Hearing that they plan on totally changing how the DH works is really bittersweet. I, too, had the DH pegged as either my last or second-to-last class to play, so I'm glad to hear they are reworking it. However, this obviously means there could possibly be delays to the beta release and, more importantly, the actual release.
So if they are going to make the commitment to change the DH up and possibly push back the release, it better be something awesome.
(Here's where I say how I think the DH's resource should be reworked )
I can't remember where I saw someone else say this, but I had been thinking it too. Instead of the 2 resources being side-to-side and independent from each other, I think they should be on top of each other (discipline over hatred) and constantly fighting against each other. So if you are generating hatred, the orb fills up, reducing your discipline.
Hatred and discipline skills would generate their resource, not spend it, much like many monk and barb skills. So if you are spamming hungering arrow, you are generating hatred, not spending it.
Now, obviously we can't just stop there, as there would be no point to having a resource if everything generated it and nothing spent it. So in addition, I think they need to implement a system where you get buffs and debuffs depending on the ratio of hatred/discipline in your orb. Note all the following numbers are just examples and, ofc, would have to be tweaked. So, for example, when your orb is at 50/50, you are at 100% attack and 100% defense. The further you stray in any direction would change your stats a little bit. So if you were at 75/25 (the 75 being hatred) you would be at 150% attack and 50% defense. And 100/0 (again 100 being hatred) you would be at 200% attack and 0% defense.
This gives it a very high DPS capability, but only at the cost of being extremely fragile. At the same time, if properly timed, you could be ready for an attack, and not have the defensive debuff activated.
In addition to all these, you could have passives that improve the goods / negate the bads of each buff. For example, you could have passives like this:
"Give yourself over"
While at maximum hatred, you gain 25% chance to dodge any attack.
or
"Patience is a Virtue:
While at maximum discipline, you gain +25 to all resistances
Or something along those lines. There is a lot of room for some really cool effects if they take this route. Obviously, as said before, it would take some heavy tweaking to make sure it wasn't too overpowered, but I think it would be a very fun mechanic and very unique.
Thoughts?

Jackzor posted a message on Question on gameplay controlsIts how you described, but you only have 6 skills so they are only assigned to 1-4, although I think you could assign one to two different places if you wanted to use 5 for a skill instead of potions. IIRC you can bind your skills to whatever you like, so you could make it so that everything is bound to your mouse if you wanted.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion -
