posted a message on How do you think the Monk will fare in PVP?
Even if the monk isn't fantastic at 1v1, being an unkillable healer/support with some DPS and crowd control via stuns sounds pretty amazing for team pvp (which is what I mostly care about).

It's pretty hard to predict though because the skill/rune stuff we see in the character calc are very clearly not going to be their effects in PvP (unless they're planning on 100-0 stunlocks being the norm).

Even if the make it something that 'needs 4 people', I know without a doubt that 2 competent people could do it, because their standard of skill for players is probably really, really low. And then once you get good gear I can easily see 1 competent player doing something 'intended' for 4 people.

    Diablo 3 = your girlfriend
Diablofans = friend1, loyal and can hold back
Incgamers = friend2, upfront and opinionated

If you know you'll be with your girlfriend for a long time, why hang out with friend2 that someday you might punch in the face for being who he is so I think I'll hang out with Friend1 more.

My bad if this is a bit too cheesy :)

    I like it.

That would be interesting. I wonder if it's a shield that absorbs a certain amount of damage or absorbs all damage for a certain amount of time.

If it's an immunity shield, does 7 Sided Strike still make you immune to everything while animating? Giving monks 2 immunity abilities?

What exactly can you do with macros in D3 anyways? Unless they have some terrible interface that doesn't allow you to 1 button hotkey everything.

posted a message on Which Weapon Will Your Monk Use?
Voted dual fists since the +crit passive for dual wielding looks to be one of the biggest DPS increases available. But the weapon type itself doesn't matter, just the dual wield (assuming the base DPS is competitive with 2h ofc).

    Quote from baso80

I mean simplyfying game mechanics such as skill trees and such so that the casual gamer instead of playing Barbie with his character, that is worrying about what 1 point to use in that skill reading huge guides on min/maxing and getting maximum amount of headache and spending 50 minutes worrying about the skill trees and dresses and playing only 10 minutes, they can now just jump into the action ASAP when logging in.

I thought people did that stuff because it was fun. :( Well I find it just as fun as playing the game, at least.

For a game to be an esport, skill has to be everything though. It doesn't matter if you can beat people with better gear who are bad. In an esport setting, everyone will be really, really good at the game. Everyone will be about as good as you. And then the guy with the better gear will win. Or the guy who lucked into a skill/rune setup that counters yours. Or the guys who lucked into a team comp that counters yours.

posted a message on Which class will be the most popular and why?
I voted demon hunter, assuming the perspective of someone who knows nothing about the game, starts it up and looks at the class selection screen. 'Cool' name/atmosphere etc etc.

If a class is overpowered that might shift things. Or maybe our demonhunter newbie who's previous gaming experience is farmville won't even know if a class is OP or not and just stick with the demonhunter until they quit the game at lvl 42.

Do we know why they are so intent on not making the game a viable e-sport? This is why I figured they might just be being lazy...

They could reach a new audience with this game AND make it an e-sport (Which also makes the game deeper/better). But that would definitely be more work, and they can probably grab the same number of players regardless with this "casual" game. So why do all that extra work right? If they figure they'll make the same money anyways.

So when they justify leaving out portions of the game because it is not part of their "vision", are they really just being lazy but obviously don't want to say that? (lazy=savvy from a business perspective I suppose :P)

Because they looked at WoW and realized trying to turn an RPG into an e-sport is completely idiotic. I say this from the perspective of someone with multiple gladiator titles, a rank 1 title, and I also played at an MLG. There's a reason WoW is the 'e-sport' game that every other game looks down on: it isn't cut out for it.

Diablo is cut from the same cloth, with many classes, skill setups and gear choices combining for an insane variety of options. And even your best efforts at balance will never get rid of hard counters when one comp beat another comp purely based on gear/class/skill choices.

Plus I assume Blizz will release DLC or expansions for this game, new lvls or skills maybe, new gear definitely, which will just screw up balance over and over again. WoW suffered from this, especially when expansions were released (remember season 5 anyone? LOL).

Long story short, Diablo cannot be made into a non-joke esport, so they figured they wouldn't even try. Their goal is to make it fun for as many people as possible. I can't fault them for that.

PS; I still want a ladder anyways. Ladder =/= making it an esport.

posted a message on Jay Wilson, PvP, who actually thinks like him.
    Quote from Conax

We're asking for more PvP options such as Last Man Standing. Who cares if its 100% balanced. If i dont remember it wrong Jay Wilson once said in an interview that "We can do it, we can balance it its not the problem. We just dont want it to become an e-sport".

I was just addressing the balance thing. I agree that more modes would be great.

Wilson's comment saying "we can balance it its not a problem" is complete bullshit though. You can't balance a game you just totally revamped the skill system for in a couple months.

I actually do somewhat care if it's balanced, as a former arena player with multiple gladiator titles and a rank1 title, I absolutely love competitive PvP. But also speaking as a former arena player, I'm used to things not being very balanced

posted a message on How do you feel about only 4 people in party?
    Quote from Stolemyname

Four players per game is perfect imo, it is going to be much more demanding on graphics, and it makes the game a bit more challenging in the later levels then just simply spamming the same spot and cleaning house, as mentioned above. I am in NO rush for another 8x Summon Necros spamming bone wall and mass skeletons.

Oh god yes. 4 players definitely help my aging computer out. Diablo 2 lagged on this computer with too many necro armies in a game.

I'd rather have the freedom to choose how many people I want to play with. Then again, I'm not a sheep in the Blizzard flock.

    lol
