posted a message on Monster scaling in group games (verification)

DISCLAIMER: if anyone has any new update on this information then post it please. i want this to be an informative thread not arguing over anything
I can say from experience, and past blue posts that more often than not playing in a group is the fastest way to slay monsters. Even when I join games in the beta with lower level characters who are badly geared, we still take out mobs faster than when I solo runs at max level with very high gear.

Yes, creatures scale = # of players (we've known this for a very long time), but the scale isn't high enough to make playing a group as difficult as playing alone. In other words, creatures do not have 4x HP with four players in game, it seems to be closer to 2.5x or so.

    Quote from Azjenco

It just makes sense for the game to scale with more people.I've heard that the beta doesn't, but then again, it is the beta. I think, when we actually get the game at release time we will be quite amazed at how much they've actually changed things in comparison to how they are currently in the beta.
Monsters do scale with player numbers in the Beta. This is even identified by a text marker on the bottom left of the screen the same as Diablo 2 displaying "-Player Name- Has joined the game, the minions of Hell grow stronger", or something along that line.

    Quote from Eggtchup

I'm remembering that they said some time ago that they want to encourage players to play multiplayer by giving team based play loot in a quicker phase, therefore more loot. And without difficulty scaling, therefore it would be hard to solo. I guess things have changed, they sure change their minds often.
I personally do not recall ever hearing that. For a long time it has been that loot drops are the exact same when playing solo, or in a full game. The only benifit to playing with others is even with the monsters scaled up, you're still going to be mowing down mobs faster than you would be with less players, thus killing more monsters per minute, end result being more chances to drop loot.

    Where was the amulet found?
Random zombie drom the Defiled Crypts. More specifically those who appear from the collapsing rubble after a few seconds. After I got the amulet drop I don't miss out a single one of those guy.
I almost always skip those guys because they take so damn long to pop out of the ruble.. I'll wait for them now :)

That's the first one I've seen. Either they're extremely rare, no one feels like selling them, or the AH amulet section is broke.. lol

Blizzard might add a no sales or transfer or gifting of item in the terms of getting the gift bag.

I think almost any Diablo fan would want that miniature. Too bad that the sword is not going into Diablos head.

I bet there will still be a few over-priced ones floating around Ebay, I hope so anyway lol.

@Winged - Seeing as you stated you have some experience in this, does XP/kill or quality of loot increase with more people in a game?

Nothing scales with more or less players other than monster stats, and maybe the amount of monsters. Not 100% sure on the second part. I know from past Blue Posts though that there is no EXP, or Loot scaling with more or less players. The only benefit to grouping up is to kill enemies faster, even though they are scaled up a bit. This makes for more chances to drop loot, since you are in fact killing more monsters per minute.

    Hans covered it really.

The best item I crafted was a rare Orb from the Blacksmith. I've crafted about 6 of these, since you can sell them for much, much more than it costs to craft them.
Do you think being able to do this will be problematic in the full release? If you can afford one orb, can't you just keep cashing it in for more and more money? Or is it like, once you use the recipe for a rare orb, you cannot use that recipe again?
Doing this kind of thing in the full release will be far more difficult come later levels.

You can use a recipe as many time as you want, or craft the same item as many time as you want as long as you have the supplies. Come release though, no one will be looking for these low level items which are so easy to craft. Since you'll be level 60 (max level) by the end of Hell, people will then be looking for End-Game items at that point. To craft these items you'll need to salvage items from that difficulty, which will be much harder to get.

I'm sure this will happen to a small degree, but those people will be working for it since they'll be gathering supplies to craft true end-game items. Also, I guess you could try to keep selling low level items to low level players, but the gold you'll be receiving will be pennies at that point. Right now in the beta these are considered end-game items, that's why they're going for so much. Since they are in fact not even close to true end-game items though, they're very easy to make. So the profit at this point is insane compared to the cost to make them. This is just because we're stuck at super low level content.
