It would also make sense if Blizzard intended to run the sweepstakes for at least its full duration, since it'd be bad press to stop them earlier than intended, while as prolonging it would be only positive.

It would not be bad PR at all to stop the beta sweepstakes early because I'm sure everyone and their gerbil would rather beta end and the game release.

My reaction: Does this mean Nightmare will really just be another tutorial and we won't have a real challenge until Hell?

Difficulty is SO subjective it's not even funny. The point is they are naturally going to create a mold of the base skill from the casual audience. So expect the tiers to shift based on your experience. They want one difficulty to be the "wtf this is insanely hard" area. For casuals it will be too damn frustrating and they will just be happy with beating Hell (by using what they learned from the other two difficulties). Inferno will hopefully require YOU (and by proxy, the community on forums, chat, etc) to come up with new strategies that the other difficulties did not essentially introduce you to by making it pretty obvious what you needed to do to survive. So hardcore fans will be willing to face through Inferno, casuals will not...at least unless they decide to cross that threshold and start changing things in their personal life to make more time to master the game.

Nightmare is just going to feel like New Game+ with higher stats. In fact it will probably be easier in comparison to Normal in some ways if you do any farming in Normal before hitting Nightmare since I'm sure Nightmare's creature level will be only just above what you saw at the end of Normal. You might get caught off guard by a new mob special property or combo of properties but you may not even die from it. It's just going to be there to show you of how they will ramp the harder difficulties up.

No but Blizzard's not going to give anyone early access for buying the CE. This is simply a way of making sure CE fans don't get screwed out of a midnight start w/ their perks.

They really should just sell the CE the day before and not turn on the servers until 12:01 AM on launch day so everyone starts at the same time. Since it's online only getting the CE a day early doesn't give them any advantage.

Blizzard could just let people download the client. Without a registered copy on your b.net account, you won't get anywhere anyway.
I don't think they would risk some people datamining the release client and allowing everyone to know exactly all item stats, all bosses stats, and what are the secret levels and their bosses (with 100% certainty this time, unlike the beta which has "encrypted" stuff) even before release.

At least that's what I would think if I was a developer.

Encrypt stuff just like beta and have a small patch on release that unencrypts.

Definitely like this change. Bosses are epic because they are epic encounters, and now these special mobs whose encounter isn't quite as epic suddenly become epic because they have the best chance of epic gear. More epic encounters = win

When farming bosses it feels like swimming through trash because you KNOW where the boss is and roughly how long it will be before you get there and everything prior has no chance of making you happy...with this system you have no idea when you're going to run into that next super lootbag so seeing these rare spawns will be like seeing a rare item drop all on their own

posted a message on Blizzard said: "D3 is the most moddable version of Diablo there's ever been"
They need to give modding tools to experienced names in the modding community to help them develop new modes for Blizzard to officially release for online-only play. There aren't enough positions at Blizzard to provide a seat to every brilliant game designer + programmer. Give them an opportunity to contribute and you'll see more than the birth of DotA and TD. They'll also speed you along into an optimized UI.

WoW has improved dramatically in a lot of quality-of-life areas by emulating very popular mods. Diablo will suffer by restricting its quality development to only the small pool of designers (small in comparison to the willing and available talent in the world). They need to open it up so improvements don't come so slowly.

Also their excuse for no mods is still dumb. They could always offer an unsupported offline only mode for people who don't care about secure trading or hacks. Battle.net would not track these characters and of course they would never be able to come online. Blizzard would just watch to see what's popular and implement what parts of what's popular they like into later versions of Diablo and obviously profit from it.

Blizzard would never admit to anything that delays the game other than improving the game itself (really bad PR). That being said it wouldn't have made any sense to delay for a multi-platform release. The last thing they need is increase the amount of time that has passed since Blizzard released a new title, especially with WoW sinking.

Runic really should have finished Torchlight 2 by now to cash in before D3 comes out but as it is they are going to see a lot less sales since it seems like they aren't trying to get their product out before the Juggernaut comes to wreck them and take most of the isometric ARPG pie.

quit whining about Android...that market is very fragmented which is why most developers head to iOS first. Android eventually gets a version in most cases but get used to the fact that it nearly always gets second dibs. It's not going to change unless Apple loses their mind and starts licensing their mobile OS all over the place.

As far as the app: Awesome but the ad sometimes flips to top and covers some of the UI. Also it's dangerously close to the X when it's at the top which makes it really difficult to casually hit the X w/o having Safari pop up.

Do you guys really need ads to support this? There are plenty of free apps that have no ads. If you're really fans you wouldn't be trying to make a profit off this.

I don't like that gems have a base stat along with a random one because then you're limited to at most, stacking one of those base stats to try in a build. All gear has items that have purely random properties (outside of possible unique effects) but there are no gems with this properties. Even runes have only random bonuses (aside from the actual skill change effect).

Yes we fully understand people would love to play more content, but no we're not going to release any more during the beta phase. The test is mainly intended for server stability and hardware/software compatibility testing, and not for content bug testing. For that reason we really only need provide a small bit of content to get the majority of our beta testing jollies.

And this is why the game is taking till 2012. Ignoring bug feedback and the legions of pairs of eyes and hands to help break things. Relying on only internal testing is killing the timeline.

It's certainly possible but like SC2 the easy-to-get keys didn't happen until the game was in beta for quite a while.

Conversely their goal is to have this game in beta a whole lot shorter than SC2 or any of their WoW games.

I think they're just going to quickly ramp up invites in a short period to stress test.

The only problem I have is how many bugs F&F found in just the small amount of content they get to test. Unless they allow more content to be tested, you can be sure there will a crapton of bugs post-Leoric because obviously when D3 was just internal they didn't find them all pre-Leoric.

Seems like the perfect balance is getting as much MF as you can while having no problems mowing through mobs. If you start having any probs then you sac some MF for combat stats.

Personally I don't care in a pub game if I'm not wearing much MF and the other 2-3 are fully MF geared. I really doubt we'll be losing to bosses and uniques by just a hair that could have been solved by not stacking MF. It's more likely going to be reliant on skill. If the other players are all skilled and we just barely lose to a boss...I'm sure since they have skill they'll use their brain and swap in a few combat gears.

Bad players (if I'm not in the mood to help newbies) will get booted anyway, regardless of gear.

HOWEVER, both of my friends responded in time, yet only one of them received the beta.

I am insanely confused right now.

I mean, the mails were confirmed to be legit, and only 1 got the actual beta. We're all from Europe.

My friend tried to contact the support but they just responded with the generic mail telling us that it looks like it was a fake, even though we know it wasn't.

Blizzard is really screwing around. First they add a ridiculous deadline, then they do not even give the beta to the people who actually respond in time.

You're not in any position to determine if a Blizzard email is legit. Only Blizzard is. Ignore all emails talking about a beta. Always. If you got in the beta you do absolutely NOTHING related to emails. All you EVER have to do is keep checking your BNet account for the D3 Beta box. If you ever get asked to click or do ANYTHING to get in a beta from an email, you are WRONG and it is FAKE. Thanks for helping the scammers make Blizzard's life more miserable.

Blizzard explained forever ago the proper way to check for beta invites.

How do you know that ? Maybe they are not people who stalk the forums all the time and just want to play the game.

For every 10 people who get into the beta at least 1 will be either a forum goer, or will want to go post on official boards to brag. Remember there is a pretty long download time, someone is going to post. The law of numbers tells us a small number of 'normal' people got in.

Edit: If 1000 people got in we would absolutely know about it.

To be fair all 10 of those people could not be part of that other 10% you mentioned. And then the next 2 people could be. 10 is too small of a data set. Even if 99.9% of people didn't forum post they could invite 1000 opt-ins and it's still possible none of them would post. Either way we have seen zero proof that any opt-ins are in the game so I'm sticking with exactly ZERO until we at least see proof of one.

If you're not dumb you learned everything there is to know just by watching others play even if their streams were lower quality or had bad commentary.

Which is exactly why i (and i assume most people on this site) would prefer their videos over anyone else.

And right after i posted i saw Force's DH vid up... Of course. lol

But now it's just too little too late because of blizzard's weird invite/NDA situation with the beta and the press.

Now the Ferrari shows up at your doorstep but you don't need it anymore. If you're upset because Force and Co. haven't finished making videos of them (more eloquently) regurgitating what you should already know, I don't think anyone can help you.

The next useful info I'm sure will come out of here will be patch notes (since they will be posted very quickly unless you're F5'ing the Official Beta forums), beta giveaways, and possibly credible leaks on a release date.

They don't need thousands more people reporting the same bugs. Eventually all that will hopefully be left are smaller bugs that are much harder to find so adding more people would be helpful. If anything the closed public beta is just to stress test servers. We'll probably be let in so late in beta development that our non-bug related feedback will be largely ignored (just like all the WoW betas I've been in...if you got into the beta late...you never saw any changes or blue posts on feedback topics)

I've heard this game is more linear than D2 so you're not as likely to get lost...especially with quest arrows/pings

Since I'll be taking a week off for the release, it will depend on if any of my friends take time off on the day of launch. If they will be playing @ 12:01 AM then we'll play together. Otherwise I'll do single player. I have more fun with friends as far as action and gameplay, but I just click through things and can't really listen to music while playing with friends (because we're always talking) so if I want to be immersed in the music and click on all the new lore buttons I need to be solo.

Just a question, I'm finally going to get a new phone soon (the iphone 5)

Does anyone know if I buy the D3 iphone 4 case if it will fit the iphone 5?

Either just a lame troll or you really are that dumb. There is nothing official on the iPhone 5 so if you worked for Apple you would know the answer already and if not, accept it, no one else does. There's absolutely no way to know if a case will fit a not-yet-announced or even convincingly-leaked breakdown of the new phone. The best thing you can do is assume that it won't as the last two iterations required different cases than their predecessors. Considering how much progress Android has made since the iPhone 4 came out, Apple is going to have to do more than a small iterative upgrade like they tend to do to stay on top.

    Quote from Spl4sh3r

    Quote from Illythia

I feel having a loot display (outside voluntarily linking the item) sort of defeats the purpose of having personalized loot, let alone the RMAH. You know people are just going to whine about how you're being selfish because you want to sell it, rather than give it to them because "it's an upgrade for my alt". This can also lead to people blacklisting you, because you upset them.

If I get an item, I shouldn't be berated or influenced into making a choice whether to keep it or trade it. Personally, I think not showing the loot prevents a lot of unneeded drama and whining.

I don't see why this would happen. I would never give up something that is an upgrade for someone's alt since that doesn't even make sense to do. Plus they can't know its an upgrade to their alt to begin with, since the legendary won't be identified so you can't even see the stats on it when it drops.

Not everyone is logical. This wouldn't likely be an issue in a private game but anything in the game that is bad enough that people can only avoid it by not playing public games is just asking for the inevitable illogical people to annoy you. It doesn't matter that you may have the option to boot, it's another annoyance to police. If someone wants people to know that badly that they got a great item, I'm sure nothing would stop them from spamming channels with the item link (even WITH this feature enabled).

Let's consider that Legendaries will not be more powerful than perfectly randomized Rares by design...so it's cooler to get a perfect Rare but it wouldn't feasible for them to detect that you've looted a perfect one for your current build.

Please. Cataclysm had some major last minute changes and it didn't do anything to the release date. I know this isn't an expansion but Blizzard isn't going to delay the game because they haven't done adequate testing on one aspect of one class. If they were THAT much of perfectionists none of the versions of WoW would have had all the problems they had when they launched. DH will simply have the least amount of quality time spent and we may just have to deal with patches shortly after the game releases. I'm sure they put a lot of thought into whatever core changes they have planned now.

Lol, so if im into F&F beta, streaming and sharing all the info I aquire (no NDA), press/media is useless then.

What's the point in press, if by the time they are allowed to cover the beta, i'll get all info on my little site and gather all cream?

    Exactly. <_<>

Well the main selling point is these are all amateur videos, you'll be seeing VERY in depth videos all at 1080p with every class when DFans gets into press beta along with Force narrating. :)

Are you insinuating that every single person who isn't press and has access to the beta can't make high quality videos that rival "press" videos? Because if you are not then there isn't a ton of incentive when someone else can do it right now. The beta is brand new so good videos take time...and possibly less time than it will take for Blizzard to let press get involved. Frankly it was just dumb not to include press in this F&F beta if they were not going to include a NDA.

posted a message on Strongest class in the streams, your opinion.
    Quote from Kodachii

-Wizard appears to be the highest dps at low levels.
-It looks like it's hard to die as the witch doctor, your zombie dogs don't die very quickly and you can spam some spells forever with high mana regen at lower levels
-and the barbarian looks like he will be very gear-dependent(go figure, because melee weapon based characters that are meant to tank damage have never been gear-dependent before, EVER!!)
-Haven't seen much demon hunter, but they seem kinda slow dps before they get AOE spells.
-Monk is similar to barb, sorta. I doubt they get any worse (compared to other classes) as levels unlock new skills/abilities/gear. Once you have enough gear your efficiency exponentially increases. That's just how melee's and weapon damage based classes are folks.

Most games don't scale caster abilities with weapon damage. D3 does. It's not going to be quite as dramatic with the differences between caster and melee gear scaling.

I would like to know what Blizzard is doing now...

Can they "ban" from the beta, everyone that have the client installed???

I'm sure if anyone was smart enough to try to log in with their own battle.net account they could use that as a ban criteria. They could also ban your IP address, or reference your computer hardware to your beta profile and ban you that way. its not worth risking your shot at legitimately playing, just to watch a menu that will be put up on you tube in a matter of days anyway. I downloaded the downloader, but I've decided that it really isn't worth the risk of ruining my shot at getting into the beta on the off chance they do decide to ban people somehow, even if its a long shot. Plus, after some more thought, if i'm not in the beta, and the downloader isn't made available to the public to download as you please, you're basically stealing 2GB of bandwidth from blizzard...to look at the title screen. So with that in mind, I will pass on actually installing it.

I'm surprised you're willing to walk outside your home on the off-chance that you get hit by a meteor. Let's all just abandon Occam's Razor and live on extreme paranoia. They're not going to handle this any differently than SC2.

Why would Blizzard care if you downloaded the client? If anything it helps to offload traffic when the invites actually go out. It's not like you can do anything. I'm sure Blizzard would love to pre-load D3 on everyone's PC.

Surely, if they wanted us to have the client, they would reveal it and put it for open download!!...

I don't think they will like to have they're servers hacked. "Lucky" for them, now you need to be online to play...

They'll announce it available for download once people can play (i.e. servers are up and invites are active). That doesn't mean they care if people who are capable enough to look for it early get it running. Those people are likely to be less ignorant to the fact that their Battle.net login won't work and be stupid enough to call Blizzard for support.

With this evidence, even a first rank rune will allow a Wizard to spam Teleport as long as her AP permits, putting her far beyond the mobility of other classes.

It's only going to let you spam it for X time before an actual cooldown. Don't forget you're giving up a valuable slot for that mobility. Not to mention the fact that we have no idea how many you'll get AP permitting. It's not mana anymore. It's basically rogue energy. I don't believe it's even going to be remotely as powerful as D2 port.

Did you notice the magic find rune effect Barbs get? We haven't even talked about the other runes for the other classes yet. You haven't called crap until the game launches and we get some hard data.

Re everyone else on the % for cash out...they made it clear that they want you to stay within the bnet system with your money. Buy Blizzard products/subs, buy stuff in the AH. They want to give you incentive to list what you think the product is worth, and not be worried about balance changes destroying that value. Blizzard offers the cash out system because the players want it, but Blizzard knows it works against them by not keeping the money in the economy.
