Not all of what he said may be top-shelf material, but I thought the "tester leak" seemed to have solid material on the plot - tyrael, the player binding himself to maintain the barrier between the worlds at the end, etc.

I believe everyone should get access to the same amount of in-game content
Bobby Kotick, if he's reading this, probably had to stifle a laugh at that one.
Thank you come again! *ding* -

I'll do likewise if we see it before the end of August.
Deal? -
May 9, 2011Gheed2010 posted a message on May 9th Conference CallPosted in: News
No, it is an announcement of intent to begin a beta at a period in the future, with caveats.
When Sams or Morhaime, or Wilson, or whoever tells the screaming fans "The beta starts next week!" at the closing ceremony of b'con, that will be a "beta announcement".
The difference really isn't that subtle. -

BlizzCon will feature a section of the console versions of Diablo III, of course.
Just when I thought the thread was getting less delusional... -
May 9, 2011Gheed2010 posted a message on May 9th Conference CallApril/June is not 'mid' - it is Q2.Posted in: News
Don't forget, Blizcon is late this year. That means they could miss their "target" by only a month, have a 6-month beta exactly like Jay guessed, spend a month in absolute final localization/QA/marketing, and be out somewhere in that window.
Let's review:
- it's never a bad idea to wait a few more months to cannibalize WoW
- it's also never a bad idea to polish a little more
- bunching up 3 Bliz releases in 2012 = $$$$$
- no one wants a boring blizcon
And for those thinking that the polishing and beta phases should be shorter, let me remind you:
- this title is the foundation for a remade IP
- no one on that team has any experience doing random dungeons
- this is the first true 3-D AAA ARPG ever
- there are literally millions of skill/rune combinations
- the arena function promises to be the best feature yet has had no real design attention -

At least you're honest about that being most of your reasoning.
Beta announcement - closing ceremony

Which is why I mentioned "lucky guess". What else is going to be the big hype-worthy announcement at the show? We already know plenty about sc2.2, including a leaked final cinematic. And the next WoW Xpac would be kinda sorta exciting - but it isn't a make 'em all cry, scream, etc thing to send 'em home. They wanted badly to make that exact announcement at the last closing ceremony, with that Sams guy. Remember? -

What happens 3 weeks after the end of this "target"? Whether or not it was a lucky guess, time to admit the "fired tester" was probably right. -

Wow. -

Apr 20, 2011Gheed2010 posted a message on Where's Beta?Posted in: NewsQuote from Jackzor
I think we should riot if they don't announce the beta on the May 9 conference call.
It will either be announced at the closing ceremony for the 'con, or put in turnaround for more time at that point. Upper management will probably review the state of things in august and commit to a release window at that point, and there's no reason to make it '11.
Think of it from ATVI's perspective - they could get a boost from d3, Hos, and the next WoW release all in 2012, WITH the new CoD. Seven or eight billion bucks in a year buys alot of stock buyback $$$. They don't care about the upcoming CC - they want the one 7 quarters from now to be super-kaching. -

Lol indeed. Read what the "fired tester" wrote and you can tell that it's just some immature pissed off troll. Oh wait he's already read it. Halp!
Sorry for stirring you Gheed but you kinda asked for it... or is Gheed the troll trolling us?! Till next time.
I did read it. I find the main debunking angle is "but the NDA would prohibit talking about it..." That theory doesn't take into account the fact that testing is a low-skill, low-pay, low-entry-barrier job, and the people that do it may not be the most mature or intellectually advanced people. I just hope everyone is still around for the 2012 release date and the plot reveal that matches just about all of his material. Crow isn't a tasty dish, but it is a meal. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Blizzard knew they wouldn't match up with the legacy of the series, and knew that there's no way it would ever be as profitable as a subscription game. So they made it a guinea pig/economics experiment.

It is basically a product of Blizzard's relationship with the IP (and genre) itself. They obviously don't get it and would rather use it as an economics R&D project than attempt to do justice to the legacy of the series.

A dozen years ago, Blizzard and her games were still about the joy of gaming and the fellowship that happens there.
Now, they're in the cult of Kotick, and it's all about "I got mine, and if you're too stupid to succeed in the game and too poor to buy decent stuff in the AH, that's your problem."

Valor or Fail?

They will actually work on it before they release an XP. The D series is their #5 franchise for the next 12 months. In every way.

Plenty of people are still buying D3 relative to other pc titles out there.

They are selling 80 bucks panda CEs just fine, going by amazon.

I get more lulz out of watching the old video where characters jump over gaps, climb down ladders, and, of course, the notorious specialized character deaths.
Basically straight-up fraud.

Two mid-prices at the top 2, and plenty of copies @ $40.

"secret world" is barely in the top 40 on its release weekend - does funcom actually make money in europe? How do they survive?

I see you're a post-beta joiner. Sorry if I didn't welcome you back then.
I'm curious if "secret world" will do well. It would be a miracle for EA not to screw things up somehow, but you never know.

I think the experience of people who approach the game totally fresh a year from now without having played it at all will be a good one, and a much better one than most of the people who played it at or near release.
But will it ever come close to D2 circa 1.08-1.10 for its time? No, not at all. The reality is that every lead on this project was making their first ARPG, under a ton of pressure and scrutiny, and it really shows.
