    How do you find all these ancient gear. Is it a matter of playing... much? (sic)

    Yep, it is a matter of playing indeed. Every legendary that drops has a 10% chance of being ancient.

    Also, you can:
    - Gamble shards;
    - Upgrade Rare (yellow items) in the cube, the resulting legendary will also have a chance of being ancient;
    - You can re-roll (again in the cube) a legendary, 10% chance of being ancient.

    I think that's about it....?

    When I buy stuff these days, I always price is as money/hr too. If something is more than cinema, it's too expensive to go near (~$10/hr.) Ideally I'd look for $5/hr as being decent entertainment, $1 ideal, and anything beyond that is fantastic.

    I've had the thought from time to time too that despite the complaints and leaving for ages and then coming back for a new patch, playing a bit, then leaving again til the next one, Diablo 3 really has been well worth the initial investment to me (after release when I worried I'd wasted my money.)

    Gamewise I'd argue that minecraft was (idk what ms has done with it) immense value for the start price and how many hours people put into that game. That's usually the one I pick, but Diablo 3 has been very good, too.

    Yes, Minecraft, of course! That was a good investment! Nice one.

    Hey all,

    every now and then I find myself pulled back into Diablo 3. Because it is fun I guess.

    I then wondered: what is the return of this game in terms of hours played per price unit.

    I don't play much and I first bought the game in 2012 and then ROS in 2014, totalling about 900 hours across my 10 characters. The whole game cost me less than £80. Thus, the ratio is less than £0.1 per hour.

    I am trying to put this into context but what kind of other forms of entertainment can provide this value?

    (Some of you will probably argue Diablo 2 ;) )

    Any thoughts?

    Cinema: £10 for 2 hours

    Drinks with mates: £10-£15 for 2-3 hours

    DVD: £5 for 2 hours (sure you can watch it as often as you want)

    Anyway, that was a random thought. I am certainly looking forward to Patch 2.4! :)

    Cheers,

    Zimm.

    My QUESTION to everyone is; "Why is there so much focus on the bots, when the biggest game-breaker on the leaderboards is MapHack and Auto-Cast programs? Yes, bots is breaking the EULA, but so is TurboHUD, D3h, AutoHotKey etc.?".

    I guess it's because if you bot, you're not even playing. Playing with TurboHUD (or whatever they're called) is still despicable but at least you're playing, for the most part. Anyone using these programs should be removed from the game.

    This is the problem with the cyber space though. We've to put up boundaries. We can't rely on normal physics and it does cause a debate about this since everyone have there own opinion.
    Yeah, people with opinions, how dare they?!? :p

    But joke aside, I think you're correct about bot vs. THUD.

    As challenges go, for non-seasonal they could be something similar to some old achievements:

    - Kill XXX boss at difficulty YYY without taking damage SOLO.

    - Maintain an ongoing massacre streak for ZZZ seconds.

    - Master all set dungeons of a single class on the first try in a single game.

    - Complete all campaign and challenge achievements.

    Even just "obtain WWW achievement points" could be used.

    Not everything has to be tied to greater rifts.

    There are plenty of ways to make obtaining extra space challenging without having to force players into season.

    Yep, using achievement points could be useful; One could unlock one extra tab per 2000 points earned, or something like that.

    Hey,

    well, it might be difficult to say w/o trying directly.

    The GTX should be fine; you might be limited by the Core 2 Duo perhaps? Although 3.0Ghz should help a lot.

    Why don't you give it a try and let us know? :) Of course you don't *need* 70 fps, 30-35 should be fine to allow for some local lag. Don't hesitate to cap them in the options menu.

    You know how to display the in-game frame rate? (Crt+F on my layout, but I think I changed the bindings).

    Cheers,

    posted a message on [Debate] Cheating in D3? What is cheating and what is not?

    Hi Drahque et al.;

    adding some definitions of cheating,

    1. Act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage
    2. to behave in a dishonest way in order to get what you want

    The bit about "to get what you want" seems to apply to third party software users to "get things that should have been implemented". Ultimately, the game was released the way it was. Some may not like it. We're not meant to hack things to get what we think is missing.

    But I guess we do agree on that? :)

    They should have just linked this to real money so the people who cant do conqueror can get it as well for 10 usd.

    I still don't understand why people think they deserve stash space for free or no effort at all. i understand the not wanting to play seasons but its still not that time consuming at all for conqueror.

    They give you a full set for completing the first four chapters which makes it even easier for people starting the seasonal grind.

    Maybe for non season people they can link it to having 5 classes completed greater rift 75 or 80 solo I know that's kind of harsh but with non seasons hoarding gear it has to be something really tough.

    I would be in favour of something in NS. It could be equivalent to Conqueror and scaled up for NS. What ever this might be.

    I'm playing all classes in non-season, and am trying to have at least one of each set around (I don't have any Invoker pieces there, Shadow Mantle and so on). To keep all set parts and useful legs I already need to have 2 toons of every class, just to hold items for those classes around.

    My first stash tab is gems, legendary gems, machines + uber organs, up to 5000 mats of each, bounty mats, and few rings amulets I change on my mains that I play that moment.

    2nd tab is full of different rings and amulets (I had 2 stashes of that, and seeing how I destroyed many very useful Traveler's pledges/Compass Roses I would bite my head off...)

    3rd tab is Bovine's, Puzzle rings, all mats in groups of 5000, cosmetics (dye's), Black Rock ledger pages, Whimsyshire staff.

    4th and 5th tab are there to put in stuff from one class, so when I play I play with that class, with kinda free "personal" stash. I destroyed many good items, and if need room for a new toon (season or so), I immediately have overfilled stash.

    To keep it that way, I really destroyed a lot of meaningful stuff. However my season stash (where I usually play 2 classes, as that is the limit I get for free character slots) is already overfilled again. At each end of season I need around a week to get it somehow together...

    Even with 10 stashes, the situation would be just a bit better, sadly. Especially with all the new items and in theory every ancient can be useful with a LoN set-up from 2.4 on.

    I will do the Season journey in season for sure, and work forward to the stash tab, but it's a cheap way of getting players to stay in the game, to get only one additional tab each season...

    I am in a similar situation. And yes, I can understand: when season ends and that the, say, 7 tabs are full of stuff and sent to your non-season chars, that's going to hurt!

    My setup is as follows: 1st tab for crafting mats, gems, leg gems, uber organs, and random stuff that all chars could use. Last tab is for followers since I didn't gear each of them, but rather I swap items as I swap main character. The tabs in between are for the 6 classes, 2 classes per tab. That's tight, very tight.

    As a partial solution, I have now 2 toons for each class thereby allowing some space in their personal respective rucksacks, but it is weak band-aid on a gashing open wound.

    They could: implement a separate crafting mats stash, and perhaps a follower-only related system too.

    Hey oh, not deal breaker but most certainly annoying! :)

    The seasonal journey counts for all seasonal characters. If you get your gift with a wizard, you can't get it with a barb or whatever you play afterwards afaik.

    Yes, this is what I read too.

    Skill over time played!

    I would love to see this implemented, but I fear that the D3 philosophy is, will be, "time played over skills".

    Also, playing the devil's advocate here a bit, what skills one might ask? :)
    (Knowing your class goes a long way, and the different legendaries needed to make that build tick).

    posted a message on The State of PARAGON and an example how to fix it (Paragon Leagues)

    Hi,

    nice post, good to read.

    Lots of things that resonate with me, despite being a "casual" player[1].

    1. Paragon leagues could be interesting;

    2. Filter information based on paragon levels would go a long way;

    3. I am keen to see fixed Rifts on a weekly basis. Now, what could/should be fixed? Monsters? Layout? Gear? Build? One would have a week to learn, master a given build, and try to get the most out of that rift. Paragon, and let us not forget leg gems!, could be capped/fixed too.

    I guess that in terms of implementation, point 2 would be easiest, whilst 1 and 3 hardest/more resource hungry.

    Point 2 is kind of already achievable by having a list of friends or clanmates that are at the same paragon levels. You can see your ranking against them.

    [1]: We probably do need to agree on the definition of casual, in my mind, about 5-10 hrs/week.

    posted a message on Experience nerf unfair?

    I am not sure whether it is fair or not but I like the philosophy behind it: as one of the devs said during an interview (with Quin I think): their idea is that one should get EXP by playing the game (that is killing monsters) rather than gearing specifically for XP grind.

    Hello there,

    I made a thread about the difficulty of acquiring stash space starting from patch 2.4. I am a casual player, I'm sure many of you are too. I simply don't want to stress and find time to play a season, only for stash space. It will be much harder to get than the new pet.

    If you think stash space should be easier to obtain, then go to the link below and support me. Thank you.

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/19974497763?page=1#0

    edit: I bolded a few words for those that don't understand that I do play the game. But it's the season that makes me annoyed. Stash should be free or cost gold, and not something else like playing seasons that you don't want to play.

    First of all, it's not that hard. You have 3 months to get there. If you can't do it in 3 months because you 'don't have time to play a season', then you don't have enough gear to fill up your stash anyway, and therefore don't need the extra space.
    @MHM, I am not sure I agree with you on that one. Ok, you're correct in that it is probably not that hard to get there. But, someone not playing seasons still has loads of stuff in the stash. AND, with the next patch all 24 sets might actually be worth collecting, therefore more stash space will be needed. Add on top of that the fact that new legendaries won't be season-only. Granted, some tidying of my stash will go a long way (*cough cough*) :)

    It is possible that the one extra tab for all players will be enough though... Time will tell!
