I think blizzard should definitely do this. Not to prevent people from having more then one account, they could just a second cd key... I would like for them to only allow like 6-8 characters per account but they never expire, id probably still play diablo 2 if my characters didnt expire.

This would be done over and over for hours. Some people even used bots to run this all night long when they weren't actually playing.Posted in: News

I have an idea for you. Go play Diablo 2. They are different games. One of the two was made many years ago.

I just want to get an idea how large the PvP community was vs people who payed real money for virtual goods.

Please describe what makes a MMORPG an MMORPG in exact detail.

I believe it was more popular, but as a fact, your right... None of us can say.
If I could, I'd start a poll asking "Did you play a lot of PvP in Diablo 2 or WoW", "Did you pay real money for virtual goods in Diablo 2 or WoW", and "I did both".

My point was why is Blizzard spending resources on something like a RM AH which was a very niche community while outwardly expressing that they want to make sure D3 PvP is casual, even though competitive PvP in D2 was a much bigger niche.

Diablo 2 PvP was open ended. Diablo 3 PvP is being forced casual.
RM AH requires development cycles to create. They are spending those cycles on a much smaller community (people who want to spend real money) rather than on a bigger community (people who PvP competitively). Also, managing a RM AH will be very resource intensive. Your dealing with peoples REAL MONEY. You need a lot of support. At the bare minimum, Blizzard would just need to keep PvP very open ended for it to be competitive. No balancing required (this is not an e-sport).
1. I was not saying a ladder would correct the system. It's just a feature I personally would enjoy.
2. Look at my above response about the RM AH
3. You have your own opinion about D2 PvP. You obviously PvP'd against amateurs. I personally played a lot of SvB (on both sides) and a good barbarian could actually hold his own against a Sorc with teleport. People found ways to make things work even if the game was super unbalanced.

What I don't understand is why they are making it clear how casual PvP will be. I'm sure everyone can agree that the PvP community was MUCH larger than the real money trading community in D2. Why does it feel like they are giving support to such a smaller community with the RM AH and really limiting what we will be able to do with PvP.
One of the reasons why D2 PvP was so good because there were no restrictions. Players made the rules, did what they wanted. It seems like Blizzard wants to tell us how to PvP and that they want to reinforce that you shouldn't play PvP in a competitive way.
On a personal note, the only type of reward I want for PvP is a ladder.
And I'd just like to say something about balance. Diablo 3 doesn't need to be balanced. Diablo 2 was not balanced whatsoever. The community will learn to play with what they are given. If the Demon Hunter is the most underpowered class in the game... Oh well, people will deal with it by having fair fights playing DH vs DH. Blizzard should let the community decide how they want to play, not the other way around.

Console developers always have to optimize for the console they are developing on to stay competitive. Want to make your game more revolutionary then the last and better than your competition? OPTIMIZE YOUR CODE! On the other hand, PC developers usually just say to themselves... "We can same money on resources" or "We are running out of development time/resources, lets just get our customers to upgrade their computer".
That's why your PC hardware doesn't run games on the settings you use to run them 6 months ago.
If you want to have a decent lifespan and don't care about running on the highest forever... Get the 15 MacBook Pro with the upgraded graphics card.
If you need to have the best graphics always I would go with a desktop. This way you can upgrade specific parts individually but understand you'll be dishing out 300-500$ every 6-12 months to stay up to date.

I played classic mostly. My MF runs always included High Counsil -> Mephisto -> Diablo which is a bit nicer than Baal -> Baal -> Baal but that could still be improved.

All I ment by beta/release was "the first day we get the game".
