Apparently first impressions count too much on forum boards. Perhaps I should've just left out the name entirely.Quote fromNINJA (For lack of a better name)
Some people will debunk this fairly fast because they are thoroughly convinced that the 5th class HAS to be some kind of masterful bow&arrow type class. Well, who said ninjas can't use bows? Ryu Hayabusa uses a bow in at least one of his games(though not very effectively). I'm not saying the 5th class WILL be ninjas, but definitely possess similarities(so, in a sense, somewhat similar to the assassin as well). Ninja is just probably the closest I can think of to this type of class, without reusing the term assassin.

True, which is why I brought up the spiritual thing. More of the non-elemental type damage like the Paladin's Ethereal Hammer. With a limited alternate mana like the one I described in OP, the AA wouldn't be able to spam much without kiting/tanking.Quote fromMy only problem with the class is that blizzard is trying not to have an overlap with characters. Adding magic to arrows doesn't make it much different from just casting the magic like the wizard. Maybe if they gave him earth/wind magic it would be different but Blizzard said they are probably not adding any new elements.
I don't see how a ranged class could not make him/her different from the Wizard. Most active skills are essentially spell casting in a more physical form. The only way I can think of to make a more unique class that doesn't seem spell casting-based is to create a good alternate mana system and utilize the type of weapon to have a more profound effect in battle.Quote fromImho the Amazon was too much of a caster class which made her very boring to play. There was hardly a difference between playing a ranged Amazon versus playing a sorceress, except the Amazon can't teleport.
That's why I want the new ranged class to not have magical abilities, and to specifically have some things that make him/her different from the Wizard.
An idea I had: AA class using javelins. As everyone knows, javelins can be used for melee combat as well as throwing. Perhaps give the AA a kamehameha(essentially a much larger/wider Necro's bone spear) that damages, slight knock back, and leaves a debuff/status ailment. This would cost the AA his/her entire reserve of alternate mana, which could take over a minute to fully regenerate. Now, in Diablo gameplay, a minute is a very long time. You should be done with the current mob and onward to the next. This means that the AA could run up to the targets and attack them physically, taking advantage of the weakened enemies and debuff.
I think that all you have to do is not overpower the class' skills in terms of damage and rather focus on them being a tool set of debuffs and various other effects. Who said the AA had to be elemental?
Another idea I had: Imbues the next thrown/shot projectile to explode/implode with gravitational force on impact. Perhaps it takes 1/2 of the alternate mana system. It would force the target to explode/implode with gravitational force, pushing/pulling enemies from/to the target. Not exactly spammable if you can only use it 1-3 times per group of enemies. Just don't overpower the damage. More of a set-up skill for group initiation(pull together enemies) or solo play(push apart enemies).
I think there's a shit-ton of possibilities with this kind of character. And I wouldn't say unlikely just because we've ruled out all the elements.

Wouldn't an Arcane Archer sound awesome? I mean, everyone is rogue this, ranger that. I personally wouldn't like either of them. Stealth is not needed in Diablo. An ordinary ranged character is boring and redundant.Posted in: Unannounced Class
So why not the ARCANE ARCHER? WOO!
Background story; I'm sure Blizzard could make up something good. Maybe they were exiled Amazons whom sought the Sorceresses for guidance. Picked up on their teachings. Or exiled Amazons that went to the Druids/Monks for guidance. Shrug.
Passive/Toggle ability that either adds magical damage to ranged auto-attacks or converts a % of the physical ranged damage to magical.
Active abilities like multi-shot would finally make sense! I mean, who really believes an Amazon can fire 30+ arrows in a perfect arc? Especially while using a crossbow! Lol.
Maybe even have a full skill tree dedicated to spellcasting? Another to ranged weaponry? The final could go in any direction. Possibly even into a spiritual branch, which includes buffs/protection/debuffs.
Alternate mana system? Call it a spiritual system. Somewhat of a Rogue's reverse combo points from WoW. It's 5-10 spheres which depletes when a skill requiring spiritual energy is used, then regenerates when a set amount of time passes. Some skills might use more than one sphere. Limits spellcast spamming, forcing you to rely on physical skills/attacks just as much and choose wisely what skills to use.
Honestly, I don't think this could happen. However, I think it's a neat idea that could be an expansion charater. Anyone else like it?

Nice find! It happens twice in the video: 6:33 and 6:55, for anyone that wants to skip ahead. Awesome.Quote fromThere is a part in this gameplay video of the monk/wizard/barb in co-op where the wizard uses her slow time and the monk spends a little time fighting in it.(leaving it though to kill the baddies out of range.)

Just a random scenario that came to mind.Posted in: Monk: The Inner Sanctuary
Wizard's Slow Time + Monk's attack skills = Awesome?
Discuss! Just been thinking about fun combos to play with.
edit; posts from below:

1st -> Wizard. Monk. 5th. WitchD. Barb. <- LastPosted in: Demon Hunter: The Dreadlands
5th could probably move up to 2nd or even 1st if it impresses me.

The Merc. Revamp him a little to look more like a desert raider/assassin and he sounds like a badass idea. Everything seems to fit in pretty nicely. Bows, spears, traps AND auras seems a bit overloading for one class though.Posted in: Unannounced Class

And always start with "New idea" lol
Thanks, but I don't think this is the same case. I only used the name to get a better feel for the type of character. Honestly, I don't know what kind of name might be more fitting for the Diablo III genre, but I didn't mean NINJA, like OMG KATANA TATAMI NINJASTAR NARUTO rASENGAN! No. It'd basically be something along the lines of an assassin, shadow warrior, demon hunter, silent killer type character. Something like how if we were thinking up a name for the Necromancer, I might've not thought of that name and used Summoner. Then you'd omgbash me for saying FINAL FANTASY FANBOY GTFO.I'm not saying the 5th class WILL be ninjas, but definitely possess similarities(so, in a sense, somewhat similar to the assassin as well). Exactly what I'm thinking. Ninja was just the closest I could come up with, without using the word assassin. The first two trees(ranged and movement) are definitely fitting, but the rest are just possibilities. I think I meant to say 'shadow movement' instead of 'stealth movement' as I didn't mention any 'stealthy' moves. Lol, oh well.Quote fromI like the idea of a ninja, I came up with a build to play the wizard as one. AS for your class mentioned, I love the ranged tree idea. I actually like your stealth tree idea but not the name of stealth. Stealth is unnecessary in Diablo. I do like all of the effect spells in that tree. I don't care for you close-quarters tree. I feel it doesn't really bring anything to the character. I think if you replaced it with the traps idea, it would be great. Unfortunately, with the Wizard being "Asian" oriented, I doubt we would get another Asian themed character.
I think taking all of these ideas but putting it do a different lore would be very possible.

Posted in: Monk: The Inner SanctuaryQuote fromreally confused on why the monk is seen to anyone as a supportive class? from what i have seen he seems like a pure offensive class. He rushes large groups of mobs in less than 3 seconds 50% of everything seems to be dead. I'm not sure what all the abilities are that the monk has or will have upon release but he seems to me as the 'rogue' of the classes. No daggers or swords but very fast and agile i highly doubt this will be a purely supportive class
I don't think anyone said he was going to be purely supportive. No one will doubt he can hold his own in single play, as ALL Diablo characters should. However, he just has more supportive skills than everyone else(everyone else having like.. None? Lol). Making him the MOST supportive character of all the classes.
