    I didn't feel like making a new thread, so....necro!

I'm running into problems dealing with certain immunities on two of my characters. My sorceress is cold/lightning, and doesn't have any tools to deal with monsters immune to both (whereas my trapassin can just mind blast the monster into submission while my minions beat on them), and my druid doesn't have any skills to handle physical immunes. I'm planning to give him a Grief phase blade so it will have a little poison & fire damage, but probably not enough to actually kill anything. Any suggestions for either?

Definitely use the nightmare offensive merc. Give him a Pride cryptic axe for the 285-345% bonus damage from the concentration aura.

One of the guides on here suggests Infinity, presumably for the 83% defense reduction, which could also be handy. I still prefer Pride because you ought to have a pretty good chance to hit anyway. On my single player 85 barb that I used to test my build, he's only got 8.8k attack rating which still give him an 81% chance to hit WSK monsters. That's with relatively low end gear.

I had no idea the ladder was resetting. Know what date? I can't find any dates listed except for the most recent March 28 reset.
28th of September it seems. Every 6 months.

    Makes sense. Thanks, Deventh.

posted a message on 394 % MF enough?
394% is plenty. If you look at this chart you'll see that even if you went up to 1000% MF, your chance to get uniques & set items wouldn't go up by nearly as much as you'd hope, so you'll probably want to stick with 400% & just get gear in other slots to let you kill faster & survive more.

An um rune socketed in a weapon won't increase resists. I don't think there's a whole hell of a lot that casters can stick in their weapons that's useful. You might want to stick an ist rune in it for the extra 30% MF, which could let you ditch a Nagelring in favour of something more powerful.

MDR is Magic Damage Reduction, and PDR is Physical Damage Reduction.

ES stands for Energy Shield, a sorceress skill.

TK is another sorceress skill called Telekinesis.

So I've been told, but I appreciate the advice. I like eshield, and have used it for pretty much every sorc I've rolled. It gives me an HP buffer that refills very quickly without relying on potions, and gives me a lot more effective HP than actual HP does thanks to items like Frostburn & SoJs. Even when I accidentally blind port into a group of mana burners, I rarely die. Either I port back out (thanks to crazy mana regen I can port immediately after being mana burned) or my Occy procs & sends me somewhere else.

I won't really have spare points to drop into telekinesis for quite a while. My build finishes at about 85 and only includes 1 point in it as a pre-req. After that, I could possibly put another 7 points into the skill to at least get it down to 150% instead of 200%, but it's not a big concern since survivability isn't really a problem unless I stand in front of certain targets for too long.

    1) Is there a maximum rate of mana regen? I have max Warmth and a merc with an Insight polearm, and when I pick up a mana recharge shrine buff I don't see any improvement.

    2) Does Energy Shield take your resists into account when it calculates how much mana to deduct when you take a hit? I've been neglecting all my resists except poison since I have a high level energy shield, but it seems like it drains faster than I remember from a few years ago. But then again, that was a few years ago so maybe I'm remembering wrong or the game mechanics changed.
    1) i really dont know but i dont believe there is. mana regen probably has diminishing returns once you pass a certain %.

    2) no. only hp gets affected by resists. 95% es and enough mdr/pdr can actually make you virtually immortal!

    1) That's probably the case. Blizzard does love their diminishing returns.

    2) I have 90% ES & about 25 MDR at the moment, which nullifies all magic damage I've encountered so far. The problem is when I'm fighting the council in Travincal or the Throne. Their hydras overwhelm my shield pretty quickly if I don't teleport around a lot.

posted a message on Question about Resetting Stat/Skill Points
If you're thinking of resetting your skills/stats, then I'd go 100 strength since that lets you equip pretty much all light & medium armours, then just get dex high enough to use your Spirit long sword, put most of the rest into vitality, and if you feel like you need it put a little bit into energy. Spend the rest of the stat points you gain from leveling in vitality & a little bit of energy, maybe a 4 vitality/1 energy split or 3 vitality/2 energy.

For your skills, use this as the basis for your build, and pump your blizzard & chain lightning skills as you see fit (you should be able to nearly max out both already). You could possibly drop Warmth altogether, but you know how much mercs love to get themselves killed, so you'll want some way to regen mana when he's not around.

posted a message on How to level up amazon?
Bowazons will definitely languish until level 30+, but mine's 67 now & has been really fun. I'm using the Witchyzon guide, and have about half the recommended gear, and she hits like a truck. It's a really fantastic bow, and you can get one pretty cheap since it seems like it's not a very popular one. The amplify damage proc really makes it shine. I love when it curses monsters with the Cursed ability (ironic yeah?), and when it makes physical immunes vulnerable to physical damage.

What I dont understand is all the builds people post and stuff. How do people level up? Do they level up and put all their points and skills in at the end? or after a certain level? Or do it as they go? I want to level the legit way not some dude carrying me

I will be starting from scratch so, should I play online or singleplayer? I mainly want to do this myself, not some guy rushing me all the way through because then whats the point of playing otherwise?

Now Ive seen some stuff on youtube regarding beginners. Say I make a sorceress and make her a magic find character, Can I find armor for say a 2nd character and give him those items?

If you play online & play ladder, you'll have all content, drops, and runewords available to you, so I suggest you do that. The ladder was reset somewhat recently, so you'll have plenty of time to level and get the ladder specific stuff you want.

You can move items between characters, but without a second account it's difficult and risky. As Gotan said, though didn't quite explain completely, if you start a game with a password & hang out in it for about 5 minutes, the game will persist for a minute even if no one is in it, which can give you the time to swap to another character & get back into the game & pick up any items you left lying on the ground for yourself. The risk is that you might randomly be disconnected from B.net, or if you join/create games too quickly & too often you'll be automatically banned from B.net temporarily. Either way you lose your stuff. Don't try transferring items in public games, by the way. That's a lot riskier. Usually they'll fill up in the time it takes you to swap to your next character.

Don't worry too much about your build right away. Just put points in anything that sounds interesting at first so you can try things out & see what you like. Once you have more experience with a build or class and know what you want, you can have Akara reset your stats/skill points. Even if you use up all three of those, it's possible to reset them via special items that drop from the three Prime Evils (Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal).

If you roll on US East Ladder, hit me up.

I think its a stupid system, the people with bots have figured out the timing so it doesnt even matter for them, its just the rest of us being unable to play the game without waiting and worrying if it will work

Not to mention they use multiple accounts anyway. Good job treating your customers like criminals & not solve the real problem at all, Blizz.

So it's based on how quickly you're swapping? That does make sense. It seemed like the faster I swapped characters, the more quickly I got banned. I'll try the 6 minute afk. Thanks.
