropping off almost immediately, because those who found it, decided to keep it "close to the chest" until they got a clear and distinctive advantage over others, again PL wise. And since the ability to compete was thrown out the window, the started to leave.

It's clear to me, even though it's just a small personal sample size, that a lot of people, even if it's the "loud minority", are unhappy with the PL meta.

Give the majority the ability to compete and more people will play and invest more time, for longer periods into the game.
Would I be overly pleased if I sank 500 hours into a season and some dude who only sank 250 into the game, ended up higher than me on the leaderboards? I probably wouldn't, unless of course it was because his RNG was better than mine and he just so happened to outgear me.

Once again, IMO, they need to put more focus on gear and less on a life investment.

That's a horrible solution. GRifts are by far the only content where such high paragons mean something

And that's where the problem lies. It forces people to BOT to remain even the slightest bit comptetive.

People who cant play 18 hours a day fall behind at an expedential rate and either quit playing or do something they arnt comfortable with and BOT.

And the vast majority of people can't play 8+ hours a day for 3 months on a daily basis. I understand and somewhat agree that people who sink more time into a game should reap some sort of benefit. But giving them such a large advantage over the majority doesn't make sense to me.

Like I said, capping plevels and putting the emphasis on gear would put this game in such a better place, IMO.

As it stands now, and you see this happening in each season. People come back, grind it out for a few weeks to keep up with the hardcore grinders, and then lose all motivation when they log on and see people 300+ plevels ahead of them and quit because they could no longer compete in any fashion.

PLs should be capped in some cappicty. I think a soft cap would be ideal. Meaning, cap PLs in greater rifts (800 perhaps), but allow people to gain and use higher PLs in everything else. This would allow for a more leveled competitive playing field in GR leader boards but still allow for a character to get stronger and more efficient at gear farming. Doing something along these lines would take the emphasis from mindless experience grinding, and botting for xp and put it back onto gear and skill.

Imagine that. An ARPG focused on gear and skill as the main proponent to leader board rankings. And yes, I realize that the GR system/leader boards relies a lot on RNG. Which is another can of worms.

By the sounds of it though, it might be worth looking into WoW Legion as a D3 alternative in the future.

Imo, Blizzard should use this time between now and the end of the season to confirm botters and flag accounts internally, but dont ban them just yet! Wait. Wait to ban them a week before the season is over. Let them think they are getting away with it, and crush their dreams right before the real push for GR rankings starts. They'll have no chance of getting to a competitive state in a weeks time.

HC just gives you a reason to pay attention to what your doing. SC is to much of a mindless meat grind for me. If they were to penalize players for dying in SC, say the loss of an item or wiping of Paragon levels, than I might actually play SC. Until then, I'll be sticking with HC.

The biggest problem with HC right now, imo, is the lack of player base towards the middle/end of the season. A lot of big streamers have always played SC and the ones who didn't before have made the jump to SC for season 4.

SC is supposedly more competitive too.

posted a message on Solo Play mode and leaderboards (Pics included)

It's pretty obvious why people enjoy playing solo, and even more so for why they want solo play to be competitive.

I like many others enjoy playing the game solo, but feel I MUST play in groups to remain even remotely comptetive. This, IMO, is one of the biggest flaws D3 has atm. With such a large focus on Paragon Level equaling Progression/Character Power, it forces anyone who wants to stay with the curve to join PuGs or find groups. Not doing so means you fall behind at a rapid pace.

Blizzard needs to seriously revamp the Paragon system and turn it into something useful/fun that can benefit even the casuals whom put a relatively decent amount of time into their character.

I think they should look into something simular to PoEs passive tree. Once you hit the level cap, you gain one passive point per Paragon Level, to a max of Paragon 100. The tree could involve the boosting of certain stats, elements or even changing the way skills work mechanically. And with a Paragon cap, it would put the focus onto gear again and not how much time you're able to spare playing the game.

In its current state, D3s design and game philosophies are down right confusing. Who exactly are they trying to cater this game towards?

Just had a random idea regarding shrines... let me know what you think and I'll consider making a thread on the official forums.

What if the shrine type was hidden until you clicked on it? Better yet, what if these hidden shrines had a health pool and mobs surrounding it. Said mobs would turn to and attack the shrine once the player was within aggro range of the mobs.

The whole idea behind it? Well, it's a race. Kill the mobs before they destroy the shrine and reap the benefits for saving it. Perhaps longer lastin buffs to boot would be a nice reward.

    What do you think?

Its possible they were trying to have players play with sweep for aoe and shield bash fir single target, but I when I tried to use both in the same build, sweep felt useless.

I could be wrong as I havent done extensive testing, but from doing a bit of research and a small bit of testing, I haven't seen a single build combining the both of them.

Dis. The sad thing, this might be an actual fact.

But seriously, why not, dumb a little money into a diablo 2 reskin? It would help clean up some of the biggest flaws in Diablo 3 and its community right now.

a)No longer could people complain about the game not resembling D2 enough.

I do not like the combat in POE at all!... but I do like the more in depth systems it has outside of the combat.

D3 suffers from a serious lack of depth, mostly in the character customization and end game. These areas in PoE, are superior to D3s, imho. The combat and visual design would have to go to Blizzard, but thats just to be expected when you have a corporation of that magnitude, designing a game.

The lack of depth, in terms of game mechanics though, is baffling. But I have my fingers crossed that someone at Blizzard will wake up and take a long serious look at the core mechanics of the game.

PoE has done a lot of things right, I just wish Blizzard would realize that and start stealing their ideas. 8|

I'll be playing HC on day one. SC just doesn't appeal to me any more. Without that sense of "if i die, i'm dead", the game just isn't enjoyable. I'm I the only one that feels that way about this game now?

Thanks god Diablofans has a way better community, if i posted on the Bnet forum, i would get banned in 5 minutes for direct insults...

    Ditto.

I keep going back and forth on the Transmog idea in D3. I like the idea of being able to customize the way I look when an upgrade happens to be an ugly PoS, but more importantly, I like being able to accurately distinguish what a player in mulitplayer is wearing, visually. Now i'll be forced to go through the hassle of inspecting a player if I ever feel the need to see what his gear is like.

And doesn't transmoging a Legendary, kinda take something away from it being a Legendary? Is it just me that feels like it does?

I get a feeling that adventure mode isn't an "open world" where you can travel between any Acts. I feel that it's a series of map, dungeons, random events and 1-2 bosses at the end. The questing part is gone.

I guess it's similar to Loot Runs (Nephalem Rifts?) but longer.

From what we've datamined so far it's the whole game, but without the questing parts, where you can travel anywhere.

And I'm hoping that's the way it is at launch. PoE style.

    Nah, d2 style.

Touche. Regardless. I think its a much needed implementation.

So, for example, if you've just earned a point in Offense, you'd have the opportunity to assign it to Attack Speed, Critical Hit Chance, Critical Hit Damage, or Cooldown Reduction. If you've just earned a point in Utility, you could assign it to Maximum [Resource], Magic Find, Movement Speed, or Gold Pick Up Radius.

Its nice to get a bit more details surrounding Paragon 2.0.

    Quote from Bagstone

I agree, to some extent. MF shouldn't be on gear. But doesn't the MF bonus on the adventure tab then become mandatory? Like I said, I *think* they just want to make MF one other gearing "option". In my *opinion* it should just be removed completely.

I never liked the idea of MF on gear, and even less for a stat in the Paragon 2.0 system.

As soon as you put MF on a piece of gear or into a point allocation system, it becomes instantly mandatory. No high end player would pass up an opportunity to increase his/her chance to find the best possible gear available, if there's a chance to do so. SO, I say scrap MF stats all together and just leave it as a part of the Valor system. Better yet, implement the valor globe system that we see on console and let us find valor orbs at random, and without a cap.

I really hope they make a decision on what will happen to allocated paragon points on character A if and when character B dies.

I have one HC character creeping its way up to 100 (currently 65), but I grow more weary of playing it when i see posts that indicate that no decision has been made on the subject.

Well, to be fair, the D3 beta was only up to the Skeleton King, and I still put in like 60+ hrs on that, maybe more, it spoiled some, but they will need to test the Crusader, and Blizz knows there are just somethings that gamers can do that they can't, and we know how to break characters :D

I'm of the same mind set. I can't see Blizzard passing on a beta period for RoS.

Although, I wouldn't be surprised if they left Act V out of it and just let us test loot 2.0 and the Crusader.

I just hope if they do decide to do a beta, they open it to the public and refrain from the nonsense that occurred with Vanilla.

Remember they still have to support the game without the expansion, so what Torment likely is is just a level 70 inferno. Inferno will remain level 60.

I think judging by the data mined information Hell and/or Nightmare will be replaced by Torment.

I'm pretty sure they mentioned something about wanting to remove Hell difficulty in the past.

i swear diablo 3 development and patches overall are the slowest things to ever come in a video game. It seriously makes me wonder what kind of development and programming departments they have over there.

take marvel heroes for example, the rate at which gazillion delivers weekly patches and monthly major content patches is just outstanding. How can one much smaller company with limited budget be able to pull such a thing off? and for some reason for blizzard is close to impossible.

    Baffled.

It probably has to do with the fact that changing something with their product would effects millions of players, not thousands. Hence the long delays on content and patches. I do however agree with you slightly. It takes an awful long time for them to do their thing, but when the do finally release something, it tends to be done right, for the most part.

I really want to see the affix being removed completely. Not just on new items, also from all existing items. MF became a stupid requirement and created an extremely artificial gap. There was even no choice in whether or not to get MF.

I couldn't agree more. I think MF is a wasted itemization slot. I think needing specific gear to find better gear is a poor design.

I wonder how this news is going to effect the market place in the short term? Anyone think this might be a good time to buy some leveling gear?

Hard to say. Probably not levelling gear I wouldn't think, though it may be worth seeing if level 60-gear craters. My speculation right now is that, sometime next year, prices on gear will drop and prices on gems / tomes will go up, assuming no big announcements change that. Two-handed weapon and shield prices will probably go up close to the end though since it will make good leveling gear for crusaders.

I think it might be wise for me to hold off on doing anything crazy. Its too hard to say at this point if it will be better to stock pile gold or mats. I will keep tabs on some lvl 60 gear though, and try to land a good deal on gear for my HC Crusader.

They tried it out, it failed. Hats off to Blizzard for taking the plunge and giving it a try, and a round of a applause for admitting they were wrong and pulling the plug. Both couldn't have been easy moves to make.

And that is what shocks me the most. Admitting that they made a mistake by adding the AH into the game, but then having the backbone to take it out and alter the game in such a massive way, is rather impressive. And quite frankly, not something I thought Blizzard would have the balls to do.

I actually would prefer if they just removed the followers all together. I've always found it annoying to have them following me where ever I go, plus their quirky catch phrase get annoying to listen too after a while. I could never understand while Blizz thought we need something such as followers in the first place.

I wouldn't say that is easy on HC.

Things don't sell as much, as quicky and for the same amount of gold as they do in Softcore.

Add to that the fact that the few people playing Hardcore are actually pretty good players (and hence you're competing with some other good flippers) and the profit margins seem to be quite low.

Been doing it only for a couple days, though. So take my opinion with a grain of salt.

You forgot the add that a massive chunk of HC players tend to be Self Found only. Seems like everyone I run into in public games now only do Self Found. My self included.

    Let's flip the dynamic here.

Honestly, how many people would play ladder if the best items in the game were non-lad only?

^^ This needs to be addressed.

Its for this reason, I doubt Blizzard would release ladder only items again. A ladder should just be used as a fun means to race one another. Normal vs Ladder, or even HC vs SC, shouldn't get a specific mechanic/item that the other doesn't.

I would advise you to keep attacking and trying to move in a direction where you're more likely to survive.

I don't get them often, but when I do, boy do they cost me big time! Over the last 4-5 weeks I've lost two level 50+ HC characters to minor, but fatal lag spikes. They always seem to come at the worst of times.

My question to my fellow HC players is as posted in the title. How do you handle lag spikes? Is there a secret to surviving them? or do you just hold on to your trousers and hope that you survive?

*edit: I'm just trying to get a feel for the best way to handle the situation.

don't do self found, buy weapons whenever you can afford them, and socket them with a ruby or amethyst depending on class. but ultimately, the only tip i can really give, is just have fun.

TBH, I'd refrain from even looking at the AH. Buying gear from the AH ruins the entire purpose of this game, in my experience anyway. The second I buy something from the AH, I immediately stop enjoying my character. I mean, this is just my opinion, but I'd stay far far away from the AH.

    I can't decide for myself.

Now that I'm back to D3 (took a solid 8 month break), I'm having issues with deciding between HC and SC.

Here are my positives for each:

    Hardcore
    - Death is permanent. (I like the edge it gives the game)
    - AH seems a little more reasonably priced.

    Softcore
    - RMAH (I like knowing I could potentially sell an item/gold for real cash)

    .....

But this time I decided to try something different by trying to play with a console controller instead of using the standard, mouse and keyboard setup. After some research and an hour of setting everything up, I couldn't be happier, except for one thing!

Is there anyway to disable the mouse 'click' animation (orange/yellow) circle?
