I was disappointed when I learned that Diablo: Immortal would be a prequel to D3 (and mobile) rather than a sequel. In the months since the announcement, I've been thinking about how D3's story could be continued with an expansion or a new title. Over the long weekend, I finally found some time to organize my thoughts in the form of a short story.

I tried to make my narrative agree with the current Diablo canon as much as I could, though I'm sure there are some contradictions I missed. Writing with someone else's characters was a challenging experience for me, but I'm glad I tried it. If you feel inclined, I'd really appreciate you giving it a read and sharing your feedback in the comments. Any and all feedback is welcome!

If you enjoyed my fanfiction, you might also like my concept for a new character class, which I posted here a while ago:

posted a message on Barbarian facial/body paint

It sounds like you were wearing the level 1 normal chest armor, cloth tunic. On the Barbarian, it doesn't show as cloth at all, but rather war paint on the chest and face.

Blue is the default appearance. You can dye the armor any color at the Mystic, or transmogrify another chest armor to look like it.

posted a message on My New Class Concept: The Nomad ("Desert Druid")
    Quote from Foensh»

There are many good ideas but there will be no more big updates anymore.

So don't waste your time making all of this. It's sad but true but Diablo 3 is dead.

I'm making it mostly for my own sake. I'm the type of person who can't stop thinking about an idea until I write or type it out, and I've been thinking about this one for a while since I haven't had any free time to write. Don't worry, it's not a waste of time to me ^_^

Which ideas in particular did you like?

The Nomad is a Dexterity-based class that combines powerful projectile attacks with darting in and out of melees to evade monsters. They can summon blades of smokeless fire, alter their forms to gain the power of desert beasts, and apply alchemical elixirs to their weapons that make all their attacks deal the same elemental damage type. Their class-unique items include Royal Scimitars (2-handed weapon), Combat Javelins (1-handed weapon), and Turbans (Helm armor).

The Nomad’s class resource is POTENTIAL. It replenishes at a base rate of 2 per second to a maximum of 100, and can be generated by Primary skills and various other means. Many of the Nomad’s skills function differently depending on the amount of resource they have stored. At Full Potential, these skills gain substantial benefits, but consume all Potential when cast. (Damage increases from consuming Full Potential are multiplicative.)

While designing this class, I focused on three key concepts:

1 - Leave room for the Druid. As you’ve probably guessed, the Druid from Diablo 2 was the initial inspiration for the Nomad. But as I developed the concept, I decided that I wanted to further differentiate the two so that there would be room for a more traditional Druid as well. That meant placing them in a different area of Sanctuary and giving them a distinct design and backstory.

2 - Elemental flexibility. Weapon Alchemy allows Nomads to switch all their damaging skills to one element type, then back to normal again. This means that players don’t need to worry about selecting skill runes from the same element to maximize damage output.

3 - Multiple methods of movement. I don’t like it when classes have only one dedicated “mobility skill”, like Blood Rush for the Necromancer. The Nomad has many different skills that provide mobility, so players won't feel as restricted.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, check out the full Google Doc for more details, including class lore and skills. I've been thinking about this concept for a while, but it's only over the past week that my summer schedule has cleared up and I've finally been able to work on it. What do you all think? Good or bad, I'd like to hear your feedback! I also posted my concept on the Battle.net forums:

posted a message on [Fanmade] Avatar (new Druid) Q&A - by Nightcrest87

I really enjoyed this. If you don't mind, I'd like to post my own ideas for some of the Avatar's in-game dialogue. Tell me what you think!

    Character Introduction

"When the Worldstone was destroyed, the resulting explosion transformed Scosglen into a barren desert. The Druids who died in the blast were the lucky ones. The rest wasted away slowly, deprived of their connection with nature and driven mad with grief. Only we Avatars, the oldest and wisest of the Druids, managed to survive...and even our power was greatly diminished. For years, we sought a way to restore our homeland, to breathe life back into our forests and fields. It was no use. Baal's foul corruption had seeped into the soil, and not even the hardiest plants would grow. Slowly but surely, we lost hope."

"But now, that has changed. Three days ago, I watched a star fall in the South. Traveling ravens tell me it has landed near the town of New Tristram, and that the dead there have risen to consume the living. I set out on the road now, driven by a new sense of purpose. I have already seen one land brought to ruin by the forces of darkness. I will not allow it to happen again."

    Upon Gaining a Level:

    - "The road rises to meet me."

    - "The wind blows at my back."

    - "The sun shines brighter."

    - "My roots grow deeper."

    - "I can see more clearly."

    - "It is the journey that matters most."

    - "One with everything, and everything in one."

    - "Each moment alive is a blessing."

    - "Fiacla-Géar...you hold me in the palm of your hand."

    Massacre / Mighty Blow:

    - "May the ravens take your eyes."

    - "May the wolves gnaw your bones."

    - "May the rivers rush to drown you."

    - "May the earth swallow you whole."

    - "Return to dust."

    - "Your day has come!"

    - "You will reap what you have sown."

    - "There'll be none to mourn for you, hellspawn."

    - "You'll make good fertilizer."

Not Enough Will To Use a Skill:

"I have not the Will for that."

    "I lack the Will."

"My Will is not strong enough."

"I must build more Will first."

    "The cost is too great."

    Skill on Cooldown:

    - "Be calm."

    - "Patience is a virtue."

    - "To every thing, there is a season."

    - "I need time to grow."

    - "I must center myself."

    Low Health:

    - "It cannot end like this!"

    - "Best to retreat."

    - "No...it is too soon..."

    - "My roots wither..."

    - "The clouds gather..."

    - "The river has run dry..."

    - "My connection fades..."

    Inventory Full:

    - "I am no beast of burden."

    - "This will only slow me down."

    - "I cannot run free if I am weighted down."

    - "Don't get greedy, now."

    Cannot Equip Gear:

    - "I am unfamiliar with this item."

    - "They never spoke of such things in Scosglen."

    - "Best to leave this for someone else."

    - "I think not."

I would try to record some of these, but I'm thinking this character would speak in an Irish or Scottish accent...and I can't do either of those to save my life.
