Conservative Republican reporting in! Oh, also very PRO COP! Yes, it is a disgrace to see the incidents in which police abuse their power or are otherwise granted leeway when they deserve swift justice. Justice is supposed to be blind but unfortunately no system is without flaws. There will always be corruption in any large group. The key is keeping the corruption to a minimum. Internal affairs works like a charm at my police department. We have had several police officers arrested and imprisoned for abusing their powers and many more demoted and/or reprimanded for lesser violations. I speculate IA works well in many departments around the country, preventing some corruption/abuse incidents from ever occurring and eliminating a decent amount of corrupt cops before they can cause more problems.

posted a message on You Cannot Arrest An Idea
I almost became a mole within the anonymous 'think tank'. I had to solve two ridiculous complex puzzles (which took me hours and only a few others passed -- out of over 100) to reveal a password that I would then mention to a specific person on IRC. After the person received the correct answer to the puzzles, he linked me to a .rar file containing further information. The rar was password protected with the answer to the puzzle. Within the file were documents on how to continue the application process and how the organization was structured and operated (not very detailed). It asked what areas I had proficiency in, why I wanted to join the cause, etc. I sent in the requested information (which was quite lengthy but they didn't ask for any sensitive info) and was approved to continue. I was told to simply recruit 10 more people using the same puzzles and files I was tested with. This was in order to prove I wasn't trying to join simply to troll because it required a bit more effort and time to accomplish. At that point I stopped the process because I didn't want to become part of something that could eventually get me into legal trouble.

Now they didn't claim to be 'anonymous' but claimed to be a force around the planet with numbers growing steadily -- apparently planning operations and carrying them out. So I'm guessing that's them and I'm certain the FBI, NSA, and/or the CIA already have at least a couple of moles that know all about the people behind the anonymous hackings. They'll just wait in the shadows for months or years until they follow the tree of anonymous down to every root. In my opinion anyway. :-)

Do you think I'll ever be chosen for the beta with this connection speed? B)
That's actually a really good question, and the answer is nobody knows. That's actually a really bad connection, but maybe that improves your chances. I'm tempted to update my client with a slower connection somewhere else because I feel that they probably want more testing on those slower connections.

This is exactly my thought process. I'm tethering so it reads as very slow even though it's really closer to 150-200 kb/s (still slow but nearly as bad). Fingers crossed that my connection speed will flag Blizzard down and send an invite my way -- perhaps even early on.

My wife is in the shower getting ready for bed. I told her 11pm (Alaska time) is the hit time... and she wants me to lay down with her. Tension incoming; I'm staying up and sticking it out with you guys. But at least I can say that tonight she played the Diablo series for the first time (D2 LoD) and she seemed to like it despite being a decade old.

Yeah I work 5 hours after 12:01... but I have to be up and getting ready 3 hours after 12:01. Factor in the 2-3 hours of reading over the new information and discussing it and, well, I won't be going to sleep tonight. Feels good man.

posted a message on Beta Opt-In Software Error (Tethering From iPhone)
    Quote from Gharbad

So, all attempts to join the beta opt-in by sending my computer information to Blizzard have failed. I tried from multiple browsers, deleted cookies and deleted the file entirely and re-downloaded with each attempt -- all to no avail. Could it be because I'm tethering from my iPhone for internet? After all, it reads my network address as '0.0.0.0'.

    The error message is:
"There was a problem sending your system information to Battle.net. Please check your internet connection, close all applications and try again. For further assistance, please visit Battle.net."

A browser window is launched every time it fails, directing me to their support page: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=26886

Unfortunately, the website was no help. I couldn't find anything on Google either. Perhaps I should simply use a friend's proper internet connection to complete the opt-in with their system information? Or would this become an issue if I were chosen for the beta and my system didn't match the profile when I attempt to download the client?

    Any suggestions, my fellow D3fans?

    (inb4 extremely last minute opt-in... ;) )

I would more than likely bet that it's because of the tethering. You could theoretically run the system info on any PC and still have a chance at beta. I used to have my beta info set to an old PC and on my new PC i still managed to get in one of the WoW betas on old info, so if you have access to another computer try it on that.

Alright, well that's definitely comforting. I'll go ahead and drive over to my in-law's house to run the system info tomorrow. lol. They know nothing about computers so I won't even try to explain any of it to them. Thanks for your input.

My brother has an I mac and he is having the same problem even though he has cable internet. That doesn't really help but maybe it's an apple issue.

I'm a PC guy and I'm on an hp laptop, actually. :P I dislike Apple. I'm even replacing my iPhone with an Android in a few months. So I'm not sure what to do now.

I'm a bodybuilder, family man with a career, AND a gamer. It's a delicate balance. Eating healthy is easy, lifting weights and doing cardio is easy, and gaming is easy. It's a win-win. I'll probably play D3 6-8 hours a week. And I work out 4-5 hours a week. You can overdo anything. Don't overtrain in the gym and don't overplay vidja games. Take breaks and leave time for resting your body.

Every hour or so one should get up and walk around to stretch one's legs and give one's eyes a break. As for me, I don't endorse gaming more than three hours a day. Of course, anyone with a busy life and a lot of responsibilities (such as myself) would be hard pressed to play for more than an hour a day, save for on occasion.
