I have read from the EU forums that the release date is potentially May 16th. They suggest that the recently announced Portrait of an Artist contest is actually a ploy to provide us with some numbers, mainly the 5mb max and the 1600x1200 resolution. These limits seem somewhat unnecessary considering current technology allows for a much larger variety. But what is even more indicative is that Blizzard has not announced a start or end date or any prizes. But its only a hunch and I haven't read about it at all on any US forums yet.

    EDIT: Portrait of a Champion*

haha i love conspiracy theories :D blizzard cant post any numbers without ppl deciphering some code XD

After that WoW Cataclysm 12.7% every number I see becomes a constant stream in my head figuring its correlation with a release. But I did not come up with this one, but it definitely seems realistic. It is far more fun than it is accurate. :P

As much as I'd like to think this might be the same thing, 5/16/12 is a Wednesday, where as almost all of Blizzards releases for years have come out on Tuesday or Thursday.. This is the new trend to release games on most people's paydays. Who knows, though?

Thanks for making the video. I like most of them, think they fairly well fit the character.

Male Demon hunter both LOOKS and sounds horrible when he laughs though. It looks like he's trying to eat something flying around in the air above his head.

I believe almost all the items they removed are ones that were listed as "still being under development" as far as the stats and mods they'd have on them? Not sure, but that might be simply because they are going to be replacing them with actual item information later, or perhaps they've redone something to the point where they are making new assets for the tooltip on the site.

Can't understand why you care so much what other people care about. So much so that a lighthearted response was met with such a hostile one.

I apologise, it wasn't my intent to seem hostile! Seems I don't have such a great sense of humour :D

Oh, well it's just hard to tell sarcasm or jokes over being serious in only text. I have the same problem myself quite a lot.

Hm, I guess the forums are for posting your opinions and discussing them. So, good on you OP. You don't like toon, we understand and are glad that you'll be using another shorthand name for your in-game characters.

I think I'll call my in-game characters BAMF's. Seems appropriate.

That does seem like a fitting term to use for the types of characters we'll supposedly have in D3, yeah.

I'll quote a post from the original thread in the official forums.

its animated and not live action, hence toon.

people will use toon forever /thread

Not that I agree with it, but it's pretty much the truth.

After responding, I checked, and as far as I can tell it comes from Microsoft Comic Chat in 1996 where people started referring to their personas as Cartoon Avatars, since they were literally cartoons as from a comic strip.

    Quote from Shuggster

I personally don't use the term myself. I just honestly can't understand why other people care what they call their characters?

Toon came from Disney's Toontown Online, did it not?

I'll let people decide for themselves if they want to use it, knowing that. :P

Your theory would be wrong in this case. Testing in the beta confirms that hatred generators give you hatred whether you hit something with them or not. I can recharge my hatred in town about twice as fast if I spam Hungering Arrow at nothing compared to just letting my passive regen refill my hatred.

I can confirm this as well, it only gives hatred on use, not on each (or any) hit. The same seems to be true of almost all generators from what I can tell, actually. Fury and spirit are given on hit, but hitting multiple targets does not provide multiple increases in the resource, for instance. In other words, they always give the same amount of their resource unless they specifically state that they give the resource every hit or every second, or whatever else.

posted a message on Diablo 3 Pvp Beta.
They have said that PvP will not be in the beta because it is not something they are balancing around, and because of the torrent of complaints it will cause because level 13 (insert class here) is so much weaker than level 13 (insert other class). They are testing it internally with their QA team, like the vast majority of the game.

No, they most certainly are not. This day and age of gaming is dark exactly because even the very people buying the games actually look at it this way. No wonder the gaming world is such garbage.

What I meant was logical and understandable was that Blizzard chooses to cater to whatever will make them the most money. Logical, understandable. Certainly not artistic, but I think that people that live in a capitalistic society trying to make money is certainly understandable.

I didn't say it was 'good', 'right' or even 'moral', but those are separate issues.

There is no attack rating at all in Diablo 3, so in that regard melee characters do not 'miss' anymore either. All classes can equally dump their efforts into damage.

Tenhi if you posted this on the US forum, Bashiok will certainly say to you that your wrong because the way it is now you have billions and billions of more builds and they are reinventing the RPG elements with this new revolutionary system, how naive can you be to eat this bs..

Not sure what you are talking about... but sounds like general QQ. First thing... what BS am I buying? Also my post isnt about "billions and billions of builds" or "RPG elements" its about the fact that having the ability to choose our runes ourselves would be way better than the way they have it right now. So if you didnt understand my Post... I'm AGAINST the auto-rune-asignment...

Edit: Just glanced through your other posts... well you are a troll. So this post is a waste and now I feel bad :( "Diablo 3 isnt Diablo 2 with better graphics... BLIZZ SUCKS"... yeah right.

You wasted a point, better re-roll your forum career! :P

On a more serious note, I understand the reason they are making these choices. Almost all of the things they are changing are to make the game more accessible and enjoyable to more people. Sadly, this sometimes means that experienced or even average gamers like the game less as a result. Yes, they want to sell as many copies as they can, get as many people to like the game as they can. Those are their reasons, they're logical and understandable, but being one of the people that actually likes thinking and games, we're the ones that have to be left unsatisfied.

posted a message on So whats the Point of Low lvl uniques if re-rolling is pointless?
There are plenty of games that were extremely popular and successful that contain gameplay elements that have since been removed from newer games because they are no longer considered to be the best way of doing things. I understand that there are strong feelings for the game to be one way or the other, but just because a game does well or people play it, that does not mean that every choice that was made when making the game was the best possible one.

posted a message on Save Basic Attack!!!
    Quote from Argency

    Quote from EngageQuadLaser

There is zero reason to use basic attacks when you have zero-cost, resource generating abilities. Consequently, there is no reason for them to be in the game.

    Fin.

Actually both the Demon Hunter and the Wizard have passives that REQUIRE the use of basic attacks.

I've linked to them below, but the Wizard's "Virtuoso" passive doubles the damage of the wand attack (where you "shoot" them with the spell, so it's not actually a melee thing) and makes it generate 15 arcane power and regenerate 1% of you total life on a successful attack. The Demon Hunter has "Fundamentals" which doubles the damage of the basic attack with a ranged or melee weapon and also makes successful attacks generate 4 hatred.

Back when we had access to 7 key bindings but only had 6 skills to assign that made it possible to make a build where you lose a passive to buffing your basic attack to be a part of your rotation, but in the process free up another skill slot for a "spender" type ability. Also looks very useful for making a melee demon hunter, which was going to be my alt. I really really hope this is oversight on Blizzard's part because the way they've got it set up at the moment, the skill UI effectively makes it impossible to use one of the skills, and also makes impossible a couple of builds which the skills seem designed to allow.

    http://www.diablo3sk...ndamentals.html
    http://www.diablo3sk...9/virtuoso.html

I remember these, but they seem to have been removed as of Patch 13, so.. I'm guessing they really don't want people using basic attack at all. I'm not sure I understand why, but perhaps it's something that really just would cause a problem later in game levels? I have no idea.

I have to agree. The new systems are fine with me, but the new skill UI is extremely horrible. Yes, in the long run it makes very little impact on the enjoyment of the game (unless you, say, really like basic attack), but it doesn't make any sense to me that they took out the much better skill UI that was already in the game to replace it with a much worse one. Why isn't elective mode just... the old UI?
