Just what is so bad about starting all over again? I do that with every [Diablo] game I play. And, for me, at least, it doesn't get old.
If I found myself bored with the prospect of starting over, it wouldn't be a game that I'd return to again, and again, and I wouldn't be here (on this site).
So what if you have to re-gear yourself, especially after a three-year break? Isn't that part of the fun?

Sure, twinking your new chars with what your others have found is great fun... but it
isn't[shouldn't be] the be-all-end-all of this game.I'm not trying to be a downer here; seriously, I'm glad you're interested enough to find your way back here.

I keep up with Bones, LOST (the other two of my top five), Burn Notice, House, and Sons of Anarchy on DVD as each season is released.
Also, I just added The Office to the DVD list as of last week (I had never seen it before then, and I just hit Season 4 today).

Secret Scrolls #45-49 have the recipes for socketing charms.
Not sure about the mana blade.
It might be that you have to use a higher grade gem (as per the recipe on Scroll #16), but it's also possible that you can't get three sockets on a mana blade. I don't use them, so I'm not familiar with whatever socketing limits there might be for them.
You could try Larzuk, as well.
