My god, get off it people. Believe it or not, a lot of us are very happy with the new art direction. It just so happens that the biggest critics are also the loudest.

Yes. Your little screen edits look good. But you know what? The game looks great. I can't stop watching the trailer. Stop bitching about small details that ultimately won't detract from the overall gaming experience. People see a feature that has been featured in multiple new games, and scream bloody murder at apparent WoW influence. (I still don't understand why this is inherently bad, it being such a popular game).

If a beta is released, and your arguments are still valid in light of playing the actual game, THEN you can complain.

So if people like you like it how it is. Plus you like the edits people are making too. So why wouldn't blizzard make changes that then make EVERYONE happy. Pretty logical.

The same people who like it as it is now are the same ones who wouldn't care if it was changed. So.. change it.

yet another complaint thread. i'll say this and be gone. methinks is one word.

and i'll add this: TRUST BLIZZARD! have they ever done you wrong yet?

Blizzard hasn't done us wrong yet because of all the people who complained during their alpha and betas. If you haven't been there trust me. A lot of complaining went on. And blizzard fixed a lot of crap that was complained about. Hence, why complaining now is a good plan.

    The Gargoyle is fucking FINE.

    Fine.

    FINE!

Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, f-i-n-e.

Fine isn't good enough. Words like "awesome, bad-ass, killer, scary, creepy" come to mind as acceptable words to describe the art one would see in Diablo.

    "Fine" is a 5 out of 10 score. Not 10 of 10.

"Fine" is what you say when your food isn't that good at a restaurant and you're trying to be polite.

    To heck with "fine."

    Btw its not a gargoyle.

It's a gryphon. Their wings go up

Gargoyles wing go from Top to Bottom on their sides and they have less of an animal body.

That 2nd one rules. That's the kinda crap i want to see in diablo.

    You guys are redundant.

Especially the guy above me who wants the fucking game to look like a constant cutscene.

    The Gargoyle is fucking FINE.

    Fine.

    FINE!

Fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, fine, f-i-n-e.

    Actually, GET THIS!

IT'S NOT A GOD-DAMN GARGOYLE, MORONS, IT'S A SPHINX! HOL-EE SCHNIDKERDOODLE DO-WAP CANDYLAND! OH CRAP! A SPHINX! IT'S NOT A CHIMERA LIKE YOU WANT IT TO BE IN YOUR SIGS! XD

Ok? It's ONE DUNGEON. One DUNGEON THAT USED TO BE THE HOLY MONASTERY OF THE HORADRIM/TRISTRAM/ZAKARUMITES! LOL! Why would it be demonic? Why? Why, why, why, why, why, why, why? Why, why, why, why?

... Case and point with lots of rage.

I think the point is some "idiotic jackasses" on a forum are making better looking art than a company that rakes in over a billion a year.

CGI cinematics and real time 3D graphics are much different from on another. In order to make in game armor look detailed and look like real metal requires normal maps and custom shaders. These two things require more GPU processing power and raise the min system requirements for the game. The team that does the Hi Resolution CGI stuff work independently from the teams that make the games and no video card on the planet could run those cut scenes in real time, so they are pre-rendered. Blizzard might use shaders and more normal maps in the game but we won't know until much later in development because these kinds of additions usually happen towards the end of the development cycle.

Why then does the art in diabloII look more like real metal armor than in Diablo 3. Why does the armor in warhammer online's engine look like real metal? Why does the armor in Tian Quest look like real metal armor.

I could go on all day. I guess this is just out of the grasp of whatever modeler they have working there at blizzard nowadays.

I'm not buying your argument at all. Titan Quest is a few years old. And it looks better than what blizzard is doing today. They need to get with the times. None of the stuff you mentioned is valid today with modern video cards and processors.

Oh and another thing. Why can't we get the artist who does the cut scenes design the armor?

Why does the armor in all blizzards cut scenes look awesome. Like take Tyrael for example, awesome armor. Looks like it's made out of metal, looks cool.

But then once you're in the game. You get to wear green construction paper cutouts that have no resemblance to actual armor whatsoever. Fail.

Gargoyles in a dungeon are a means to an end. They are there to decorate and help enahance the mood.

If the idea was to make me feel as if I'm crawling around in the ruins of someone's joyous castle, then blizzard failed. One happy gargoyle failed at the task. More would be needed than simply that.

If the idea was to make a spooky dungeon, then blizzard failed. Happy gargoyles don't give me the creeps. Either way... fail.

Main point is. I want to play Diablo. If blizzard has some idea about it being 20 years later and all the horror is gone from the world. Well that was a really idiotic decision in lore writing wasn't it? That's not the game I want to play. Frickin' yawn.

Gimmie the scary creepy dungeon to crawl through, that's what we all want isn't it? Don't go trying to justify how the lame "imagininary lore" you just made up makes your art direction all ok. That's the same difference. Change the lore to be something we actually want to play.

This is all acedemic anyway. Since the concept shots for Diablo 3 look like a game I actually want to play. Bt the final art looks nothing like the concept art. Fail again.

    Wise up blizzard.

posted a message on Why whining and moaning is a good thing.
I see a lot of folks getting mad at the so called "whiners" who have negative things to say one way or another about what they've seen of D3.

Another common thing I hear is "Blizzard has never let me down, so shut up, they'll make a good game."

For the record, blizzard never has let us down, but blizzard is a unique company. They have extensive alphas and betas, they solicit feedback from their players. And they make large changes to incorporate that feedback.

It's not Blizzard that hasn't let you down. It's blizzard and the whining moaning complainers, which effect change, that haven't let you down.

Blizzard doesn't spontaneously make brilliant games all by themselves. They never have. Blizzard and their fans have made great games.

Just something to think about next time you tell everyone to shut up. You're methods hurt us, not help us.

posted a message on Art Style -- A major distinction most are missing.
Guys, this is how the development process works.

Having been in the World of Warcraft friends and family alpha and the beta stage I can tell you that nothing in WoW was not bitched, whined and complained about until WoW turned into something better than it was. Notably the success it is today.

You act as if all this user feedback is somehow unwarranted and unhelpful. You do Blizzard a disservice. They actively solicit feedback and take that feedback into account on every game they have made in the past. They care what their fans think and do make changes based on that feedback.

This has been mentioned many times, and while it is a big issue, it isn't possible at this point to change. Blizzard simply is not going to redo all their assets. But I agree with you.

Wrong. They did it with Starcraft2. The early shots of textures in that game were cartoony and clean, they made them dirty and rusty after much complaining by the fanbase (looks a heck of a lot better for it as well). Why would this be any different?

Do people really think Blizzard released a 20 min gameplay video so they could NOT get user feedback?

The entire reason that video exists is to get our feedback. It's better to find out now what people hate rather than waiting for launch.

posted a message on What genre is Diablo really? Horror or Adventure?
With all these post about Diablo3's music and art not being what people expect it got me thinking about what actual genre of game diablo 1 and 2 actually were.

The music and look actually call out the Horror genre more than any other. Demons and gore, things jumping out at you, creepy music (that even has a crying baby thrown in on a few tracks for good measure).

Diablo 1 & 2 are definitely Action Horror genre games.

This is the core of what I feel people are balking at when they see the Diablo 3 art and music direction. Their art director took a total misread of Diablo and decided it was Action Adventure. I.E. Warcraft.

Imagine if someone did a remake of Amityville Horror and did it as an action film with guns and lots of killer special effects and a fancy "go get em" music score. People would freak out! Which is exactly what is going on here.

Blizzard is basically taking their Horror IP and trashing it.

It looks beautiful, it will be fun to play, I'll play it, I'll love it, no question about that. Heck I think the game looks awesome.

But it ain't really "Diablo," unless it's horror filled creepy to the bone.
