It's an indication of bad times and loss of freedom when citizens are told by a company to go "pack it in and get used to it". We don't choose what companies do anymore, they choose what we do, don't they? I say that's fucked up.

This has been truth since the beginning of capitalism.

Have you ever seen behind the scenes of a marketing company? Their entire work is based on the premise that they're not showing us what we might want, they're telling us what we want.

It's not an indication of bad times. Bad times started a long time ago, our society is built upon bad times. Most people don't notice or don't care. So I guess it's more like, welcome to gazing upon the world for the first time? :P

It's ok, most of us will fall in line anyway. We're sheep that like to be led because leading is scary and uncertain. A petition to add LAN support to SC2 and D3 is a nice, anonymous, safe, and cowardice way of telling Blizzard they're not happy. Most of the people who signed that petition, after not having received what they were after when the game releases (read: No LAN support) will buckle up and buy the game(s) anyway.

I think once the new Bnet is revealed a lot of nay-sayers will be singing a different tune.

Despite the LAN cult following, LAN gaming is becoming a relic. More and more companies are moving to strictly online services. Xbox Live, Playstation Network, Steam, PlayOnline, OnLive, and dozens more. I forget what the EA one is called, but they have one too. This is the emerging trend that is pushing forward. Internet play. Account-specific doorway to a company's gaming library. I rarely install a new game these days without having to install some online service.

This is where multiplayer gaming is laying it's brick and mortar. It's about time you pack it in and get used to it.

You said 'so long blizzard', you're going elsewhere. I wonder, in another 5 years, where will you go?

If you already have $150, why not save up a few more months for the better Elite version. I have one, it's worth it. With the new feature of being able to copy your game to your HD for faster load times, you will use up that 20gb in about 2 days. 120gb with the Elite.

Have some patience, save up some more money, do yourself the service.

Buying refurbished is not a good idea. This isn't the 1980s anymore. Back then electronics were built to last. How many of your parents have 20-30 year old electronics in their house? Now do you think your xbox is still going to be in running condition, hell, even 10 years from now? LOL no. Electronics now are built to last 5 years just in time to die when the newer models come into stock.

Welcome to the forum, I guess?

I think the cow level was great but was more of a joke between us and the old developers and not us and the new ones. I think they should implement something else, something that would be a joke of a common experience shared by us and the new developers, which a lot of people are saying should be, well, a unicorn level :cute:

I am in favor of unicorns and rainbows.

Someone suggested 1up.com, so, I'm going to suggest the gaming site I frequent.

    http://www.kotaku.com

Jam packed with video game news, videos, and general industry nonsensical awesomeness. What sets Kotaku apart from the other video game journalist websites is that it updates almost every 30 mins, 24 hours a day. You will never run out of things to read/watch on Kotaku. I don't even visit 1up anymore. I don't have to, Kotaku updates sooner, and more often.

Ok nobody has suggested this yet, but I really enjoy Travian.

    http://www.travian.com

It's a browser based strategy game where you basically control a single town. From there you harvest resources, build new buildings, research technologies and build units to defend/attack your neighbours. Since each "move" requires time to complete (upwards of 1-2 hours) and it takes time for your resources to gather, it's a good game to play when you're multitasking with something that needs your attention more than the game does.

By definition it is an MMO. I'm playing on Server 9. My name is Savorien.

Come join me. Oh and build an embassy so we can start an alliance against other players. ^_^

    [2] Agree.

Really, wtf a child is doing in dungeon filled with undeads? And why is he alive? And why would you care to loose time and save a children when you're a key piece of a war that will decide the fate of everything you know?

I hope adventures involve important Diablo lore and are inside the context of the game, not kill wolves to getv 20 leatherto some old hag make coats to the children.

Didn't you ever watch Aliens? :P

Kids can fit into nooks and crannies where adults, and monsters, cannot. In such scenarios their survivability is greater than a full sized adult. Adults can sit there in the middle of the room and get slaughtered. Kids can go anywhere. Don't you have any little cousins? Kids can go anywhere.

Also, if we don't save the children, there will be no hero generation to follow once the current heroes have passed on. :P

For gods sake it is NOT a new WoW expansion! The nomenclature for the WoW expansions is very strictly tied to the lore that is being expanded upon, and we already know where the next three WoW expansions will be taking place and roughly what they are about.

    Cataclysm? What?

    You really should read first.

The Great Sundering was when the Well of Eternity imploded in the center of the world to create the Maelstrom. This event was also known as THE GREAT CATACLYSM.

I'm assuming you're expecting the expansion to be called The Maelstrom. It should be noted that the current expansion is not called The Northrend.

While it could definitely be the next WoW expansion, since it is related to the Maelstrom in Warcraft Lore, Blizzard also has a track record of throwing us for a loop on such things.

Icecrown Citadel raid has not even been announced yet for the current WoW expansion. You know, the one with Arthas? The whole point of Wrath. It's a little early to release info on the next expansion, even if it is a month away at Blizzcon.

posted a message on The Unannounced MMO
I don't know what theme they will choose.

But I did arrive at the following theory:

Lots of people play WoW. Lots of people have quit WoW. Blizzard logs complaints/comments when you close your WoW account - they even include a nifty drop down with some of the more popular topics to help ease the player into providing feedback.

So what do they do with all of this information? A veritable library of complaints and whatnot against WoW's design.

    Here's what they do.

They sit down with some key development personel at a giant table, order some sushi, and read through this information. And then they put their heads together to create a brand new MMO that recaptures the audience that they lost (those who quit WoW)

This way, they're not competing with their current MMO, and they get some more monthly fees which are currently lost with people not happy with WoW.

    Genius.

One thing I'm willing to bet on, their new MMO will be more action-oriented than WoW, and will be more than press 1, 2, 2, 2, 3. It may also deviate from the heal/tank/dps make-up for groups.

    We'll see.

    Layers are good for coloring.

Start with a base color to paint the whole 'skin' of your character, assuming you've drawn a character. Make that it's own layer.

Add a new layer for highlights on the skin. Place this layer above the base skin layer.

Add another layer for special lighting if there is a unique lighting source.

Add another layer for the color of the clothing.

    etc. etc.

if you're just doing black and white drawings, use of layers is pretty limited. It allows you to draw different poses, i suppose, and show/hide the layers depending on which pose you want displayed, or which tweak you want to show.

Layers are very useful, but yes it is easy to get carried away. Naming your layers is important so you don't get confused.

posted a message on DIII and patch 1.13
    Quote from "SFJake" »
...some people are dreaming WAY too much over a PATCH.

Patches can add content, and make significant changes. When they say 'patch' they don't always mean 'bugs fixes and that's it'.

    Look at patch 1.10.

    Look at any WoW patch.

Assuming, as a company, Blizzard would safely archive all of their assets and tools that were used in the creation of their old games. This is a common practice, in any company not just in the gaming industry.

That being said, they have everything available they need to add new content, should they desire to do so.

Besides. Patch 1.13 was announced a while ago. Generally Blizzard has been working on their projects for 2-3 years before they make announcements. Taking an awful long time to put out a patch for bug fixes and game tweaks only, don't you think?
