Big ups to the tomb viper for throwing out the Shocker! "Two in th--"
Oh wait I forgot, I'm not that big of a douce bag.
But seriously, the whole facebook "likes" thing is getting absurd (<--or almost any other adjective for stupid or ridiculous). Bribing people to advertise your game by rewarding them with little packets of data which effectively function as advertisements in and of themselves... I really hope they are actually making a good game when they need a break from trying their hardest to generate hype...

Mar 20, 2011Pure_Physics posted a message on Rune Swapping Restrictions PollI didn't read any of this, but I think Mystic (or just being in a neutral area, like town) without a fee should be fine. Or maybe have a nominal fee (that scales with rune level, not with the number of uses) to remove a little bit of gold from the economy.Posted in: News
I worry that socketing or desocketing runes might get so expensive that players are discouraged from doing so... which means they are less likely to experiment and figure out what is most fun for them. I remember in WoW being really neurotic about figuring my talent spec out way before I even started a character for fear that I would incur the increasing fees of the talent respecs by making mistakes. I don't think that sort of increasing fee system feels like it fits in a Diablo game, especially in the beginning when everyone (who didn't play beta so they could only play the finished product) is just experimenting and trying stuff out because it's cool. Also keep in mind that in games like WoW, one can reasonably expect to obtain certain items which almost allows an entire character's leveling progression to be planned in terms of skills, items, and talents. Diablo has a lot more randomness built in and I feel like skills and skill runes to some extent may be the player's way of balancing their character and the random gear that they have found.
I can understand having things like adding sockets and removing gems from sockets be a little bit more expensive because gear is essentially a way to confer passive bonuses to the player (especially if the prices are scaled by the quality of the gem and item). But discouraging players from experimenting with all the iterations of their currently owned skills and skill runes seems like it's the opposite of what Blizzard is all about...
Sorry if this made no sense, I am so tired. Goodnight! -
Feb 9, 2011Pure_Physics posted a message on Activision Blizzard Q4 2010 Financial Results Conference CallMost Recent Blue Post: Bash suggested that we shouldn't rule out a 2011 release. Even still...Posted in: News
My schedule allows for me to be very happy with a D3 release that occurs before May 2012, and I think it has a good chance of being "done" by then. If it comes out after that, oh well, I'll still enjoy it when I have time.
I think we are down to the home stretch for this game's release (like the last year or so of waiting)... And as we've waited so long as it is, it's not really that much more time.
But if you sit around and bitch and moan all day about the lack of release date or beta; or if you can't handle the thought of a Q1 2012 instead of a Q4 2011 release, you're doing it wrong. Many of us have waited for D3 for a decade or more, another Quarter(!) is insignificant especially if it means that they will be that much closer to putting out a product worth the wait and the Diablo franchise logo.
My suggestion to the true Diablo Fans, many of whom are probably like myself and working at careers and succeeding at adulthood: spend the next year working hard to improve your life. Blizzard will reward you with Diablo 3 before you know it and you'll really enjoy it after having worked so hard...
Oh yeah and video games are supposed to be a fun diversion. So if you get your panties in a wad and throw a temper tantrum because "Bwizzard won't rewease D3 soon enough!" I think that you have personal problems. Maybe try to prioritize your life and work toward that antiquated virtue of delayed gratification. -
Oct 19, 2010Pure_Physics posted a message on Male Barbarian Armor Set RevealedMaybe they didn't show the monk armours because they didn't think of showing off the sets until 3ish weeks before blizzcon (and really liked the two per week schedule) or wanted to throw the first three announced classes a bone (/rekindle excitement).Posted in: News
I have a question that I don't feel like looking up the answer to: does each class-gender combination share the same face? In other words: will we be able to customize our characters' faces? -

YES! http://bit.ly/ba6LD5 I highly recommend you watch this fullscreen (tempted to make an entire thread dedicated to this)! I did and I noticed so many new and exciting things that weren't even mentioned in the interview.
Prime examples being the item descriptions and modifiers. They seem to have invented new ones and be bringing back some oldies-but-goodies as well! I haven't been as actively following D3 as I was before (I'm on my clinical rotations, cut me some slack) but I noticed today that apparently "Brilliance" is a character stat.
I don't know how many of these item modifiers will make it to the final game, but I distinctly remember:
extra base experience per monster killed
magic find (!!)
health per hit (or kill, I don't remember and I am not going to watch it again pausing every 4 seconds)
Once again I encourage all of you to watch this high res and fullscreen and enjoy! -

Also, if I may add a recipe for an exceedingly simple albeit quite satisfying snack which I successfully made in my wok last night:
Wok Kettle-Style Popcorn
Vegetable Oil - 3 Tbsp.
Popcorn Kernels - 1/3 cup
Sugar - 1/3 cup (omit/reduce for normal/less sweet popcorn)
Heat wok over medium heat. Add oil and three kernels to wok once it starts to heat up. As you wait for the kernels to pop, figure out how to cover the wok. If you have a lid, use that at a slight angle to allow some steam to escape. If you lack a lid, cover your wok with aluminum foil with some holes poked in it.
After the three kernels have popped, add the rest of the kernels and the sugar and stir the mixture to avoid having a single large lump of sugar. Replace the lid or whatever other form of cover you have fashioned.
Start shaking the wok, rather vigorously (Don't Stop while the wok remains on the heat). For about a minute, probably nothing will happen. Then the kernels will start to pop. Depending on your setup, some of the oil and unpopped kernels may shoot out of your wok. It is advisable to plan for this and find some way of distancing one's bare skin from the hot oil. Suggestions include oversized oven mitts or tongs. I have some serious gauntlet-like oven mitts that cover my forearms which I use while shaking the wok.
The popping should start to calm after a minute or two at which point the wok should be taken off the heat. I tend to empty it immediately although I don't know if it would be okay to leave the popcorn in it for a few minutes.
Some additional tips that I can offer from personal experience:
The first time you try this, it may behoove you to omit the sugar because the addition of the sugar means that your concoction will burn a little bit more easily than it would have without it. I personally tried it once with the sugar and burned the hell out of it. I went back to the drawing board and tried it with just popcorn which turned out great. Then I tried again with sugar armed with the experience from my two previous attempts and made perfect kettle corn.
Much of this recipe has been adopted from Alton Brown's segment on Perfect Popcorn (recipe) (video - I couldn't find how to link to this video directly, so you may have to look for it once you follow the link). I would highly recommend watching his video as much of the theory and technique can be adapted for cooking popcorn in a wok.
(I used a wok because I don't have a metal mixing bowl... and because woks are awesome)
The reason for shaking the wok is to distribute the heat and to not burn the wok's contents. I don't know if it is possible to over-shake the wok... So you may want to err on the side of shaking more than less because the only conceivable problem with shaking more is that it takes a few more seconds to start popping the kernels. Under-shaking may be the source of burned popcorn.
This recipe is really a lot easier than this essay would suggest, but I tried to keep things thorough in case there is anyone else out there like me who might appreciate a little more hand-holding even on simpler recipes!
(and if any more experienced chef wants any corrections to be made, just message me and I'll edit to make appropriate corrections)

I may have misspoken as I now forget what the distinction is between "open" and "closed" battle.net and if such a distinction existed in the days of Diablo (It was a while ago...). I do remember that the Godly Plate of the Whale was an item duped ad nauseam much like the Arch Angel's Staff of [the?] Apocalypse--can't promise to have gotten the names right, going entirely off some old memories here.
If I recall correctly my Diablo multiplayer experience involved joining a random game and having someone duplicate all of their gear and give it to my low-lvl (possibly lvl 1) character... I was probably eleven or twelve at the time and really didn't quite understand why that wasn't as awesome as I thought it was. And that's pretty much all I remember as pertains to drops and farming gear from Diablo.
But talk about Music and Atmosphere... Those memories just don't go away...
EDIT:
I was curious and searched online and found this website which goes through some of the items common (and by that I mean ridiculously common often due to dupes) in Diablo and their legitimacy. Godly Plate of the Whale is listed as a hacked item unattainable in normal play. So I suppose it seems unlikely that it will be brought back although the Windforce was brought back in DII and according to the same site, the durability(?) was often hacked (or hacked once and duplicated often).
