So I'm about to make a new character but I'm not sure what are good ones for soloing in hell (and maybe also against the ubers). I'm interested in Amazon, Assassin, and Sorceress. And is the Daggermancer any good? Anyone have links to builds and equipment setups?
Actually, a MF build wouldn't be too bad either. I used a Summonmancer for MF runs, always works really well. Unless there's a build that can kill faster with /players 8 and MF gear
Other than the auras, why do most builds recommend the A2 merc over the A5 merc? Does the A5 merc have less HP/DEF?
EDIT:
I just tried to fight Uber Andariel with my Fury Druid. I lost pretty badly, despite having lvl 33 skills, 5300 HP and BOTD ogre maul. I just couldn't leech enough health back, she's too fast.
Let me preface this by saying that I love Diablo and I'm not belittling it. I was just curious about how Diablo is similar to Castle of the Winds. It seems like Blizzard copied a lot of things off of that game, and i'm not saying that's a bad thing. It's just interesting to me. I don't know how many people are already familiar with the similarities, but i'd like to share.
Castle of the Winds 1989, Diablo 1996
Things in common with Diablo:
character inventory http://lkbm.ecritters.biz/cotw/8006003.png
"sage" identifies things for 100 coins
Bastard Sword is the highest damage 1-handed sword
two ring slots and amulet slot
belt slots
equippable capes
books teach spells and skills
scrolls, books, staves
Teleport, Identify, Fire Bolt, Detect Monsters (infravision)
Rune of Return= Town Portal
Draught of Gain Strength = Elixirs of Strength, etc
environment traps
15 dungeon levels in CotW1, 16 in Diablo; 25 total with Hellfire, CotW2 has 25
The town of Bjarnarhaven looks somewhat like Tristram, with the fountain in the middle. http://i.imgur.com/ViC9f.png
King Lifthransir and King Leoric are similar in some ways:
Lifthransir was invaded by Surtur, who was seeking the Helm of Storms. Lifthransir tried to banish Surtur, but was defeated and cursed to live as a shade in the castle. Leoric tried to banish Diablo but became possessed. Eventually Leoric went mad and became the Skeleton King and had the "Undead Crown".
Surtur is a Fire Giant God, vaguely like Diablo: http://i.imgur.com/M8ktC.jpg
He's the final boss
"Surtur is the one so named who stands on Múspell's border, guarding the land. His sword is flaming and as the world ends he will go out, make war against and triumph over the gods. And he will burn the whole world with fire"
true but if we don't care, especially about good features being nerfed or removed, then the next game sequel that blizzard works on may nerf or remove more things, and we'll be even more pissed off. and as long as we don't voice our concerns, blizzard won't know that we are pissed off. therefore blizzard won't change or appease its customers.
hmm... all of you do have some valid points, but still i thought i wasn't the only one that liked many of the things D1 and D2 had. i guess i'm an oldschool old fart.
Huck- notice i never mentioned D2. i personally like many of the things D1 had, but those were removed in D2
SFJake-
potions are almost necessary especially against bosses and any future superuniques. life and mana orbs force you to keep attacking a boss even if you are at 10% health. you no longer have the option to run away a little and recuperate with a potion.
the attribute modifying is really needed for hybrid builds or just the flexibility of builds.
i liked the concept of trading with other players. it sort of forced me to be more sociable with others and i made a lot of friends that way. if trading and chat channels are removed, we are essentially removing the ability to make friends easier. no trading and chat becomes "hey wanna do diablo runs" instead of offering the flexibility of talking about trading and generally chatting in the channels.
i've been reading posts by Bashiok over a couple years. He makes some valid points about what needs to be changed or removed. Some things if removed would make Diablo 3 less Diablo and more... some other game. I'm not saying the changes are good or bad, but if D3 doesn't feel like Diablo (as in part of the Diablo series), then it's not successful in that regard. I'll likely still play D3 when it's released but i just wanted to see if other people feel as i do.
Also note that i'm not 100% certain on certain things and those are marked with a question mark. And some of these things are still undecided, by Bashiok. I'm starting to question if he is the only team member that makes all the decisions himself, and rejects all other team member's ideas.
And yes, i realize that the D3 team isn't the original team, it's a "new" team and that they are "split up" working on WoW and other stuff.
Anyway, below is a list of features that have been declared by Bashiok to be altered, removed, nerfed, or replaced.
features removed, nerfed or not included:
trading
attribute modifying
equip most items on any class
potions
weapon switching
quests given by NPCs
chat channels
traps
full 8 player parties
necromancer and his LARGE army, or just cool summons
shapeshifter class
modding support
skill tree (changed?)
gambling (?)
online content in single player (?)
pvp (?)
gold/currency (?)
i've never fought Uber D but now that i have Plugy i can. as soon as i entered a game and saw the message about SOJs were sold, i sold my SOJ but nothing seemed to happen (in Hell).

yeah, how come there isn't screenshots, videos, and artwork yet? not from blogs, but like you said, an overview of images. it's also nice to get our artwork featured on the main page when we upload them.
well, one of the reasons why i like diii.net is the extensive images and videos. i have tons of artwork that i can't upload to diablofans simply because there are no image sections
i know about undead. feral rage does not work against nearly all monsters in normal, nightmare, or hell, including the act bosses and uber bosses. and my attack rating is over 9,000
emilemil- i've confirmed it from a skill calc, it gave me the same exact HP. +20 to all skills, 1 point in blood golem, 1 in golem mastery, etc and 20 points in CG equals +20k HP
so, my Clay Golem now has 20,000 HP. is that a bug? i remember vaguely that i still had 9,000 HP and i put in another point into CG, and equipped annihilus. then eventually 1-2 levels later i noticed that he had 17,000 HP.
