asfastasican posted a message on We should all send Jason Regier a big thank youI think most of us should take the time to send Jason Regier a big "Thank You!" for his hard work on Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 as a programmer and Lead Software Engineer. We could either all send him e-mails or contact him in some other way. I think the programmers like him don't get enough love and that both games were a lot of hard work for him and his team. We should give him some love and props as a community.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
I personally don't know the guy's email or have any other contact information of his though. Can anybody help with that? -

junbk posted a message on Met Bashiok at PAX East- Some Inferno related clarifications!I had the pleasure of meeting Bashiok (and his big bushy mustache) at PAX East earlier today and he was nice enough to answer some of my Inferno difficulty related questions. I didn't record our conversation and these are not absolute direct quotes so you'll have to trust me, haha.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
-As of now the maximum monster level in Inferno is specifically 64, not just "somewhere around 65(?)" as mentioned in his Inferno post.
Not mindblowing but interesting
-I asked him about how in what I saw of a tiny bit of what looked like Hell or Inferno footage in the Blizzcon 2011 Gameplay & Auction House Panel the monsters moved REALLY fast and would not just attack the player from where they approached but actually run past him/her and sort of do a quick slingshot and attack from an unexpected direction (http://www.youtube.c...JfTfktc#t=3077s is the footage). It took a while for him to process what I was getting at but he did (re)confirm that monsters move faster in later difficulties and that they will have behaviors like 'stop for a bit, then come at you'.
-I mentioned the "internal bets" on how many "months" it would take to beat Inferno. He now believes that it's now a "few weeks"; not months. This was after I pressed him on the whole 'what if the person goes through the auction house and accelerates his gearing that way'.
-He's not aware of any real changes in health globe mechanics (drop rates, heal amounts) across the difficulties. He did mention the passive skills that help with globes- I imagine those will help quite a bit in endgame.
-He reiterated that you need to build up your defenses for Inferno via gear and skill choices. No surprise there.
-I asked him about the whole "bullet hell" mechanics (mentioned at Blizzcon 2010 panel I believe?) where you have to sort of dodge projectiles to avoid damage (I would imagine there would be a lot of them in Inferno). He said there are certainly such things but stressed that it's really more about getting the best gear and building up your defense than that.
-Right now in internal testing he said people are finding endgame solo play more preferable to party play. He attributes this to the scaling of monsters to the amount of players not making things any easier (implying that if one person messes up and dies, it just makes it harder on everyone else). I asked him if he thinks people will make 4 player parties and try to create "roles" with their builds and successfully tackle Inferno that way. He was agreeable to the concept.
I don't think he was totally prepared for the questions I suddenly threw at him but he was great (and patient with me despite all the stuff happening around with the D3 line and a couple other guys who were talking with him)
I also want to mention that the Runic guys (who were standing around on their side of the D3/T2 area)
are awesome and Torchlight II looks and plays great too! It's a great time to be an action RPG fan. -

soulzek posted a message on MF scales same as GFApparently Blizzard thinks that magic find will always be directly equal in value to gold find. I'm not trying to challenge this, just bringing up the pattern that I've noticed.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
It appears the new affix cap on either mf or gf in beta patch 15 is about +8%. Also note is that the green gf gems and yellow mf gems always have the same value as each other on the official guide.
max gf gem = 31%
max mf gem = 31%
It's always been a curious decision to me in D3 and I haven't come to a conclusion on it yet. Which will be better... mf or gf? Or are they truly equal??? -

wishedhehadbeta posted a message on obsession with being uniqueso after so many QQ rage threads over the many months about customization i have to seriously ask.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
what is your insane obsession with being absolutely unique in a game played by millions? you do know thats literally impossible no matter what system they implement right? and no matter what system you have someone can ALWAYS copy you. very easily in fact even with obstacles in the way.
and what uniqueness was in D2? how was the customization in D2 so infinitely better?
Super unique guy: "oh im a hammerdin"
Everyone else: "yea we all have one of those....."
Super unique guy:"oh im a crazy chargdin"
Everyone else: "ya got one of those too..."
Super unique guy: "uhm..... i have ENIGMA"
Everyone else: "yep we have that on all of our characters".
Super unique guy: "der uhh... light sorc? blizz sorc? bow zon? summon necro? frenzy barb?"
Everyone else: "afraid so"
Not so unique guy: "awww you mean im not unique at all? does this mean my black nail polish and cargo shorts dont make me unique either? i drew a them....."
Not so unique guy: "well..............do you have....... 337 vitality?"
Everyone else: "not exactly... 324"
Super unique guy: "VICTORY"
DISCLAIMER: if your experiencing confusion, nausea, appear to be seeing trolling or you disagree dont be alarmed, you are just not smart enough to comprehend real customization and you still think the illusion of customization is a good thing. -

renthehen posted a message on Boss from "Black Soulstone" Cinematichttp://www.youtube.c...o%3Fversion%3D3Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Regarding the boss from this cinematic:
First off, I'd like to say that I'm very excited to have the opportunity to some day challenge this god of a creature. While I wait, I'd like to have some questions answered:
(refer to 2:52 in the cinematic for question source)
1. Does shown boss sleep with his nipple rings on, or does he take them off at night?
(if you answered yes, proceed to 1a)
1a. Given the unfortunate shape of his hands, how does shown boss equip and remove the nipple rings? Perhaps, some assistance from another species with more practical shaped hands?
I won't waste my time asking anymore questions until I get this one answered from a credible source. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Well, followers are essentially a flavor bonus to those playing through normal the first time by themselves. It provides some story elements, but more importantly it gets the idea in their head of playing with another person. You come across each of them pretty quickly in Act 1, and then they help you throughout the rest of the game if you'd like. They aren't required to beat the game on Normal, even if you're playing by yourself. Feel free to leave them behind if you like. But they are pretty awesome.
They're also tuned so that they become very weak starting in Nightmare, and then are completely unusable in Hell. Even if you're playing alone, you will probably not be using Followers past Normal - - you can try but they're going to just be one-shot back to back. They're there as a bit of flavor, to help get people into the mindset of co-op if they're a bit reluctant, and... that's about it. They won't be usable at end-game, and they'll never replace the abilities and power that another player can bring.
It provides some story elements. That's right. The companion doesn't add any more story than is already provided. Instead, the character adds color to the situation.
Official Blizzard Quote:
Followers will not stay alive easily past Normal, and if they're not alive you aren't going to be getting their bonuses. I'm sure people will try to game this, and ideally they will fail. If not we will ensure followers are not part of the end-game MF equation. They are not intended to be, and we will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure they cannot be.
They're also tuned so that they become very weak starting in Nightmare, and then are completely unusable in Hell.
They are not intended to be [used outside of normal], and we will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure they cannot be. In other words, this is JUST A FLAVOR MECHANIC FOR NORMAL DIFFICULTY.

ScyberDragon asked Bashiok if they had plans on how and when they are going to announce these remaining systems.
Official Blizzard Quote:
@ScyberDragon Yes. Very specifically.
I think they know exactly when they're going to start beta.

This is just speculation.
Blizzard would not be doing any "vague or hopeful speculation" when talking to investors, they are serious about their estimations. Furthermore, Blizzard does not want to release any game after Christmas. Doing so would be bad business for any company.
For once in your life people, believe what blizzard says, ffs.

It's not a moral boost. It's a conference call to investors so it's as accurate as they can possibly predict.
Edit: I'd also like to note that releasing any game AFTER Christmas (aka Q1) rarely ever happens.
