Stormcat posted a message on New Rep RulesI agree 100% with what Rykker said. Take it down.Posted in: Moderation Archives
No matter what we do the "little kiddies" (that statement includes all the peeps whining about neg rep regardless of their age) will continue to whine about peoples criticisms of them.
Basically, it's ok to them to spam the hell out of positive rep but a big no no to get some negative rep. They are just a bunch of whiney ass little cartmans. They whine at any instance when the world isn't revolving around them until "aww poopsikins mommy will make it better."
UGH
They are going to have soo much trouble in RL.
Take it down. -

Magistrate posted a message on Favorite Member Contest '09 Final PollPosted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)Quote from "Umpa65" »How do you not get that it's unclear in the event that the winner already has a title?
Oh. You didn't provide context so I assumed you were talking about the event of a tie.
Just for reiterating, the sentence reads: "The final poll winner and two runner-ups will be added to the DiabloFans' Hall of Champions and the first place winner of the final poll will receive a custom title on the board as well as sixty reputation points."
In what way does this address the event of a winner already having a title?
Well, logically, if someone already has a custom title, they would just have the opportunity to change the title again. That or they simply wouldn't be bothered about custom titles and just get the reputation. However, I explained the former so there should be no need to be concerned about the latter.
If you win, you get x and y. If you already have x, you can change it. Seems logical enough to me.
The only thing one could think would be that the rules are not effected by the event that a winner already has a title. It does not actually address that issue. That is why it's unclear. I'm not the only one who thought that.
I'm not sure why anyone would have to think that. There is no rule about winning that is affected by a nominee having a custom title or not.
I redid it. I hope it's easier for all of you to understand now. Sorry for the ambiguity -

Magistrate posted a message on 1.13 Werebear Druid ExperiencePatch 1.13 gave some modest class skill changes here and there, but hypothetically I believed that the Druid Werebear build received the best changes, at least to make the build more viable. It is my belief that any good Werebear is first a tank and then whatever else you will it to be. Following that thought, the increased benefits to the transformation, including substantial upgrades to health and a marginal one to defense, as well as a decent revamp of damage, are all good news.Posted in: News & Announcements
Official Blizzard Quote:
Druid
-Werebear - Damage bonus increased by 15% across all ranks.
-Werebear - Increased health by 25% and armor by 1% per point.
-Shockwave - Synergy from Maul adds 5% damage per point.
http://diablofans.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=66&pictureid=453&thumb=1On the PTR I used gear with attributes that added to my bear's already enormous health benefits, like +VIT modifiers, as well as gear to supplement poor attack speed ( Shael runes are wonderful in that regard- get a majorly socketed maul and cram it with Shaels). Cranking up things like resistances and defense only added to the effect, and before I knew it, I was simply wading through mobs throwing negligible damage at me.
Of course, potions did almost nothing to combat that, so gear with Life Steal modifiers was necessary ( String of Ears Demonhide Sash, which also has a nice Damage Reduction modifier, and a pair of Dracul's Grasp Vampirebone Gloves). At lower levels I also used varies grades of Skulls in my weapons to leach back health (and some mana for my skills).

I used my Grizzly, fully leveled, as a secondary tank to sit there by my side. Add in a defensive Act II mercenary and between the three of us we were something akin to a trinity of Stonewall Jackon's. Shockwave, while my initial prejudice against the skill compelled me not to waste anything in it, turned out to be pretty useful in circumstances to blow off enemies for a bit while I took care of others. I mostly used Maul, however, for its build-up for damage and attack rating.

In other, completely non-related news, Curse has managed an interesting interview with both the CEO and Vice President of Bioware for their upcoming title Mass Effect 2, sequel to the popular Sci-Fi RPG- you can check out all the buzz here!

Bouzouki posted a message on Child's Play? That may also be because we've not seen all of the game yet. In D2 you were following a demon on his path of destruction; in D3 the start of the game is relatively quiet. I think as the game continues we'll continue to see more of what you want.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
I'm still one of those people who thinks it's too early to make any decision on the game. -

Nyalite posted a message on Greetings My New SubjectsThe blue name is simply an unexpected bonus of the position here. I had no idea until I signed up that I would be color-coded to my favorite. I mean, let's face it: blue is the sexiest color ever.Posted in: Introduction
I want to thank everyone who posted in here, whether it was a welcome, a warning, or a wonderance (is that a word?). This seems like a really lively community and one that will not be scared to give me feedback while I am learning the ropes of these boards. I'll try to answer all the questions that were asked of me, but I must warn that I am tired from a long day of having information forcibly implanted into my brain by so-called "professors".
The new Diablo Patch doesn't greatly affect me, actually, since I almost always play singe-player. From what I know of it, though, it seems like it offers a lot of quick fixes to minor problems that aren't really going to hold up long into the future. Except the re-specialization part. That is good change.
As for favorite characters. If you mean within the Diablo series it might have to be the Assassin. She's kick-ass and she has black hair, like me, so it makes me feel like I'm actually in the game. Is that weird? If you meant in general, it would probably be Neytiri from Avatar. But I'm kind of like a bird when it comes to favorite characters. I sort of fly over to a new one every time I see something shiny.
My qualifications in forum moderation (that sounds overly official, but what are you going to do) date back a bunch of years to when Daemaro and I were both members on this little old Lord of the Rings forum that doesn't even exist anymore. Most of my moderation there involved the more technical forum stuff, as opposed to the other-member stuff, although I was actively involved in the forums as a user. That site eventually faded into obscurity when the owner decided he couldn't keep paying for it and it shut down.
I've moderated a few other boards and administrated a couple as well. I'm sure few, if any of them, exist anymore. I've sort of taken the last few years off from that sort of thing to really focus on my studies. But I mean, really, all it takes to moderate is a good understanding of the rules, a level head, and the ability to function outside of bias. The advantage I have is I don't really know anyone personally yet, so I can't have a bias. Still, I think that my technical knowledge of the innermost workings of VBulletin will come in handy as well as my interest in human behavior and conflict-management.
I don't want to say that I'm an expert though. Far from it. That's why I'm not in charge and am what we used to call on an old board a "junior" moderator. I really want everyone to be comfortable with me before I start making any sort of judgments. It just wouldn't be right otherwise. -

Magistrate posted a message on Closed Beta threadI say no. This forum doesn't exist to be a billboard for other companies' games. If Curse wants to offer a beta, okay, they own us, it only makes sense. If Blizzard offers a beta for one of their games, that makes sense since they're the gaming company we support.Posted in: Moderation Archives
If other companies stoop to the level of advertising by registering simply to post about their game and advertise beta invites, isn't that the same as the banner advertisements we have? If they want to advertise here, they need to put it up in those advertisement banner reels, not spam our forum with it.
Now, if a stable, committed member of ours posted a beta to a game he created, I would think differently, but this guy just registered to post that. Where do we draw the line? Do we just let everyone do that?
I don't like it. Not one bit.

Magistrate posted a message on Favorite Member Contest '09 Nomination ThreadPosted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo)Quote from "Ivaron" »I know this is nitpicking, but you've forgotten to color blood-dolls name blue Seth
The only people that are blue are ones that have two or more nominations but don't make the top ten.
Also, obviously I should be on top in the list. How could you make such an enormous mistake?
Craaap *goes and stuffs Ivaron at the top of the list*
Not enough reasons ey, well at least one of the mods was so kind to tell me. -.-
- Moderators aren't tasked with helping me with this thread (though they do and I really appreciate it).
- In the OP it says that if you break the rules of the nomination ceremony, your post will instantly be deleted and you are responsible for reading the OP in its entirety.
Quote from Jamoose »Man i nominated pysxix ffs.
First my post get deleted now its completely ignored. FUck this shit.
Your post:
Quote from You »I nominate Siaynoq for telling it as it is.
I also nominate Mephisto's Lament just because.
OH and i want to nominate myself! you bunch of assholes why no one nominates me! i want that custom title thing! agqehqehwekw[eokw!@$%^
Honorable mentions:
Psyxix.
Murderface.
Turmobil.
Umpa.
Seth.
Could not qualify because Siaynoq has opted out publicly, you gave no reason for nominating Mephisto, and you can't nominate yourself (see rules in OP). It was all explained here the first time you asked and made no effort to adjust your nominations:
Quote from PhrozenDragon »You nominated Siaynoq, who has declined to participate, and then Mephisto, however you failed to give a reason, which made the nomination void.
And lastly, you cannot nominate yourself, so none of your nominations qualified. You are however allowed to try again
I would be more than happy to accept your nominations as long as they followed the guidelines established to result in reliable, fair, and meaningful nominations.
[/HR]
Thanks for all of your nominations so far everyone! I'll be updating it late tonight. -

I don't understand what is so confusing about this particular point.
Whether or not he started the thread to intentionally goad people, is not the point.
This wasn't a one-sided affair.
It could have remained so (and ML would be the only one deserving of punitive action) if his detractors had exercised self-restraint.
The ones who decided to attack him were not forced at gun-point to respond.
They are, supposedly, not little children who have no self-control.
They were in control of their own faculties, and made the choice to get involved.
They could have just as easily chosen not to respond, as it says, and has said for a long time, to do in the forum rules.
But they chose to take-part and jump in, hence they should share the consequences along with the OP.
Being trolled isn't a free-pass to get down in the dirt with the troll.
Anyone who uses that as an excuse to justify like-behavior has some growing up to do.

That abuse is still going strong. The "How Much Rep Do You Have?" thread is a major gateway...

1
It was merely an annoyance up to a point, but they've surpassed that threshold. The positive is being abused just as much as the negative, and the ones who Dae mentioned above are some of the biggest culprits in both directions.
Is there a setting that would make it possible for us to see the post for which rep was given? That would be one thing we could use to, at least begin to, assess if a particular rep point was justified.
And possibly a setting to allow users to report rep abuse, in the same fashion they can report posts, visitor messages, and PMs? We can scan the rep comments if we see conversation about it, but giving the users the ability to report it with a click would help the process (as long as we established limits in the rule).
We have certain criteria for what constitutes a deletable spam post; we should be able to establish a baseline for rep, as well, aye?.
1
But, anyway... like I said, it's just MY opinion. I know it's not widely held.
I mean, what would people have to bitch and moan about, otherwise?
More to the point, I also have my doubts about how thankful this community will be about an article that doesn't involve new info from Blizzard.
As I've pointed out recently, they've mostly crapped on everything you guys have worked on. We're having to warn people that their whining about the content will be deleted as spam in every article we put up.
If it isn't new, they don't want to hear about it.
An attitude which is slowly making me want to withdraw from this place.

And where... EXACTLY... has he displayed that particular pious behavior?
He has shown nothing of the sort, by his continued mockery of the staff.
And what's this future of which you speak? You truly believe he is going to change his current view of us? He played us for fools. Capitulating will only lessen us in his eyes; it will tell him that he BEAT us.
If he were truly as repentant as he has bilked you into believing, he wouldn't have acted like the unmitigated ASS he has shown himself to be.
One who truly wished to amend his ways would be humble.
This guy's ego doesn't allow him to acknowledge the meaning of humble.
You are opening us up to assholery that will know no bounds, because you cave to some smart-ass who knows a trick or two about circumventing weaknesses in imperfect forum software.
