Capping stats... The poor man's balancing solution. Let's force how end-game characters work so we can finally balance the game right.

Calling anything atm is too early. They have a lot of stuff they gonna drop on Blizzcon(according to them at least), so after that we can start to guess on when it's starting to happen. Plus the game director did say he hoped to start the beta before end of this year, so there is that. But more the beta gets delayed, means more stuff gets added, means more beta time, means longer wait..

The loot 2.0 patch will prolly be similar to wow pre-expansion patches, just getting us used to the stuff and doing a large scale bug test so exp launch doesn't fail spectacularly to something that could have been easily prevented.

Yeah because thats what happened before..

Indeed, the more the game was delayed the more features were removed :)

People are guessing a year until we see RoS. I say sooner...a lot sooner. Blizzard already gave us the info for RoS instead of holding it for Blizzcon. Which means it could not wait. Sure they will talk about it at Blizzcon but they have bigger NEWS there and don't wanna waste time with D3 then. ALSO...we all have already seen in game of RoS, so another year to do what??? Scratch their ass!!! I think not! We'll see RoS in about 4-6 months...maybe a bit sooner.

Agree here. Blizzcon is for next wow expansion and maybe peak into next SC episode. Next wow expansion this time next year, D3X needs to be way before that.

At the end of Blizzcon another 1 year deal + D3X + D3X release date

posted a message on What Made D2's Itemization so good?
This is just a very personal feeling for me, but I feel that in D2 I had to make difficult decisions all the time. I played almost exclusively solo and never traded, so I am probably not the average guy. So, every time I made a new character the journey was different (even though I made mostly bowazons), the adventure depended on the items I got and the way I customized my character. Sometimes a session with a character (I usually started to do something else when my chars turned 80-85), was completely thrown around because I would luckily found a 4 socket elite armor that I could turn into this epic runeword.

In D2 you could also customize your items with runes (use them now or save for runewords?), gems and jewels. Decisions are more or less final, with limited means to recover your them from your items.

It was also much harder to figure out if item A was better than item B. Do I want +1 to skills or a bit more attack speed? In D3 most items to me had just three properties and if the total of green change was better than the total of red change.

D2 was maybe easier (although with a completely self-found Bowazon I still could spend 45 minutes and countless townportals to kill Baal), but I liked that choice had permanence. I surely hope they are going to put some of that back into the expansion as well, but being able to respec your paragon bonus points does not look promising.

posted a message on RoS - not until next year. BUT:
Well, assuming that the expansion of D3 probably is a competitor for the next expansion of wow, an early 2014 release seems logical. That way then can release the Wow expansion just after the summer of 2014 and announce a new annual pass deal + RoS release date at Blizzcon. By what I see of it, the act and crusader looks pretty polished as it is and the proposed system changes are quite well received.

I agree, after trying out 10 random names I just hit some random keys on my keyboard. My char is now named Sdfoig or something.

posted a message on Ideas To Keep D3 Playable
    Quote from LegDropper

listen you are all missing the point... i still do not see 1 idea. complaining about what is current is not going to expand the game... 1 step at a time takes forever... widen your thoughts... dont just wait for them to come out with a new patch every 3-6 months and then say o it wasnt good enough we need to change this this and this... doesnt make sense to me? looks like whats being heard isnt cutting it... NO ONE should be waiting for the itemization patch which many are tell the truth... ask anyone that plays this game THE DROPS SUCK! read up someone said its not worth it to play a game that is not rewarding... the proof is in the pudding what has been done isnt up to par... i bet if i never said anything about this idea of my VERSION of the endless dungeon and it was released on the ptr HOW MANY DO YOU THINK WOULD PLAY? lbr.

dont get mad at me because i came up with an actual good idea. i dont see anyone else doing that.

would you not want to spawn in a random area with nothing but all kinds of elite packs and tons of affixes popping off around you? i believe that is something different and enjoyable.... its rare to group 3+ elites at once.... imagine doing it more often...

hmmmm lets recap on what has been done so far guis!!!! more leveling!!!! new legs!!!! more nerfs!!! more buffs!!!! more mobs in other acts!!!!

building on what is already normally done.... very boring.... change the game add new content not just items... like game modes... ubers and dueling was a great idea... add more like that

I think my main issue with this thread is that you are like the worst topic moderator I have seen in a while. You shout out one chewed off idea that has been floating around since forever as if it were the next revolution in gaming. You open up the door to a major flamewar by a blunt statement that everyone is tired off as well.

I think that till the expansion there is no way they can make the game immersive and compelling enough for me to really enjoy it (I enjoyed the first 80hours I played though - so I now complaining). I just don't like a lot of the decisions they made with respect to character customization, item balancing and even the art. Just about the only thing that makes the game stand out above all other arpg I have played is the way in which you control combat.

Anyway, I think the best you can is just to close your iexplorer / firefox or random apple or google crap and boot up the game.

The main point of the whole slide is not in the news item: 'Focused on our largest and highest margin opportunities'. Sound from a business and shareholder point of view, but where is the focus on bringing the best experience to their (future) customers :). I really don't like that everything that happens these days is governed by big companies that focus on nothing else than short term shareholder value and bottom lines. They don't care about their customers (cows to milk) or their employees (squeeze them until collapse and then kick them out).

posted a message on Diablo 3 Director Jay Wilson: Auction Houses 'really hurt' game
    Quote from DeepThought

Does anyone else feel it is absurd that they "assumed" players wouldn't make extensive use of the Auction House?

The number one goal for many players of the Diablo franchise is to collect equipment of ever-increasing power for your character. The Auction House makes this incredibly simple and efficient.

Did ANYONE think that the default position players would take with the Auction House is ignoring it? I didn't.

Or even easier, they could have done a real (closed) beta test...

It is very easy for them to make good selling games these days. For example, they could be making an exciting game where you sail the seas. It would be a multiplayer game and has all these very cool features. By the time the finish polishing, they are left with Minesweeper that half the world has spent 60$ on. It is nice to see that Maxis is adopting the same business model of releasing broken games.

This is a good start, but I am still not quite convinced. He does not address the obvious problem that only a few affixes and suffixes are desired (he mentions them) and the fact that there is such a huge dependency on weapon damage. They'd probably have to rethink their whole stat philosophy before it can work and is not boring.
