ld006 I think you’ve made clearer the points than I could, I’ve had little success here. For some reason my views are taken as attacks on D3 or just negativity. You are exactly right the first Diablo had a down right grim eerie forbidding feeling to it which made it so gripping to play, what is wrong with wanting that feeling preserved in D3?
The fact you could barely move fast enough to get away from a hoard of monsters really sent anxiety chills up your spine (not that I want to be forced to slow walk everywhere again LOL!). In D1 you felt really lucky to get out of the Dungeon alive, careful on every corner and area afraid you would get overwhelmed at any moment by an onslaught of creatures some almost as powerful as you were.
D2 you felt a little braver but still there were places that gave you that feeling of oh crap I need to get out of here. I turned my wife onto D2, she hates spiders in real life, she literally jumped out of the chair and ran into the other room in the Monastery’s jail when she came across her first spider. I had to take over her character to keep her from dying.
D3 appears power, more power, and rage filled power is the name of the game. Despite all the reasons given here for the new look from those who love D3’s art none have been able to explain where all the light is coming from in the forgotten tomb opening scene intro’ing the barbarian. It’s supposed to be a tomb but it didn’t feel like one to me, it wasn’t even slightly spine-chilling.

it doesn't qualify you for commenting on one of the most successful companies in gaming
Where did you get that idea, what makes you think it was games? Assumptions.
Equinox, like you said I guess we will have to see the end product, I'll let you know then. -
Aug 24, 2008VegasRage posted a message on G4TV's Adam Sessler Attacks Diablo 3's Art HatersEquinox I'm sure the game will be successful, players have waited too long for D3, so it will sell well. Many will love it and just maybe the demo was an anomalous bad selection of environments which chapped folks like me and the rest of the game will be what we all hoped for and I'll eat my hat at the end of the day.Posted in: News
...but I don't think so, the demo was a well planned showcase of what Blizzard wanted to show. I'll play it and like much of it however I think you may find there may be many of us still begrudging the art direction even as we play it. -
Aug 24, 2008VegasRage posted a message on G4TV's Adam Sessler Attacks Diablo 3's Art HatersI've worked in 4 development intensive environments ranging from small start ups to huge public companies, all were a lot of fun, 3 very successful. Of course everyone is satisfied now, they always are to the public. Look I'm not dis'ing blizzard, I've been in that fire before and it's frustrating, it's just how it goes. I'll bet good money there are some folks in Blizzard quietly saying "I told you so" who tried to tell those who got their way.Posted in: News

If you believe, with your experience, that Jay Wilson is a terrible dictator that rule with a iron grip over all the decisions that should be made regarding diablo 3 that's your bad. I think and hope that they have a nice democracy where everyones voice and opinion is equally important, and if you listen to what Jay says during the interviews it also sounds like that, and if you don't trust the words of Jay Wilson I can't really see why you are watching interviews with him, but on the other hand maybe you don't watch em'.
Because I've worked in software development environments for over 10 years as a liaison between engineering and development and know what the IT political creature is about; good, bad, and ugly. There is a public PR face and there is a behind the scenes reality, and while I’m sure there is synergy in the team and ideas freely flow at the end of the day there a small number making the final calls. When the direction of the wind is known as certain you don’t fight it, you just go with it.
Look it's just a game to me, this place is where I give my head a break and I do look forward to the game, really. Yet I am both pleased and disappointed in what I have seen so far. I don't play too many games, I don't have time. This is the only game I'll play in in the coming year.
Why am I making a bit of stink about Jay Wilson's interviews? Because I know his reasons for not darkening the environment are overstated, I realize it may not be Jay that is setting the public talking points so I don't blame him personally. I'm sure there is some truth to his argument but I also know they could darken it more than they have and the game would still be great. If they just came out honestly and said this is what was decided on because the powers wanted it that way, I wouldn't have posted nearly as much as I have. -

Yes they do, and this site has been one nice way me to pull my head out of a shell script. Cup of Joe, little music, do a Vulcan mind meld with the code, and a little soap box here. -

So the only reason they complain is to make other people miserable.
I don't think so, we complain because Blizzard bummed us out with it's WOWing effects on the game and hope someone in Blizzard gets the point, albeit unlikely.
Stuff like this

It has been decided. Just live with it. Btw, I think that it is arrogant and egotistic and childish to complain. I mean, I do realise that all of you haters have worked in the computer games making companies for decades and know everything there is to know but still...
so you're saying that Jay Wilson and Michael Morhaime should take a stroll down the beach and ask every person about his/her opinion on Diablo 3 or any elements it has and then do it the way all those people said? Imagine the havoc...
I'll say it again for GP I know the art direction isn't changing, but I will speak my mind anyways. I'm not sure why so many on these boards think it would be chaotic to know what the fans wanted before they started. Market research isn't that hard to do, getting a pulse on your customer is good. Businesses frequently fail because they lose touch with their customers wants.
When I was at Adobe they did it all the time, they would announce a product and list it's features before ever writing a single line of code. Then they would wait for the response, if favorable they would create the product and adjust the features based on response. If the response was poor they wouldn't make the product at all. This also helped an old former roommate of mine retire early and wealthy in sports nutrition by doing essentially the same thing, he was very happy to sell EAS and MRI. -

Also he mentioned that 1/3 of the team is people that worked on Blizzard North and when u take into account that the whole current team now is satisified with the art direction, what does that tell u?
Not fun to play according to Jay. I think Jay Wilson is defending his direction, I think the Blizzard North team wants to keep their jobs. You really don't expect them to bite the hand that feeds them do you? I started my career in IT doing tech support for Adobe and have enough experience over the years with AutoCAD, Studio Max, Bryce, and Lightwave to buy his pitch that the darkness wasn't working.
I know the art direction isn't changing, but I will speak my mind anyways.
Politics are bad enough in IT, I'm so glad I shifted direction towards the engineering side, artist politics are twice as bad. -

I'm old enough remember when they all first came out, no Jason and Freddie are not classics. Halloween was the best and most revered slash and gash to be even considered as a classic, everything else was a cheesy knock off. -
Aug 23, 2008VegasRage posted a message on G4TV's Adam Sessler Attacks Diablo 3's Art HatersGet a job at blizzard and then complain? That would only work if you get a position controlling the direction and they are not hiring for that now and it is far too late in the game, nice suggestion but unrealistic. I realize you can't make everyone happy all of the time but I think the feedback shows clearly shows Blizzard did not listen or ask what the customer wanted. While it might be true people on the dissatisfied side elevate the numbers I think it's equally true the satisfied side minimizes them.Posted in: News
Of all the interviews and comments from inside Blizzard show they didn’t ask, it’s about “what they want, what makes them happy, what makes their management happy”. When it comes to the customer it’s “we think fans will be pleased, we believe game play will be diverse and satisfying” and then there is just the old defend our direction at all cost stances.
They didn’t check with the fan base to see what they were looking for, it’s simple Blizzard North got cut or something and Irvine got their hands on it and lost Blizzard North’s vision. It pretty frustrating but we will have to drink whatever flavor of Kool-Aid we are handed or have none at all. -

LUV the once again ASSumed numbers of how many who don't like Diablo's art direction he threw out. ROLMAO! Yes Adam there are only a couple hundred of us, we all live in caves in the Mideast and yes OH please call us America haters while you are at it.
Well we who don't like the art direction it's clear we should have all just gotten in line and ate the tripe we were served by the Blizzard's Bovine University for the good of those who just love whatever is served. We should have kept our mouths shut, be seen, not heard, no independent thinking here.
We will get what we get and like it.
mmmmmm yummy tripe, can I have some bowels for desert?
Quote from name="biff exploder" »the game has gore as hell, and not the super serial type, i mean, its ultra violent, loads of blood and body parts, who cares about colors when you have that much violence in a game?
dude is right.
There is a reason why movies like "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street" are referred to as cheesy B slash and gash flicks and others are called horror classics like “The Exorcist” and “The Omen”. It’s not all about gore and violence. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
