posted a message on Question about GR difficulty when playing a "Seasonal" character

    Hi,

Sorry for the potentially dumb question (this may be common knowledge that I am just now discovering) but does Blizzard lower the difficulty for Grifts when played by 'Seasonal' characters. The reason that I ask is because when I try some of the "(2.4.1 GR 80+ Solo builds - with video)" and see characters with several hundred less PP than my main toon (but roughly equivalent gear) I am astonished at how easily these "builds" seem to work with Seasonal characters but fail utterly with my character when I try the same build with the same gear and significantly higher Paragon level to boot. (For example my Paragon 922 character could not complete a GR in time at level 63 using Quin's "One Shot Monk" build (which I've used earlier variations of now and then) and yet I just saw a Seasonal character annihilate a level 77 GR using virtually identical 'One Shot Monk' gear but ~ 200 lower Paragon level.

Nearly all of my gear is Ancient, and I just happened to have virtually 100% matching gear for the One Shot Monk build but 5 minutes into level 63 with this build and my timer bar was split half purple, half tan (tan, the color of failure). On a side note, my first attempt with this build was at GR 70 (since I've actually completed a lvl 70 solo GR with a different build) and was killed 3 times at the dungeon entrance before Alt-F4'ing the game (just before being slaughtered for the 4th time in less than a minute).

To be sure, I don't consider myself an outstanding D3 ROS player but having logged over 1000 hours on my main toon I'd like to believe I have a basic understanding of how to play (a Monk anyway).

So could it be that Blizzard makes GRs a little easier on seasonal players or I do I really, really suck at D3 (or perhaps both)?

Note that I'm not complaining, it makes sense that Blizzard would (and should) cut the seasonal players a break given the relatively short lived seasons but if they don't then I obviously need to stop playing D3 and stick with my Super NES or maybe go back to coloring. (wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened, probably won't be the last... :)

posted a message on 2.4.2 Difficulty Overview

Probably just my overactive imagination but it does seem to me that the chances of getting 2 GR keys instead of one are somewhat correlated to how fast the GG goes down. Whenever I'm doing Rift runs and the team drops the GG in 3 to 5 seconds, the chance of getting 2 GR keys is considerably greater than if it takes much more than 10 seconds to drop the GG....

Of course I have no way to prove this but it certainly seems to be the case.

    Just sayin'.

posted a message on Ever wonder why few (if any) on the leaderboards cube Unity?

I lost 12.5% CDR when I uncubed Leoric's but gained back 8% by replacing a CDR-less Traveler's Pledge amulet with an 8% CDR Hellfire amulet and I am not using Inna's Daibo. Since CDR appears to be multiplicative my 'sheet' CDR dropped from 68.65 to 66.something. The ironic thing is that by cubing the Zodiac ring my CDR in-game is actually improved. I've posted my build here. Just for grins I removed the Zodiac ring from the cube for Unity last night and experienced identical phenomenon, lasers at the entrance about half the time and all over the map the rest of the time. I believe the odds of this being due to RNG are infinitesimal now.

More likely this is just an issue with my particular build because I've cubed Unity before and did not have this problem. I am going to Youtube this anomaly because it is almost jaw dropping.

Just for grins I "uncubed" unity and replaced with Zodiac ring. Just finished GR63 in a little over 11 minutes. I'm done for now and all is probably a coincidence but just seems peculiar that few Monks (if any) on the Leaderboard use Unity in cube.

Sorry if I was not clear. Before cubing Unity I could solo GR 65 most of the time. As soon as I cubed Unity my character was noticeably tougher but the Grift mobs for any given level suddenly became orders of magnitude tougher. Before cubing Unity I had cleared 65 in less than 13 minutes. After cubing Unity, beating GR 63 is 50/50 and sometimes I'll start the map with lasers dropping at the entrance. It took almost 18 minutes to clear 64 last time I tried.

Build changes to cube Unity were:

    1. Swap cubed Leoric's crown for cubed Crudest Boots.

    2. Replace formerly equipped Crudest Boots with Ancient Inna's boots.

    3. By equipping Inna's boots I was then able to swap cubed RORG for cubed Unity.

My sheet stats are virtually unchanged save a 1% change in movement speed (adjusted for by reallocating 2 paragon points) and +- 5% CHC/CHD

Certainly my CDR dropped a bit but reduced CDR should not suddenly cause a map to spawn twice as many mobs that drop lasers/poison/whatever if you don't two-shot them.

Interesting. I randomly checked a couple dozen on the Monk leader board and could not find one example. For me the difference before and after cubing Unity was like throwing a bullet vs. shooting a bullet. Perhaps I unwittingly uncovered some other potential balance issue but I always thought Blizz was pretty good with (mostly anyway) character balance.

This is probably ancient news but when you combine cubed Unity with Unity on follower equipped with 'cannot die', GR mob difficulty scales through the roof. I tried the Unity trick earlier and nearly ever mob I encountered was almost twice as tough as before I implemented this gimmick.

Great way to gain XP, not so great for pushing GR levels...
