I'm presuming that's for the Americas, because in Europe it's a WW barb using Might of the Earth set.
Any particular reason why you haven't highlighted the other region's CR?

Yes, cromartie.
I'd really rather not have to do CR's at all, but the material benefit and short time of the CR makes them too good to pass up though.
Still hate them. They're always classes / builds I really dislike playing, or have no idea how to play.

With no generators and only two dps skills which require being rooted on the spot to do damage? Leaving yourself open quite a bit there.
Magic Missile + Attunement and another high AP use skill would be better.

Basically designed to go head first into a pack of mobs with Diamond Skin, then hit Frost Nova, Explosive Blast, Arcane Orb and then kick all the mobs away with Wave of Force before Diamond Skin runs out.
Blur is essential, but the other two could be whatever you wanted I suppose. I went for Critical Mass and Evocation to try to avoid being a one-shot-deal. Although with no AP generators you pretty much would be a one-shot-deal anyway.
I don't think it'd be very practical, but would be fun to watch.

Electrocute and Prodigy for getting AP back.
Free Ray of Frost, cheap Blizzard, Comet and Cold Blooded to not only get a whole heap of use out of slows, but also synergise them to do a fair bit of damage in the process.
For defense, I prefer Diamond Skin to Slow Time because it offers instant protection for iffy moments. Energy Armor is also helpful for staying alive in between Diamond cooldowns.

I didn't really like the merc's in D2 because they always got themselves killed or did other stupid things. Sure, the AI might be better now, but I'd rather just rely on myself and my friends in co-op. So if they do add proper merc's similar to D2, I just won't recruit any.

I believe they've specifically stated that skills will differ functionality between PvE and PvP. That way they can balance PvP without effecting PvE.
