Patch 1.0.5 Interview with Jay Wilson and Wyatt Cheng
PC Gamer had the opportunity to talk with Jay Wilson and Wyatt Cheng about the changes coming with patch 1.0.5. Main topics have been bullet pointed but you can read the full interview here.
    • The changes to crowd control skills are designed to help create a wider use for these skills.
    • The Diablo team will often include Warcraft and Starcraft teams on ideas to get additional input.
    • Their current focus is larger, more noticeable changes.
    • Monster Level was added to give players the option to optimize their playing. Adding more difficulty for those who want it.
    • They hope each player will be able to find their own balance between challenge, speed, and drops.
    • They don't want the Monster Level mechanic to be a necessary difficulty for players to complete.
    • There are no achievements or specific drops based on monster level chosen.
    • Monster Level 0 is easier than the current difficulty but should yield the same current drops.
    • Monster power still stacks with party size in proportion to Monster Level.
    • Your Magic Find can stack above the 300 cap with the increase in Monster Level.
    • The Infernal Machine will have newer versions of previous bosses.

    PTR Status: Offline
You may have noticed the link at the top of the news post yesterday. The PTR was up for a small amount of time before being taken offline. There is no ETA for when the PTR will be live again, hopefully soon.

While this is only public test (the first for Diablo III) and uneven game performance is expected, we want to make sure that the experience is as smooth and stable as possible. It's going to take some extra work on our end to make that happen, and the PTR will need to be offline while we make our updates.

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted reports about the problems you experienced. We'll be working diligently over the next few days to resolve as much as we can and get the PTR back online so you can test and provide feedback on patch 1.0.5.

How to Change Monster Power Level
Lylirra gives us a quick rundown on how to change the Monster Power levels.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Similar to the "Players X" command in Diablo II, Monster Power is a system designed to give players more control over how challenging enemies are in each difficulty.

Step 1: Open up the in-game Options menu (default: Esc) and select the Gameplay tab.

Step 2: Check the box next to "Monster Power" to enable it.

Step 3: Open up the Quest Selection window.

Step 4: Select your designed Monster Power level from the drop-down box near the bottom of the window, under "Difficulty Setting."

Step 5: Once you've set your Monster Power level, quest, and difficulty, click "Select Quest" to confirm.

Step 6: Enter game and profit!

"No Monster Power" is the default setting. Each Monster Power level will increase the health and damage of monsters, and in return players will receive scaling bonuses to experience (for heroes levels 1-60) as well as boosts to Magic Find and Gold Find (for heroes in Inferno) which will stack above the 300% cap. The option to increase Monster Power will be available to all players starting at level 1 and can be adjusted separately for Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and Inferno difficulty.

(Note: If you join a multiplayer game, you will adopt the Monster Level of the party leader. When you leave the party, your Monster Power level will automatically revert back to your previous setting.)

“Appear Offline” Option Coming Soon to Battle.net
We quickly gave a shout out to this new feature coming to battle.net and Diablo III in patch 1.0.5. For those who missed the small note, here is the full rundown.

Soon, World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, and Diablo III players will be able to select "Appear Offline" as one of their Battle.net social-status options (along with Available, Busy, and Away) for those times when they want to wander Azeroth by their lonesome, dominate the galaxy in radio silence, or slay demons in solitude. When you choose this option as your status, all of your Real ID friends, BattleTag friends, and character-level friends will see you as “Offline” in their friends list whenever you’re logged into a game.

The “Appear Offline” status option will be added to World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, and Diablo III separately in future updates for each game. For Diablo III, we expect to add the feature in a patch after 1.0.5. For World of Warcraft and StarCraft II, we expect to add the option sometime after the release of each game’s upcoming expansion.

Thanks for your continued feedback, and we’ll share more information on the availability of this new feature in the months ahead.

I don't mean the amount of hours he put it. Just the fact that he just enjoyed playing the game. He didnt even plan to hit 100 until he was 40.

I liked the interview. It showed that he is just a normal player like the rest of us. Much more appealing than some person who thinks they owned the game and exploited all of its fault and thinks its "too easy".

He just leveled enjoying the game.

    Interview with Alkaizer
After Alkaizer completed the task of being the first player to hit Paragon level 100, he took the time to talk with DiabloFans.

    DiabloFans Quote:

DiabloFans: Starting it off, how does it fell to hit Paragon level 100?
Alkaizer: It feels pretty good. I don't think of this as a huge accomplishment but it kept me interested in playing the game and it was more fun than I thought it would be.

What were your initial reactions when Blizzard announced the system?
I was actually not looking forward to it because I felt I was already getting an edge on other players by using a strong magic find gear setup and I felt this would do more harm than good for a player like me. Fortunately it didn't turn out to have a negative impact on me.

Did you plan on trying to become the first player to hit Paragon level 100?
No, I just wanted to find as many quality legendary and set items as fast as I could before other players.

You completed this feat with a Barbarian, why did you choose this class?
I only have a barbarian and I am pretty confident I will never level any of the other classes to max level if at all.

Did you consider doing it with any other class?
    No

Can you explain the route you did to farm the experience?
My route changed a few times. At the start of paragon I was simply doing standard magic find runs, 5 stack siegebreaker to azmodan because I felt this would yield the best possible loot. Around level 40 is when I set it in stone that I was actually going to attempt to hit level 100 before anyone else. At this point I started at Azmodan's checkpoint and worked backwards trying to find good routes to maximize WOTB uptime and going through areas I felt were with it for potential item drops and exp. It wasn't until around level 90 that my route became Core of Arreat(Azmodan Checkpoint) -> Tower of Damned Level 1 -> Arreat Crater Level 2 -> Keep Depths Level 2 -> Fields of Slaughter. I felt this would give me a good balance of drops and probably pretty close to the max possible experience for the time spent.

Was there any point that you got tired of doing this and thought about stopping?
Not really, I've been playing games pretty intensely for about 15 years. It's just what I do with a large majority of my free time. There was close to no stress involved.

What was your play schedule like?
The first few days I played probably 17-19 hours in game. But eventually I dropped down to probably 12-15 hours. There were a few days where I wasn't even playing for 12-14 hours straight.

How do you feel about the idea that many people assumed you had to be a bot in order to accomplish this goal so quickly?
I think it's pretty silly if you consider how inefficient a bot is at anything in game compared to an actual person.

Many people watching your stream saw you skip over dozens of legendary items, what was your thought on passing them over?
From 1-100, I probably did miss around 1 to 2 dozen legendaries just due to the nature of how my abilities work and not always paying 100% attention. I think going as fast as I was will still net me more legendaries over time instead of double checking every monster I kill.

Now that you have hit 100, what are your next plans?
I'll still play a decent amount. Magic Find runs and test some builds I haven't had the chance to since the patch came out and hopefully the next few patches can give me something else to do.

Are you hoping Blizzard comes up with more end-game content or are you content with the Paragon system?
Paragon system was a good start. Hopefully we see more content and things to sink time in and challenge players in different ways. Competitive aspects in Diablo 3 would strengthen the game.

Is there anything else you would like to share with the Diablo community?
Not really, thanks to those who watched the last few levels and hopefully it was entertaining

Yeah, got the vile ward really cheap and use it purely for the resist since I'm stacking physical.

Was wondering, are rare weapons better choice than the two legendary options for axes?Would love to get the two bul weapons but since they are both mighty weapons...

the problem is, I cant afford two chars that can face roll. I know my monk can but its a bit slow as he is more about surviving. I also want to try something different. but, I think I can sell my monk weapons and buy cheaper replacements to get some gold to build my Barb. Selling both of his weapons would get me 200-300 million. Could buy cheaper weapons for my monk and use the rest to build my barb. But finding fist weapons with high dmg and high LoH are rare to come buy.

My Monk BTW: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/ScyberDragon-1275/hero/21623733 (Missing his two inna pieces and legendary bracers that my brother is currently borrowing to farm)

posted a message on WW Barb Questions (Help Please)
Hey guys, I am looking to build a WW Barb but I have a few questions first.

    Overall

    1. Right now I have a great Monk who can farm all of Inferno. In order to build a Uber Barb, I'll have to sell his gear. Is a WW Barb better/more fun/cheaper than a Monk? (Personal opinion allowed)

    2. What are WW Barbs strengths and weaknesses?

    Gear

    3. Weapons? What type and what stats? I know crit dmg, strength are must. But what else should I be looking for? Any specific items would be great. (Looking at no more than 160mil total)

    4. LoH and/or Life steal. Which is better and how much do I need? I know for Monk LoH is great and my Monk has 2k LoH which makes him able to tank plagued and molten without moving. Just wondering how that compares to Barbs and how often it procs with WW.

    5. How much All Resist and defense do I need? I don't want to waste money stacking too much since resist, at a point, becomes not worth the return.

    6. How much VIT/HP and STR/DMG do I need to farm Act 3 Inferno efficiently?

Any other thoughts and opinion are more than welcome.

just not sure where to run if doing act 4.

I need to get some more MF but I am having a hard time sacrificing any of my current gear to stack it. I guess easiest would be the socket in my helm.

i thought that but i can clear 1 level of the quest and get a 5nv stack. and then i can clear the rest of the quest in about 20mins. i think the number of elites per minute is better concentrated in that small area.

posted a message on Inferno Farming: Act 3 or Act 4?
Hey, I was wondering what it is more productive to farm for both legendaries and EXP. Right now, I am farming the Heart of the Sin quest because of the massive number of elites vs the small area and time it takes to farm.

I was just wondering if anyone thinks there is a better place to be farming or if Act 4 is best to try to get legendaries.
