posted a message on Skill Points Removal Fuels Game Controversy
I think that this is so much better the Diablo 2 and looking at the gameplay I think "meh", but thinking about actually playing it makes me think "fun"

I reserve judgement until beta, but so far I can't really fault them for anything I've heard about so far.

I'm quite happy with the Auction House. This way I can make some money out of the game I'll be playing for years in a quite safe and legal way.

The amount of information given was (finally) huge too!

Yes, in essence, the real money AH does not differ significantly from 3rd-party trading sites like D2JSP conceptually. It will just be infinitely safer and the destination of the cash is better known.

I raged for 15 minutes myself when I learned about this. But then I started to think about D2JSP and how the economy there worked and was stable mostly due to the real money stopping any gigantic inflation.

Knowing full well just how rampant real world trading was in Diablo 2 all I can say is that this is great.

As I think the game will be relatively unhackable you won't have to worry about duped items, and there won't be exorbitant prices on items that the site claims aren't duped, everything being sold you know you're getting for real. Plus you can sell your items on the real money AH, you will get money with which you can put back into the game.

The fact is Diablo 2 had real world trading, and lots of it. So they put the system in and made it safe, and legit, and AH's in general are a great idea for Diablo 2 as it was very hard to sell items in D2 that weren't amazing (but still somewhat valuable) and you always had to worry that what you were getting was duped.

Mostly I support this based on these things:

    • No duped items
    • People would pay for items anyway
    • People would pay for gold anyway to buy things on the AH, making it no different from spending real money on the game
    • Auction houses for this game are awesome
    • People would sell and buy characters/accounts anyway, happens all the time in wow, less so in D2 due to ease of leveling up a character and who wants to pay for what is not a huge time investment
    • Realistically, who can remember having it easy in the D2 economy? It wasn't easy. Everyone with lots of extremely valuable stuff either botted or bought it off people who botted, it was a botting problem
    • I am rather assuming there will be no bots in the game
    • It is not a full-on microtransaction system, Blizzard is not putting any items artificially into the game, everything on the AH will have been dropped and found by players

On a side note: I wonder if you can sell gold on the gold-orientated AH? :P

posted a message on Dangerous gaming too long?
I used to enjoy playing starcraft 2, every 2nd game I'd get up and eat and drink, do something around the house, analyse the game in my head that sort of thing. It was easy to do because the game wasn't endless, it would end and then you could just wind down a bit.

However as a person who considers themselves fit I don't worry about how much time I spend gaming. I spend 4 hours on the train everyday going to school and then the multiple hours of sitting down at school, if anything I'm more likely to develop a clot and die because of that then the comparatively small amount of time I spend playing video games.

I don't think we'll have people telling you that you shouldn't be using those boots, or those gloves, with your build. I mean how could anyone assume that the items your wearing at the moment of inspection are the absolute end-game items you want in your final build. I know a few of my characters have everything but one item and if someone told me I should be using the item I want I'd tell them to give it to me :P

Also I configure my characters in D2 to have less then the best gear, especially with runeword items I just find a good unique item substitute.

    3) My hirelings die...a lot. I started off with Act II prayer mercs on all my characters at first just because most of them didn't have life leech or much regen, but now most of them have holy freeze mercs instead. I figured the slowing effect would help keep the mercs alive, but it hasn't. Even in packs of normal enemies, my mercs generally live with little to no problem, or they're slaughtered horribly & quickly. There's no in between. I've tried upgrading their gear for more damage, defense, resists, whatever, but they still die. I even tried an Act III cold sorc thinking he would stay at range, but he consistently wanders into the middle of groups & gets himself killed. Any advice on how I can stop throwing away gold on these guys?

I don't know how well geared they are but they're really not useful unless you have really great gear. When you do get really great gear they rock. I do mean really great gear I don't know what kind of gear you have, but hirelings are so hard to make viable.

iirc only act 2 mercs are any decent at all don't bother with any others.

    Quote from Doomscream

Although I am a really big fan of SW I won't be playing TOR, because it will be subsription based and it's a freackin MMO and I won't have that much time to play it, while I can allow myself to play D3 less intensive when exams and stuff approach.

OH darn. Welp I never want to go into subscription gaming again. It's a lot more expensive then getting one game at a time.

Not that I was going to play only one or anything. I think D3 will see a loss of players because of this.

I maintain that Blizzard should sell some beta keys on eBay or on their own auction site.

Of course, send out the beta tests you want to send out, to test various hardware and whatnot, but, then put say 5,000 beta keys on eBay at $20, then another 5,000 as an auction. Assuming you get $20 for both, that's $100,000 in return for having only 10,000 extra people download the beta (which could be delivered via a torrent, but needing the key to activate)

I remember the Starcraft 2 beta keys going for mega bucks on eBay.

Because of coarse Blizzard needs MOAR MONEY!!!

While usually a good way for saving time while getting the gist of a post, I'm not going to lie and say that it's never lead me to misunderstandings. Lol.

I am a bit different, I either read it all or I barely read it at all. I might try that out next time I don't want to read a long forum post.

EDIT: except for wiki posts where I always read it whole way through in order to proof read it.

I'm glad because I never got godly uber well geared in D2, became pretty well geared on my characters but I never botted and botting was really the only way to get good gear.

posted a message on Comp Rig Help!

I think that was well done, I was going to suggest he make a post there.

"If you are spending 3k you can buy whatever you want. AMD is just generally cheaper with about the same speeds and quality."

No, AMD is not about the same speeds and quality at all. An i7 2600 does beat the 1100T in all benchmarks, and it overclocks like a beast. If you're spending 3k you want a fast computer, and intel is the only way to go for the fastest speed.

I say you should sit on your laurels and wait for bulldozer, the new intel 22nm chips, nividia new range of graphics cards. Or basically: just wait a few months for new hardware to come out before buying. You don't want your fastest gaming computer ever to become not as fast as possible in just a few months. And with the release of new tech old tech becomes cheaper so that is one way you could save a few bucks. As this is a work and gaming computer you have to make a decision on just how much it's a work or gaming computer. If you're going to spend most of your time gaming on it then it's probably worth it to get a gaming graphics card while you're going to spend most of your time working on it it's probably best to get a decent work grade card.

I don't want to spend the time necessary to think about a 3k computer for you, but you should reply with some answers to the questions about how much work you're going to be doing vs gaming.

If you are kiting a bunch of demons and your teammates are depending on you - you don't want to be plagued with the loot equivalent of a dog going "squirrel!"

Man I hope that the gameplay is as good as that sounds.

    Quote from Ophion
I watched a playthrough of D2 where one guy literally picked up everything, even arrows and keys, through the entire game.

Man that guy would have a nightmare on his hands after a successful cow level run...

Also: Probably classic functionality. I'm used to it and it makes sense, toggle names on when you want them, toggle them off immediately as soon as you're doing picking through the dropped loot.
